Gay Republican Group Calls Obama Endorsement of Same-Sex Marriage 'Offensive and Callous'

Gay GOP group Log Cabin Republicans weighs in on today's Obama announcement:

Rclarke_cooper“That the president has chosen today, when LGBT Americans are mourning the passage of Amendment One, to finally speak up for marriage equality is offensive and callous,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. “Log Cabin Republicans appreciate that President Obama has finally come in line with leaders like Vice President Dick Cheney on this issue, but LGBT Americans are right to be angry that this calculated announcement comes too late to be of any use to the people of North Carolina, or any of the other states that have addressed this issue on his watch. This administration has manipulated LGBT families for political gain as much as anybody, and after his campaign’s ridiculous contortions to deny support for marriage equality this week he does not deserve praise for an announcement that comes a day late and a dollar short.”

  7. understand that Gay Republicans just had their hearts broken today. This was a devastating turn of events for them. Any reminders that they're full of s**t tears them apart.

The LCR were all but silent about the Republican support of Amendment One.

this is merely one more case of sad insecure self-hating gay men freaking out at being reawakened to the reality that the people they need to "hate" to win the tolerance of their communities are the very people who are responsible for whatever freedoms and equalities they will ever know.

  10. Does he really think the state that last amended its constituion to ban mixed race marriage would have paid any heed to an endorsement from our biracial president?

  11. this is pathetic, such self hating gays

  12. You belong to a party which will never support your rights and you criticize the President? How pathetic and disturbing that there are others who think like you and take the abuse of your party.

  13. I still think it's a political risk, not a benefit to have done this at all. I give Obama props for it, and Mr Cooper's "Day late and dollar short" argument just doesn't add up.

  14. Those self-hating fags have the claws out already? Are you serious?

Let's be clear: this wouldn't have affected NC's vote AT ALL. Nobody who voted for Amendment One would've said "oh the President is for gay marriage? I guess I am too!"

Get OUT of my face with that.

  15. Yes, RODOLFO, he does. Because like all Republicans, he can convince himself of anything despite overwhelming and unequivocal evidence to the contrary.

  16. What a dork! I think it's perfect timing for Obama, it's like saying "if the South doesn't want marriage, I'll show them..."

  21. This announcement was uplifting on a day when some gays felt hopeless that marriage equality would ever happen. Not to mention incredibly brave of Obama.

Wanna talk about callous and offensive? Read about how Romney came out against marriage equality and against civil unions a day after North Carolina did the exact same thing. Guess he had to see just how large the margin of success was on Amendment One to figure out how to fine tune that statement.

  22. Cooper ... what a warped mind.

Preaching support for Romney (who has proposed a US Constitutional ban on same sex marriage and a repeal of DADT) while taking offense at Obama for endorsing it.

This is a mind on conservative crack.

  23. Wait, I thought Kurt Hummel's dad liked gays. :( ;)

  24. Wow. That is just plain ridiculous.

  25. Mr Cooper - I guess you haven't heard the expression "better late than never". Mitt said just today that he will never support same-sex marriage.

How can you keep a straight face and criticize Obama for taking too long to support this, when your leader-in-waiting wants to ban it in the US constitution. I think you are living on another planet...
