2012 Election | Bob Vander Plaats | Gay Marriage | Newt Gingrich

Iowa's Leading Anti-Gay Activist Bob Vander Plaats Forgives Thrice-Married Adulterer Newt Gingrich: VIDEO

Vdp

Bob Vander Plaats, head of Iowa anti-gay group The Family Leader, which was instrumental in the ousting of three judges who legalized marriage equality in the state and who has made candidates sign a "marriage vow", is willing to forgive thrice-married adulterer Newt Gingrich for his infidelities, Think Progress LGBT reports.

They add:

Last July, Iowa’s FAMiLY Leader unveiled “The Marriage Vow: A Declaration of Dependence upon MARRIAGE and FAMILY,” a 14 bullet pledge presidential candidates will have to sign to secure any “future endorsement” from the organization and its influential leader, Bob Vander Plaats. The document asked candidates to vow “personal fidelity to my spouse,” claimed that same-sex marriage undermines the family, and contained a bizarre reference to slavery.

Said Vander Plaats of Gingrich in an MSNBC appearance this morning: "...we also realize that the cornerstone at the hart of our faith is a thing called forgiveness. We all fall short, but we want to know, is he truly repentful, is he learned, is he ready to move on, is he more mature? And I believe he’s addressed this in a lot of situations and I think he will again on Saturday."

  1. The convenient thing about Christianity is that it can be used to support any expediency.

The only thing I regret about living in the real world is not having a moral system I can use to justify whatever I want do think or do.

  2. As long a it's not gay, it will be accepted by this hypocrite who opts to forgive the other hypocrite Gingrich. They are both disgusting excuses for human beings. As for being repentant and willing to move on, that's Newt's problem, he is always willing to move on to another woman after having literally and figuratively screwed her predecessor. His new found Catholicism is probably harder for Vander Platt to accept than his being a serial adulterer.

  3. VPL isn't that influential. The voters still haven't forgiven Newt, even if VPL has.

  4. This is, in part, why anti-gay sentiment is so very much like racism. In the Vander Plaats person's mind, Gingrich is "one of us," not "the other." That was the white-vs.-black mentality of racists yesterday, as it continues today. Gingrich can be literally excused from a sin on the order of theft or murder because he's "part of the group." Anti-gay sentiment is hateful, exclusionary, Nazi ideology which proposes that the "Aryans," the "perfect families," can be allowed all rights and privileges, and that all deviation from their model must be "stamped out" or "annihilated." It is impossible to speak of anti-gay sentiment without using terms which the anti-gay will scream about, because what the anti-gay do is such an execrable and repetitive act of rape, in social terms.

  5. Good lord (pardon the expression). The "proper" Christian-approved remedy for infidelity is reconciliation, not "moving on" to a new spouse.

  6. And yet according to the buy-bull, Gingrich qualifies as an adulterer for being remarried. But apparently Vanderpander will overlook that as long as he's remarried to a woman instead of a man.

  9. Not an ounce of good character, morality, maturity, or decency in either one, gingich or plaats.

  10. Newt has taken virtually every position possible on every issue - just depends on who he's talking to and what they want to hear at the moment. These wacko "family values" jerks don't care about marital fidelity they only want to deny gay people the right to marry. Couple of divorces - no big deal. Cheat on you wife (or your first two wives) - no big deal. Have an affair with a staff employee - no big deal. They don't care about Newt's history - they simply want to get rid of Obama no matter what and make sure gay people aren't allowed to marry. They are all hypocrites .
