Daniel Zamudio, Gay Chilean Man Beaten by Neo-Nazis, Dies

Daniel Zamudio, a gay Chilean man who was beaten, stabbed, burned, and branded with a Swastika by a gang of neo-Nazis earlier this month and had been clinging to life in a hospital, was pronounced dead earlier this evening.

"Doctors performed a test this afternoon that confirmed cerebral failure and soon after, Zamudio died," Americas South and North reports.

The Chilean LGBT rights group MOVILH tweeted: "Daniel Zamudio died. Strength to your family. You will be remembered. Your passage was not in vain."

  1. No, he will not be forgotten, nor will all of those who have been victims of hate.

  2. Goddamnit. He was cute, too. The only upside to this development is that now prosecutors can charge them with murder. I hope they have the death penalty in Chile for hate crimes.

  6. This is a heart breaker. I have long since decided to believe that there is a Larger Life to which we return. He is there in comfort, for both of us. The picture here is lovely, unforgettable.

  11. This man shouldn't have died like this ... We have to keep working to prevent these deaths. We must educate and elect leaders who will take a stance against hatred and homophobia.

  12. RIP, Daniel, and may your family and friends find comfort in one another. Whatever comes after this life, may you find comfort, peace, and love there, where your suffering is forgotten, and your tears dried.

  15. I'm straight but I'm equally outraged with what happened to this young man. What I've learned from the early days of my life was to LOVE people regardless of sex, origin, color etc. In a world where Neo-nazi bastards are allowed to form "political parties" and KKK call themselves a "religion", hatred will never cease.
RIP baby boy, may you be the last onexoxoxo

  17. Just horrible. My heart cries for this young man and his family.

That loving someone of the same gender somehow justifies this kind of evil hatred for these scumbags, is beyond mind-blowing. May they die in pain. Slowly.

    RIP, Daniel xXx

  20. I am so sad over this I am crying now. He looks like a sweet angel, who would want to take this life away like this? Nobody deserves this. I am so sorry for this happening, it reflects poorly on humanity. i hope the people who did this recieve the punishment they deserve.

There is no death penalty in Chile.

The judicial system will try these repellent animals and, hopefully, convict and sentence them to spend the rest of their miserable, worthless lives behind bars.

Chilean President Piñera is currently at the Nuclear Security conference in Seoul and has released a statement announcing Daniel's murder will not "go unpunished". There is national outrage over this.

The Chilean MOVILH LGBT organization has called for prosecutors to add torture charges to their criminal complaint. The trial is expected to generate substantial public awareness.
