Catholic Church Castrated Boys for Homosexuality: Paper

Rotterdam-based newspaper NRC Handelsblad has discovered proof of at least one castration that was performed on a boy under Catholic church care in the 1950s to 'cure' his homosexual feelings, Dutch News reports:

PopeBut there are indications at least 10 other boys were also castrated, the paper said. The claims were not included in the Deetman report on sexual abuse within the Catholic church published at the end of last year.

The paper says the one confirmed case concerned a boy - Henk Heithuis - who reported being sexually abused by priests to the police in 1956. After giving evidence, he was placed in a Catholic-run psychiatric institution where he was then castrated because of his 'homosexual behaviour'.

The castrations were not included in the Deetman report because 'there were few leads for further research'.

The Deetman committee was set up by the church itself in 2010 after the sexual abuse scandal broke. It reported in December having identified some 800 priests and monks who abused children in their care between 1945 and 1985.

Castration was also used "as a means of punishing those who blew the whistle on abusers" according to the paper.

Church officials were aware of what was happening but did nothing. Other revelations excluded from the Deetman report include the Catholic people's party KVP's attempts to have sentences dropped against priests charged with abusing children in that late 50's.

  1. Are you trying to tell us the Catholic Church is evil? Next thing you're going to report is it's made up of nearly 80% of closet cases or even the Pope himself is a queer. In other words, f*ck them.

  2. and we thought the church banned & prohibited castrati in 1878!!!!

  3. Did the catholic church physically perform these castrations themselves or did the guy in the sky do them?

  4. Sexual abuse and rape by Priest is one thing. Castration as punishment is quite another.

The notion that Priests accepted and approved of castration of young boys as punishment is stunning.

  6. I can only hope this report of discovery (with valid proof) goes "viral"...
The evil & cloaked actions of the RCC must be exposed. SRSLY!!!

We, as gay men, are owed a "Day of Reckoning".

  7. This is not amazing.

However, what is amazing is that not one Catholic bishop, archbishop, or cardinal is sitting in a jail cell.

    Somewhere, anywhere.

Not a single member of the Catholic hierarchy has been held criminally liable for their actions of abetting these crimes.

  8. ATROCITIES. Crimes against humanity.

  9. From the same folks who brought us the Inquisition. While I'm horrified to read that this happened, I'm hardly surprised. The Church continues to be the best argument against itself. If I believed in hell, I'd be praying for them to all go there.

  10. Disgusting. As I've written here again and again: The Catholic Church will destroy it itself.

  11. There is no end to the evil perpetrated by this pedophile cult.

  12. Its about time this evil organisation was closed down, its wealth used to help the poor, and its buildings used to house the homeless.

  13. If people loved their faith more than tyheir church, they would drive this gross, disgusting church from our society, and drum its pope and gross priesthood out of town . . . so to speak. I do not care what experience people have had with their religion, it is disgusting toi me that anyone would support this church. It seems people are more tolerant and forgiving of the crimes commited by the Catholic church than those commited by individuals.

But the crimes of a church, considering what they are supposed to represent, are far greater, and sould not be tolerated.

  14. Obviously if this is true it is disgusting, and all those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But to defame over a billion Catholics as a whole(which I and every member of my family happen to be) Or to impugn the thousands of good and decent priests over this is just wrong! I will wait for actual evidence and victims to come forward before making any rash judgements on this story. However I will say again if it is true, then those responsible should be severely punished, and I would even say that the Holy Father himself should issue a public apology!

  15. Pedophiles

    Posted by: Ton | Mar 19, 2012 11:24:34 AM

  16. A pedophile priest rapes a boy and the boy is the one to have his nuts chopped off? How much more outrageous can these people get? This "church" is nothing more than an excuse for twisted old white men to exact violence and corruption on the rest of society, all in the name of morality. This institution must be ELIMINATED, their perpetrators brought to justice, and their supporters and accomplices thwarted. We demand to see the Church pay for its crimes against humanity.

No wonder the Pope rides around in a bulletproof vehicle. Just saying.

  17. Evil, but not unusual in that period of time.

The RC church needs to come clean once and for all, as do other religions and institutions/organizations. Society needs to face up to the fact there's a significant problem with a sizable minority of adults who are in charge of caring for children and young adults. Sad, but true. How many more cases of teachers and child care workers do we need to hear about? Or the Rabbi's who s*ck on a baby's penis during barbaric circumcision rites? One rabbi recently gave the baby herpes and the infant died!

