Sen. Max Baucus Applauds Montana Democrats For Gay Marriage Support
Democratic Senator Max Baucus of Montana praised his state's Democrats for including marriage equality in their official platform this week.
According to activist and blogger D Gregory Smith, Baucus is the first elected statewide Montana official to endorse marriage equality.

I was reminded that Montana Supreme Court Justice James C Nelson was re-elected in 2004 after favoring marriage equality in 1997's Gryczan vs the State of Montana, so he was first.

Montana has a history of solid progressive democrats. I remember their Sen Mike Mansfield who was a progressive and Senate majority leader during part of the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. And nearby in Idaho they had the liberal democratic senator Frank Church.
