Cops Found Gay Porn And Guns In Former Sheriff Pat Sullivan's Home After Arrest
Former Arapahoe County Sheriff and conservative Republican Pat Sullivan was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two year probation for his meth-for-sex arrest last year.
In detailing the case against the Denver resident, CBS News reports that police found a whole arsenal, some good and some bad, in his apartment:
Evidence forms obtained by CBS4 show that investigators, who were given consent to search Sullivan's home, recovered "49 various pornography DVDs ... Misc gay male porn magazines and DVDs ... envelope with condoms ... three Arapahoe County Deputy Sheriff badges ... "
Additionally, from Sullivan's garage and bedroom, they recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, a Winchester .22 caliber rifle and a 16 gauge shotgun.
Sullivan was arrested after offering an informant drugs in exchange for sex. Also during the sting, he broke out a portable DVD player, put on some gay porn and said, "This is ... what I think you'll enjoy; real young guys."
AFTER THE JUMP, a recap of Sullivan's arrest.

this is not a shock.

A flash-bang grenade? In a sex-for-drugs sting?

Conservative Republican/gay porn? Boy you never hear those two phrases together!

"recovered "49 various pornography DVDs ... Misc gay male porn magazines and DVDs ... envelope with condoms" what difference does it make if he had porn and condoms. Unless it was illegal porn they make it seem like gay porn is illegal.

well, timothyjames, under a certain republican candidate ANY porn could very well become illegal soon.
you know, a certain republican candidate representing the very party that this man has supported for years.
they're not making it seem like gay porn is illegal. his chosen party, however, has been working very hard to "make it seem", to their base and the rest of America, that being gay is a bad thing.
surely this distinction is not lost on you.

timothy
it matters because as sherriff he was very much an opponent of Gays

I think maybe Timothy was just asking why the investigators confiscated the porn. I'm assuming it's because this case is about Sullivan hiring male prostitutes, so the porn is meant to provide evidence at trial that he has an interest in gay sex.

Porn and guns aren't illegal. Sorry, but those of you who think this is funny apparently haven't been around long enough to know how anti-gay police culture words. In my hometown, a bar owner was targeted for set up and bust on drug charges because he dared to go before city council and call the mayor and police chief corrupt for harassing his customers. They went to great lengths to send him a potential boyfriend, who was really handsome, who asked for some coke, and the bar owner arranged a small purchase. They busted him and the newspaper article read:
"A search of the suspect's home revealed pornographic videos. It's unknown at this time if any child pornography was found."
There was no reason to suspect him of having child pornography. It was a smear.
Remember that if they can do it to someone you dislike, they can do it to someone you like.

thing is, Mr. Hearne, this man brought it on himself. You can't contribute to an anti-gay culture and then cry VICTIM when it comes back to bite you in the place where your balls were supposed to be.

Kiwi thinks he knows everything, but just what is the evidence that the sheriff was objectively gay (and no, being against legislation that no liberal would endorse 20 years ago does not count)? Hearne aptly points out the real homophobia: just what was that point about child porn? Kiwi, dig deep into your gay pride instincts and find some offense in that!

I'm torn on this one. I can't find any specifically anti-gay measures that this guy is on record supporting - just anti-drug measures. In particular, the original Huff-Post article said he was a hard ass concerning youth and drugs which makes him a hypocrite on that front but not necessarily on the issue of sex. Anyone find anything suggesting otherwise?
If not, I'm torn on this because the war on drugs seems so ridiculous to me (I'm a proponent of J.S. Mill's in this regard). As law enforcement, you can be put in the position of enforcing laws that you don't actually agree with (like anti-drug laws).
Now if this guy was anti-gay, then yes he deserves to be called out for that. But if he doesn't, then maybe this is more of a smear campaign.

Are there any straight sheriffs in Arizona?
