DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Calls Santorum's Anti-Gay Marriage Plan 'Inappropriate and Unacceptable': VIDEO

Speaking off the cuff to a YouTuber with a camera, Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz offers her thoughts about the Iowa caucuses and Rick Santorum's plans to invalidate same-sex marriage.

Says Wasserman Schultz of Santorum's plans for a federal marriage amendment: "That would be un-American, un-Democratic and entirely inappropriate and unacceptable."

  1. And, of course, the NOMbies stole the video and reposted it without attribution.

  2. Did we expect her to say anything else? Democrats primarily support SSM, while Republicans oppose it. But we already knew this, so the reason this is news is because....???

  4. NOM and other opponents of our marriages keep saying "let the people vote" but at the same time support a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, which (according to Rick Santorum) would not only invalidate existing marriages, but that "the people" would not be able to vote on. Constitutional amendments are proposed by Congress, and if passed by a 2/3 majority, must be ratified by 3/4 of the state legislatures. And guess what? There is no direct vote by "the people" at any stage of this process, and at the end, "the people" of any state would not be ALLOWED to have same-sex marriage, whether by judicial process, by legislative action, or by any direct vote of THE PEOPLE. (BTW NOM scrubbed a similar comment by "Kieran" from their own blog, but not until after one of their regulars had already seen and replied to it: http://www.nomblog.com/17500/#comments)

  5. "Inappropriate and unacceptable." That's the best she can do? Underwhelmed. When politicians can communicate in plain, strong language, they get better results, IMO. She speaks like a policy wonk/corporate PR person. Zzzzzzz...

  6. Mickle, I thought it was pretty unequivocal, and I say good for her. I don't see anything wrong with how she said it.
