Scott Lively, Activist With Links To Uganda Anti-Gay Violence, Receives "American Truth Teller" Award

ScottLivelyThis is a proud day for anti-gay activist Scott Lively, because despite the best efforts of the "lavender Marxists" (that's us, probably) this evening he'll assume the stage at the Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, IL, and receive the "American Truth Teller Award" for his tireless efforts to combat the greatest "existential threat to Christian civilization around the world." (That's us, too.)

The American Truth Teller Award is presented by Americans For the Truth About Homosexuality. There's been some kerfuffle between the Gay Liberation Network and AFTAH, as it's called, because while AFTAH plainly thinks Scott Lively's a fabulous dude, the GLN thinks he's some kind of monster. Why?

Well, according to them:

Scott Lively journeyed to Uganda in 2009 with other U.S. evangelical gay bashers to stage a "Seminar on Exposing the Homosexual Agenda" even though homosexuality was already illegal in that nation. Lively helped stoke anti-gay animus by playing the "child molestation" card, asserting that gays are "looking for other people to prey upon, and that when they see someone from a broken home, it's like they have a flashing neon sign over their head ... male homosexuality has not traditionally been adult to adult, it's been adult to teenager. ... The gay movement is an evil institution."

It was following Lively's "seminar" that legislation was introduced into the Ugandan parliament that would impose the death penalty for so-called "aggravated homosexuality." All gay meetings would be banned under this draconian measure, and heterosexuals could be jailed as well for any advocacy of homosexuality or defense of gay people. Lively has supported this further criminalizing of homosexuality, even as some evangelicals like Rick Warren have distanced themselves from it. (Lively advised against death sentences for Ugandan gays, but only because it might result in "public sympathy" for them; he prefers forced "rehabilitation.")

Now, that might not be entirely fair. According to Lively:

I do not support capital punishment for any sex crimes, let alone simple homosexuality, which I view as a treatable behavioral disorder ...

Fact is, Lively's such a bleeding heart humanitarian that he doesn't even want jail time for homosexuality. Nope! Instead, he supports state-mandated reeducation camps!

During my 2009 trip I also addressed members of the Ugandan Parliament in their national assembly hall.  My advice to the MPs regarding the law they were contemplating but had not yet drafted was to focus on rehabilitation of homosexuals ... I urged them to become the first government in the world to develop a state-sponsored recovery system for homosexuality ...

Pretty zany, coming from somebody who likes to call his opponents Stalinists.

Anyway, the GLN's protesting Scott Lively's awards ceremony tonight. Head over here for the deets.

  2. What a Nazi little f**ker.......

So who carried his bags to Uganda ?

  3. So a fringe Christian is getting his radical anti-gay bigotry recognized and rewarded by an equally fringe, bigoted, hate-group. Are we shocked?

How relevant is the award in this situation? It's like being alarmed that the KKK decided to award the "Pioneering Vision" award to it's best white supremacist.

I only care about bigots being validated and recognized by what should be neutral or mainstream or pro-gay agencies. Bigots being applauded by bigots is just masturbatory.

  4. Well, what’s strange about that? Actually it’s good news because choosing such a wacko probes beyond doubt what kind of people are them all.
I would be worried if they choose decent, intelligent people for the award and then they accept it.

  5. Purely a professional homophobe, Scott Lively is pathologically obsessed with homosexually, his only goal is to demonize LGBT people here and in Uganda. I have watched videos of this mad man, he is very dangerous and has nothing to contribute to the world except hate.

Scott Lively owes an apology to the LGBT community here and in Uganda for vilifying Gay people with his attempts at rewriting history in the book, The Pink Swastika, which has been discredited by academia as bunk revisionist history.

Scott Lively's interest in Uganda also has a financial interest. The persecution or homosexuals in Uganda will open the door for Scott Lively to setup reparation clinics as convicted homosexuals are given the choice of expensive reparation clinics of prison, putting millions of dollars in Lively's pocket.

The only truth here, Scott Lively’s pathological obsession with homosexuality is a mask of his internalized shame, low-self esteem and a mask for his repressed homosexuality. This man is a sick and disturbed, a vile lower life form of a human being.

  6. He and Andrew Shirvell would make a cute couple.

  7. Oliver:

Agreed. Shirvell can be the fusty Felix Ungar type; Lively can sloth around in his underwear watching football. Itll be adorable.

  8. What better way to avoid feeling guilty than to give yourself a merit badge.

  9. He's monstrous. Absolutely monstrous.

  10. Actually, GLN was being entirely accurate. Lively wrote an open letter to the Ugandan Parliament in which he urged deletion of the death penalty on public relations grounds. He supports prison terms for gays, including terms up to life sentences. In Uganda, a long prison sentence is a death sentence.

He also provided other proposed drafting revisions, which makes him an active participant in the legislative process.

  11. These kinds of people make we wish I actually believed in Christian Hell. I could die happy thinking of the look on his face when he finds out where he ended up. What a sad, sick, perverted individual.

  12. You are right on the money, Ronsfo.

Like all religiphobes, they create the sin or the "sickness", and then come along with the "cure", for a fee, of course.

Typical of snake-oil hawkers. Same contents.

    Just a different shaped/colored bottle.

  13. Peter LaBarbera and Scott Lively two straight men who are obsessed with homosexuality; think it's a terrible, terrible thing; and have made careers centered around homosexuality. Tonight they are celebrating their extraordinarily curious common interest.

For what it's worth, I think LaBarbera is harmless (if consistently while clownishly offensive), but Lively -- who has connections to policymakers in a backward, impoverished nation vulnerable to scapegoating -- is not. Lively truly is a monster, and wants to see gay people punished for being gay.

  14. WOW! An award ive never heard of, from a school i've never heard of, in a town i've never heard of. Who needs an Oscar, Nobel or Grammy when you can win an "American Truth Teller Award"! Nothing says PRESTIGE like that.

  15. We ran Scott Lively out of Oregon years ago.

  16. It's time we stop letting these heterosupremacist tyrannical theocRAT corporate cults get away with this gay bashing violence inciting propaganda. There is a global revolution against corporate dictatorships happening right now. Let's make sure the LGBT Declaration of Independence is written because Occupy Wall Street thinks our only problem is employment discrimination.

Write the declaration here where we are also making plans to network an LGBT Occupy delegation to the Occupy National Convention next July 4th.

We are also networking with Occupy protests here
