1. daftpunkydavid says

the guy reportedly lives in NEW JERSEY! so why is he given such a prominent voice on a NEW YORK decision?

  2. chrissypoo says

“Marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors a relationship with God”

Does that mean he wants god to get him a beer, make him dinner and then have sex with him before he passes out?

  3. Andrew says

“Two men will never show a woman how to be a woman.”

And what does “be a woman” mean?

There are so many things wrong with this it’s not even worth fully deconstructing. This guy is an idiot.

  4. says

Funny, I have no idea who this is. I don’t think anyone else does, either.

Oh, he’s the helmet catch guy from the Super Bowl. Okay, besides that?

In other news Steve Young fully supports repealing prop 8 and is more popular and better looking and a Mormon, no less.

So David Tyree can suck it. Figuratively.

  5. Russell says

chrissypoo nails it. God (the husband) and man (the wife) are in a relationship that mirrors marriage (as it existed when the Bible was written). God owns us, he inflicts his issues upon us, we work like slaves, he makes all the decisions, he might decide to get rid of us and then where would we be, God forbid we might think for ourselves . . . it really makes a lot of sense. Sorry God, I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last social control mechanism in the universe.

  6. JakeSFExPat says

Thanks for the update, Joe B!! I had no idea Steve Young was a good guy on the Prop 8 issue. I like knowing when there are reasonable Mormons so I don’t have to always put the second “m” in parentheses.

  7. Paul says

Oh how cute. A has-been with an opinion on something he’s not smart enough to understand. Run along and play ball now. The adults are discussion legislation.

  8. disgusted gay american says

ahhh spoken like a Black man who’s never had to fight for HIS RIGHTS…he lives off the backs of those who fought long and hard, so he can have a nice life…what a prick he is…….he needs to LEARN his history.

  9. Brain says

So, they are now so desperate that they seek the auspices of some “sub-literate” fool who could at best boast about his abilities to catch a ball…bounce, bounce, bounce!

    Give me a break!

  10. Sean R says

I find, again, it’s the knowledge claims made by our opponents that is really bothersome because they are completely ignorant. Surely stating that you believe that truth isn’t subjective kinda shows that it *is* (philosophical/ anorak point!)
Again, the “why” of why a straight man should be so interested/ threatened by same-sex relationships comes back to men’s power over other men. So I feel the need to ask why Tyree is so insecure as a man that he needs to regress to a homophobic bully?
We’ll probably find out next week that he’s also a lesbian blogger too!

  11. TampaZeke says

I haven’t heard such doomsday, over the top statements since, well, since growing up in Mississippi listening to adults crying and wailing about the utter destruction of the country and all things holy that the upcoming Civil Rights Act of 1964 was going to bring.

    Ironic isn’t it?

  12. Paul R says

You know, I really think athletes should be responsible for all of our policymaking and resolve legislative debates with their words of infinite wisdom.

  13. Francis says

Does he have any idea what he’s talking about?

And it shows me how far we’ve progressed that Strahan and the NYG owner supporting marriage equality has gotten TONS more national attention than this has-been coming out against marriage equality. Things truly are starting to get better, finally.

  14. MacroT says

Oh boy, NOM has found a real winner this time. Tyree also claims, after years of alcohol and drug abuse during his playing days, he was possessed and began slithering off the couch like a snake, saying “I’m the devil”. You can’t make this stuff up.

  15. Bravo says

So he’s saying that christian men are in a gay relationship with God, since they all believe he’s male.

  16. alexInBoston says

Well a couple things, first off he is A “Former” NY Giant, secondly, he lives in NJ! So thirdly STFU asshat! All he really can do is read the cue cards!!

  17. adam says

David Tyree should duly note that the Bible he so adheres to is the same Bible that justifies slavery. Nuff said.

  18. adam says

If we allow blacks to marry whites, it goes against God’s word. It will change society as we know it.

  19. candideinncc says

And nobody knows God and what God thinks like a big, dumb ex-football jock.

  20. walter says

the man is a has been or actually a never was.
nom must be desperate to dig up this clown to record a message of support. bible allows for slaves stoning concubines polygamy and various other things so what. does it make it right. the bible is the largest fiction novel in the history of man. maybe time for it to go out of print.

  21. karin1492 says

Man, another reason to hate David Tyree other than his stupidly lucky helmet catch that helped the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.

  22. dc20008 says

Gay marriage “will” cause the downfall of civilization???

Would someone PLEASE clue this dumbass in–gays have been getting married for YEARS!

Please ask him how is his marriage is ALREADY degraded?????????????

  23. says

“Marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors a relationship with God…”

Oh shut this guy up! Dear God, what a true idiot. There are times when I have to shake my head repeatedly because of people like David Tyree and the sickness that inflicts them. His religion needs to be condemned.

