First Lady Of Rhode Island To Officiate Civil Union Ceremony

State-flag-rhode-islandCongrats to gay couple Ron Margolin and Lynn McKinney! They've been together more than three decades, and on November 5th, Stephanie Chafee, Rhode Island's First Lady, will officiate at their civil union ceremony in Newport.

According to ABC6:

Lynn McKinney and Ron Margolin first asked Gov. Lincoln Chafee to officiate at their Nov. 5 ceremony in Newport, but he plans to be in Israel for an economic development trip.

... McKinney says the Chafees are long-time advocates for the gay and lesbian community. Stephanie Chafee was 1 of the first nurses in Rhode Island to work with AIDS patients.

RI's Governor Lincoln Chafee has expressed support for marriage equality before, but has been unable to persuade his state's more socially conservative senate.

  1. By "socially conservative Senate", you meant "Democrat-dominated" Senate, right?

  2. @Lincolnlounger: You're right, the Senate was dominated by Democrats, and they failed to pass an equality bill. They suck. But you forgot to mention how many Republicans were even willing to vote for 2nd class civil unions? I'm sure that was an oversight, and you'll be touting the stellar Republican gay rights record any moment now . . . waiting . . . Oh, and what party did supporter Lincoln Chafee leave? Don't forget that, either.