Remove their tax-free status. The whole thing about them [religions] and many other institutions being 'non-profit' is complete BS.

  18. As Christopher Hitchens reminded us:

"Religion now comes to us in this smiling-face, ingratiating way, because it’s had to give so much ground, and because we know so much more. But you’ve no right to forget the way it behaved when it was strong, and when it really did believe that it had God on its side."

There are enough books documenting the atrocities of Christians in general, and the Catholic Church in particular, to fill entire libraries. Christianity should be considered for what it is: a messianic doomsday cult based on Bronze Age myths. And make no mistake, even today, by definition, it is the exact same cult— whose objective is to take over the world and destroy it in order to bring back Christ. And the most frightening thing is that these days it would be almost impossible for a non-Christian, yet alone atheist, to be elected president in the US.

I highly recommend watching this debate if you still support the Catholic Church, after watching the debate, most in the audience changed their minds:

Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry vs The Catholics

  19. @Pedro: If you give money to the Church, you are complicit. Your faith in the institution gives them the power to avoid accountability. Even now, you bring out the old trope of "well, not ALL Catholics are evil." That may be true, but as long as you put yourself under that banner, as long as you don't FORCE reform in your own faith, then you let them get away with these crimes.

As for an apology, it's irrelevant. The world doesn't need some withered old man to say "my bad" and shrug his shoulders. What the world needs is to be free from the superstition, ignorance, and fear that enslaves weak minds under the control of these corrupt, self-appointed arbiters of morality. What the world needs is to not have an institution so powerful that they can get away with decades of child rape, forced castration, political blackmail, and tax-exempt status.

You talk as if there are all these gentle, loving Catholics out there who disagree with the Vatican's tactics and are horrified by the atrocities that were committed under their watch. Well, if that's the case, then why do they all continue to remain silent and cowed under the leadership of these immoral men? By your own beliefs, it is a betrayal of your own faith to continue to be led by these bigots and criminals.

  20. Religious Liberty. Come on people. Religious Liberty. We have no right to tell them how to run their church or stop them from educating all of us on the compassion of their teachings. These are the values which should be the basis of our laws, isn't that right, Cardinal Dolan?

    Posted by: RWG | Mar 19, 2012 11:50:18 AM

  21. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. If those damn kids weren't so seductive, priests wouldn't be tempted. Of course you cut the balls off the nasty little temptors. Makes sense to me. Just like the Wisconsin representative who recently stated that women in abusive relationships, rather than seek divorce, should just try harder at remembering the good things about the relationship and what brought the couple together. Because if she was just nicer to her abuser, he wouldn't have to smack her around so much.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Sigh.

  22. @Pedro

Well said. According to the article, the Deetman committee is scheduled
to be questioned next week with a full parliamentary investigation.

It is the hierachy of church officials that need to be exposed and be held
accountable for crimes against humanity for all their faithful followers
(as devote believers in Christ's ministry) to see and address
with FULL reprimand & just punishment!

Gay people deserve more than an apology from the "old boys club",
including the "supreme commander" in Rome!

  23. Forget Kony 2012. How's about Pope-y 2012?

Posted by: Andalusian Dog | Mar 19, 2012 12:08:54 PM

  24. Pedro, I have no doubt there are many "good" Catholics. But what those good Catholics should NEVER forget is the DECADES (if not far longer) the Church spent protecting pedophiles, hiding their crimes, preventing prosecution, and protecting their ASSETS instead their faithful parishioners. Good lord, in Ireland and probably other places as well Catholic orphanages were treated as kiddie brothels, target galleries for pedophiles shooting fish in a barrel!

And even now instead of accepting responsibility for their actions the church has started to fight AGAINST responsibility for their crimes! Cardinal Dolan(?) recently said he REGRETS apologizing for the crimes that happened in Boston! They're fighting AGAINST raising the statute of limitations for sex crimes against children!

If the "good" faithful parishioners of the Catholic Church want to save it they need to stop protecting it, because it sure as h*ll never protected YOU!

  25. all "good" Catholics need to STOP GIVING MONEY TO THE CHURCH

by all means, folks, keep attending every sunday. but don't put a CENT in that collection plate. instead, leave a note or a letter explaining WHY you're no longer giving them money.

anything less is complicity in this ongoing affront to human decency.