  24. Craig says

First off, there is no such thing as “very unique.” Unique is one of a kind, something cannot be more one of a kind than something else. Since there are millions of married couples it is anything but unique.

Second, how do two atheist getting married reflect god?

Finally, in this sentence from a braised short rib recipe: “You allow all the flavors to marry while cooking on the stovetop or in the oven,” does the word “marry” mean between one woman and one man? No, “marry” already has different meanings without gays getting involved.

  25. Rowan says

Oh please of it was the other way round you would be kinda singing his praises ish though I know you tend to like your athletes white like Ben Cohen.

  26. Ealan74 says

Huh? How does marriage mirror our relationship with God (any more or less than our other relationships?)How does he know this anarchy is going to start? And seriously, does this idiot really think same sex marriage is going to start to blur right and wrong. Has he read a newspaper, seen a newscast or checked a news website oh in the last.. forever!! There are so many holes in thois guys logic, its beyond ridiculous!!

  27. mark says

Did you honestly think Maggie Gallagher Srivastav and NOM would be able to find anyone who could speak intelligently ?
This guy had to have been duped into doing this…He’s an idiot.

  28. Mel Smith says

Tyree is a total jerk with money. He spits on the history of the Civil Rights Movement, racism, etc…

How in the world can a person of color be so twisted like this?

Right now I hate that I even share the same skin color with him. ughhh…..

  29. Todd Andrew says

It boggles the mind that a black man can be so judgmental and deny a gay man or woman their right to marry. I wonder how Mr. “Full of himself” Tyree would see this if it were still illegal for a black man to marry a white woman. I am sure Mr. Tyree thought that inter-racial marriage being illegal was wrong, and yet he’s okay with gay marriage being wrong. What a double-standard spewing hypocrite. I don’t care how good of a football player the man is — He’s a jerk!

  30. Dave says

This guy just needs to get f&@cked. Hard. It’s obvious he spends too much of his time thinking about it.

  31. SeriouslySick says

I really like in a twisted way these retards trying desperately to form Natural Law agruments against gay marriage, they show zero understanding of the shortcomings of this purely subjective and morally bereft ethical system. The lack of understanding they show of the need for the rise of civil law in the first place has been their indoctrination from birth, so an idiot like this IS being honest.

However, playing with fire and calling yourself a firefighter has inevitable consequences that I don’t think our idiot Tyree has even begun to think through. I’d almost recommend he read Plato’s symposium, and at least look up the Wiki definition of Thomism, if only to understand it’s ethical shortcomings, but I’d rather watch him get hammered in public. He does, after all, deserve every bit of it.

  32. MichaelA says

    What a moron.

Anyways @ JOE B: Steve Youngs wife was the one against Prop 8. Steve Young never publically revealed HIS feelings on that issue.

Hes also mormon and deeply religious… so sadly you have to do the math.Pretty sure that means that his wife is gay friendly but Steve …. not so much.

  33. Joe H says

Wow, this is a shocker. An African American heterosexual male openly and comfortably bashing gays, and speaking out against our rights? Let’s hope Tracy Morgan, Kobe Bryant, 50 Cent, Isaiah Washington, Tim Hardaway, Allen Iverson, Larry Johnson, or the Reverend Fill N. Blank don’t get any ideas…

  34. Gus says

Warning to Str8 Women. This guy believes in a family structure with the man playing the ‘god’ part.

  35. Tyron says

Always find it amusing how these former crack and alcohol addicts suddenly “find God” and feel it is their responsibility to tell the rest of the world how to live their lives.

Since his pro-football career is no more he seems to have found his position in life as shilling for groups like NOM – seems like maybe he took one too many hits to the head.

But honestly he’ll have no impact on anyone who hasn’t already made up their mind to support inequality – former athletes rarely impact anything of importance.

  36. Edd says

We now have an opportunity to get the NFL’s official stance on this issue. Did NOM get permission to use NFL footage for this interview? If not, will they force NOM to remove it? Does anyone have any contacts at the NFL to find out?

  37. PDX Guy says

There is a “contact us” link on I notified them of the use of their footage. Lets see what happens. I don’t think they would have given permission to use it.

  38. vinebeau says

can someone please remind all black bigots, that once upon a time in the not so distant past, they had no rights, that white america feared them, and look today they are a vital and important part of the american fabric

  39. Mt says

Good for him for sticking up for what is right. I am from Tn and I hope this abomination doesn’t get legalized here. Most gay people I know come from broken homes or were molested. I think it is a mental disorder and can be reversed. Sorry folks.., but I am right.., there is absolutly no sense in acting this way.
