James Franco Condemns 'Gay Rapist' Item Run by 'Petty Scumbags'

In a new Playboy interview, James Franco comments on a blind item run by the NY Post about an actor who had assaulted and raped his boyfriend. Through an online poll, Gawker connected Franco to the item.

Franco3 Franco rips Gawker's refusals to remove the post:

One blog thread that he can't abide, though, is the one falsely connecting him with the infamous Gay Rapist blind item that appeared in the New York Post in 2008.

While Franco quickly debunked speculation that he was the anonymous perpetrator -- the alleged victim himself insisted that he didn't know him -- it didn't stop blogs from running the story -- and worse.

"Then Gawker picked that up and did this 'Gay Rapist' story that was so f*cking offensive because I have friends who have been raped," he remembers. "They did a very classy online reader's poll asking which actor who had a big movie out that summer had beaten up and raped his boyfriend and then paid him off so it wouldn't go to court... My lawyer called them and said that it was completely untrue and to take it down. They said, 'Well, we're just reporting what the New York Post told us. If James wants to make a comment on our blog, we're happy to report it.' It was a choice. Either let this thing build and become bigger and bigger, or just let it go and let them be the petty scumbags that they are."

  1. Keep in mind that the New York Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Nuff said.

  2. It's really sad that the reporting of news no longer actually involves fact-checking, or, well, actual news for that matter.

  3. Terrible, but nothing new for NYP.
By the way, that is one hot pic of James.

  4. Gawker is run by assholes. And CLEARLY the blind item was about Will Smith. *twirl*

  5. Hard for me to feel bad for this guy when he continues to deny being gay, while hitting on every young dude within a 100 miles of wherever he is at the moment. Either tell the truth, or be discrete.

  6. who would believe anything that was published by murdock? the truth has no part in anything his "news" put out. in fact the truth would be the last thing you would in one of his outlets. somebody shouls investigate and see if what went on in england is happening here. wouldn't put it past faux news.

  7. So SECRETAGENTMAN, people who keep their personal lives personal deserve to be falsely accused of RAPE?! WOW what standards you live by!

  8. The Post isn't the one who connected Franco to the story, that was Gawker. Which most assuredly is not owned by Rupert Murdoch, nor do they share any political sympathies with him.

Perhaps the Post shouldn't have run the blind item. But to me, the Gawker poll is the more offensive part of the story.

  9. This was a blind item picked up by many sites where commenters speculated as to the identity of the person in the item. Based on the clue that it was a hunk in a summer movie at the time (2008), Franco was a popular guess on many different sites (along with Christian Bale, Vin Diesel, Will Smith and Ed Norton). Gawker did not specifically say it was James Franco or connect only him to the blind item. Instead of being outraged that people guessed it was him, shouldn't he be outraged at the person that actually committed the rape, especially since he knows rape victims and the victim in the blind wound up in the hospital due to the attack?

  10. Ruddigore, you answered you're own question. Wouldn't you be upset if you were being labeled a rapist, especially if you've had friends that were raped? And this is an alleged rape, not even an actual confirmed reported rape. What's wrong with you?

  11. Well it's true James Franco has a BF - supposedly the same one he's had since High School ... but I thought that orginal post was supposed to be about Will Smith

  12. @SECRETAGENTMAN I don't believe he's ever denied being gay. If anything, he's continuously embraced the speculation.

I really don't know if he's straight or not. But if he is either gay or bisexual, he's definitely no closeted hypocrite.
