Comic Book Imagines World Without AIDS
Comic book writer Sam Humphries, known for his work on the CBGB comic book, and illustrator Steven Sanders, who has worked on Uncanny X-Men, recently teamed up for what critics are calling a "splendidly perverse" sci-fi one-shot, Our Love Is Real.
Here's a summation of this limited edition funny book:
FIVE YEARS AFTER THE AIDS VACCINE… Plantsexuals riot in the streets for equal rights. Humans fall in love with dogs. And crystals are more than just jewelry.A chance encounter on the job changes a riot cop’s life forever as he finds himself caught in a bizarre love triangle that blurs romance, crime, and lust beyond recognition.
While social conservatives will no doubt have a kanipshin conniption over the book, fan boys and girls are already clamoring for Our Love Is Real.
If you're among them, you had better act fast: Humphries and Sanders are only printing 300 copies, which are being sold at select stores across the nation. There will, however, also be a digital edition.
I've included the complete list of stores that are carrying Our Love Is Real, AFTER THE JUMP...

"Conniption," Andrew. "Kanipshin" is a knish in a tizzy. Come to think of it, never mind.

For realz. It's conniption. Get thee a dictionary!

Based on the brief summary, I don't know why conservatives would have a conniption. They would see this as prediction instead of fiction.

The conservative argument has been that if marriage equality happens, it will lead to "man on dog" sex. Now we're giving them that? Really?? This is news? This is positive for our community? Pathetic.

Is "vegisexual" a person who has sex with vegetables? I would never date broccoli. A cucumber maybe.

I am not getting the "good" in this from this article.
Is it supposed to be edgy to give enemy memes voice?

I retract my earlier statement.
After reading Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston's review of the material, I'm more than willing to give it the benefit of doubt.

I can't help but feel that this is exactly what the conservatives' imagine will happen if gay marriage is legalized... and in the right hands, this could be glaring satire; but to be honest, with how conservative the comic book/video game crowd can be, I have my reservations. I guess time will tell.

Got a copy from Meltdown today (thanks for including the list of retailers!). It's great! Succinct, insightful and subversive, but still a comic book at heart. Thanks for posting about this.
