  1. I think it's misleading to say that the children of the rich don't know where a dollar comes from (around :58) and it's misleading to insinuate that the children of the poor do.

  2. You're taking a few words out of context and spinning it into something he didn't say. What he said was, "You will encounter people... They can get all the way through high school and never understand where a dollar comes from because they just get it given to them." Nowhere does he say all rich people are bad, just that some people take the advantages they have for granted, which is indisputable.

The overall message is that young people shouldn't give in to resentment of people who HAVE been given things and instead single-mindedly pursue their own goals. It's actually a very conservative statement, almost a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" sort of thing, though it's presented as "you can be whoever you want," empowering instead of critical.

  3. JJ: Thank goodness someone like you is here to stand up for rich kids. Otherwise, who would?

  4. Henry Rollins is a good man trying to be helpful. I am touchd by his sincere efforts. He has said just the right thing for those who need it and though it wouldn't have hurt his message he clearly intended to remain off camera himself preferring that his words speak through the contributing images.

Though he often seems like the most difficult man on earth, I've always sort of loved Henry.

  5. The POINT is NOT whether a kid knows where a dollar comes from or not, don't be simple minded like a hater. The point is to know one self, know the situation, DIY, plan, think things through, GET OFF YOUR BUTT and work work work.

  10. This speech never would have made it through committee. His authenticity engages his audience, not his face or his resumé. The rich haven't done a very good job solving our problems, not because they won't, but because they can't. Money doesn't solve problems by itself. And the combination of wealth and ability is so rare
The same malaise that infects society infects us. We sound just like them.
