Family Research Council Commends Deadbeat Dad On Family Values

399px-Rep_Joe_WalshWhat's it mean to be "pro-family"? Do you know? At this point, does anyone?

Consider: Thursday, the Family Research Council fell all over itself in praise of Congressman Joe Walsh (R., IL) -- "the only Illinois congressman to be named a 'True Blue' member of Congress for 'unwavering support of the family,'" according to The Chicago Sun-Times. "Unwavering support of the family," in this case, means yanking money from family planning services -- thereby shrinking the odds that impregnated teens will ever raise children within a traditional family environment -- and denying the rights of LGBT's to form any kinds of families at all.

Said Tony Perkins, the Family Research Council's president:

We thank Congressman Walsh, who has voted consistently to defend faith, family and freedom ... Congressman Walsh and other "True Blue Members" have voted to repeal Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, end government funding for abortion within the health care law, uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, and continue support for school choice. I applaud their commitment to uphold the institutions of marriage and family.

Lovely! Or it might be, if only Joe Walsh wasn't the most famous deadbeat dad in America. When he's not busy adjudicating what constitutes a family, Joe's busy neglecting his own. According to his ex, he owes $100,000 in child support. Joe says this is bogus, because he shouldn't have had to pay child support during his leaner years.

  1. It’s gotten fairly easy to get to the heart of the truth with today’s GOP and their supporters. What ever they say about themselves, the opposite is true. Up is down, wrong is right and a man who abandon and impoverished his family is an upstanding family man with adorable family values. When I see the “R” after the name I tune out.

  2. actually the figures i've seen elsewhere put it around $117,000 for a total of 5 yrs non payment for 3 kids

so that comes to $23,400 a year / 1950 a month / per kid $650 per kid per month

That isn't much at all to cover rent, food, medical, schooling, clothes, etc

Anyway; his own repub primary challanger is hitting him over the head with it. LOL schadenfreude watching repubs eat each other

  3. Family Research Council, Joe Walsh -- Tru AmeriKKKans.

You know this one is just too easy to mock. It actually mocks itself. Congratulations to all parties involved for making it easy and obvious. No one even has to work to find the ridiculousness and idiocy of this one.

  5. He wasn't supporting the kids he had with his first wife because he had to support the kids he had with his second wife. Typical Republican family values. See under Newt Gingrich in the dictionary.

  6. To many conservatives, "traditional family values" mean heterosexual marriages involving husbands cheating on their wives with hookers and mistresses ... often ending in divorce, deadbeat dads refusing to provide child support, and unplanned pregnancies by unwed, teenaged girls.

  7. He meets all their qualifications -- neatly dressed, shiny shoes and appropriate length hair. An empty suit. Just what Republican voters go for.

  9. This article isn't exactly true, and isn't the whole truth. FRC did not single out Joe Walsh for an award. They made a scorecard for representatives, and the 46 representatives who voted with FRC on ten out of the ten issues got the "award." Yes, Walsh was the only one in Illinois to vote 100%, but that's not exactly "falling all over themselves" to report that. They make a scorecard every year, and with that many representatives getting 100% I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of sleazebags among them, they're congresspeople after all.

It's a voting record scorecard, not a character scorecard.
