AFA’s Bryan Fischer Names NJ Governor Chris Christie First Member of ‘American Association of Religious Bigots’ (AARB)

Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association has come up with a new way to play up the false meme of Christian victimization so popular with anti-gay hate groups these days.

FischerHe's launching "the American Association of Religious Bigots, the AARB for short," Right Wing Watch reports:

The AARB will consist of individuals and groups in America who demonstrate that they are Christophobic bigots and hatemongers by their opposition to the free exercise of religion, speech, press or association for followers of Christianity, a religion the Founders were specifically protecting by the First Amendment.

Fischer's inaugural attacker of Christians is NJ Governor Chris Christie for saying he found Union High school teacher Viki Knox's anti-gay Facebook remarks "disturbing". Writes Fischer:

Our charter member is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who yesterday publicly criticized a New Jersey teacher who criticized her public school’s promotion of sexually aberrant behavior. She exercised both her freedom of religion and speech by posting her comments on her own Facebook page.

This Christian teacher expressed her opposition to the school’s celebration of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender history by correctly labeling such behaviors as “perverted.” That may sound harsh, but consider the dictionary definition of “perverted:” “Characterized by sexually abnormal and unacceptable practices or tendencies.” So her assessment is not harsh, it’s just true.

No doubt Fischer saw NOM's new Marriage Anti-Defamation Alliance and figured he would try the same thing. Those poor oppressed Christianists.

This idiot does not understand that the protections are for ALL religions (including athiest)to practice freely without imposing any one religion on one another. He is free to be Christian and straightly married and no one is imposing gay marriage on anyone. He does not have to pariticipate in what he deems sinful, though his actions are certainly sinful (and bigoted). Just don’t try to force the entire population of the US to be Christian and straight through legislature, which is AGAINST the First Amendment.

Brian Fischer and the other “christian” nutjobs again show their inherent over-dependence on an irrelevant “authority” by citing a dictionary definition. Here’s what dictionary.com says:

    Word Origin & History

    perversion
late 14c., “action of turning aside from truth, corruption, distortion” (originally of religious beliefs), from pervert (v.). Psychological sense of “disorder of sexual behavior in which satisfaction is sought through channels other than those of normal heterosexual intercourse”
is from 1892, originally including homosexuality.
“Perversions are defined as unnatural acts, acts contrary to nature, bestial, abominable, and detestable. Such laws are interpretable only in accordance with the ancient tradition of the English common law which … is committed to the doctrine that no sexual activity is justifiable unless its objective is procreation.” [A.C. Kinsey, et.al., “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male,” 1948]

Now, of course, Fischer assumes the unquestioned moral authority of cultural history and linguistic definitions to promote bigotry and hatred while, at the same time, playing the victim card. For these people custom and tradition simply cannot be wrong, despite such historical reversals as racism, subjugation of females, the notable historical dominance of polytheism over monotheism, and the indisputable “tradition” of widespread illiteracy. Fischer is a corndog in the wide world of comestibles; acceptable in some quarters, risible in most.

“…Christianity, a religion the Founders were specifically protecting by the First Amendment.”

Where do these Evangelical A$$ hats get their history from? That’s not what I leaned in school some 35 years ago. And I never missed a day of history class.

Wait, is this Towleroad or The Onion? Hey Mr. Fischer, look up “irony” in the dictionary. It should explain this whole AARB thing for you.

But given how unlikely it is that you understand the concept of irony, how else can we explain this to your simple mind? You know those horror movies where the killer is calling you from INSIDE THE HOUSE? It’s kind of like that too. The insane clown bigots are calling other people bigots from inside their fake churches.

Good luck with your mental health, it must be tough to let that much hatred fester day after day. May your brain explode as soon as gay marriage is legalized in another country and/or state.

As BOSTON BLOKE pointed out, Chris Christie is hardly an ally of Gay Rights. Let’s hope that as these total nutjobs continue to do litmus tests of “purity” more and more of the practical, realistic conservatives will be (oh the irony) outed and will have to find a new base. We should welcome them with open arms, but also keep our eyes open.

Getting an “award” from a certified hate group is something of a badge of honor. Apparently AFA is unaware of the irony–just add one more thing to their “unaware” list. Perhaps an alliance with Fred Phelps will help their cred.
