Ugandan Religious Leaders Want 'Kill the Gays' Bill Revived

Paul Canning points us to this article in Uganda's Daily Monitor which notes that Ugandan religious leaders are eager to get the "kill the gays" bill in play again:

UgandaSpeaking after their recent annual conference organised by the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), an ecumenical body which brings together the Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox churches, the bishops resolved that the parliamentary committee on Gender should be tasked to engage the House on the Bill which is now at committee level.

“We also ask the Education committee to engage the Ministry of Education on the issue of incorporating a topic on human sexuality in the curricula of our schools and institutions of learning,” the resolutions signed by archbishops Henry Luke Orombi, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, indicated.

The clerics also appealed to all the churches in the country “to remain steadfast in opposing the phenomena of homosexuality, lesbianism and same-sex union”.

Adds Canning:

The Vatican came out strongly and publicly against the bill and, Wikileaks revealed, even lobbied against it. Uganda watchers say that the change by the Ugandan Catholic church is “very serious” and that the UJCC resolution was pushed by an Anglican Bishop.

Another concern is that, according to the East African, Ugandan President Yowari Museveni is backing his wife, Janet, to take over from him in 2016. She has close ties to American evangelical dominionist Christian groups and is widely believed to be a force behind the “Kill the Gays” bill.

  1. Christians want to kill people they disagree with? Is that supposed to be a surprise?

  2. I have been telling people for months the true story that has been covered up is the complicity of American Christian Fundys and Dominionist (Sarah Palin) in the Uganda bills. They FULLY support Kill the Gays in action while denying it in words to the wider domestic audience.

Another thing American Christians have perfected is the art of LYING with impunity. They have truly desecrated what is left of what was once considered a Religion founded on the most important commandment (stated by Jesus)

    Love thy neighbor

Okay "love" I am being facetious we never believed that for one minute when I was in the Fundy-Church indeed we were told never to "witness" to certain people since it was an obvious waste of time.

What people? oh just the prostitutes, addicts and fornicators the same people Jesus had about him during his ministry.

That was another lie to hoodwink those you were evangelizing.

  3. But GOProud told me that people protesting Scott Lively were "fringe activists" in their April 17 press release.

Because really, you're obviously overreacting if you're protesting someone whose actions led to this bill.

  5. But @kpo5 told me that I should be more worried about people who want to kill me or about Muslims who recently killed three gay men in Iran by hanging?

  6. UGANDA, to the top of the African A-hole list. My heart goes out to the gays in Uganda; they're no match for these cursed religions. There's a special place in hell for the evangelicals, Catholics and Eastern Orthodox who are behind this evil turn of events.

  8. i doubt these politicians honestly care one way or the other about homosexuals, but the flood of money coming to them when they bring up this bill they DO care about
follow the money-- works every time

  10. Being fundamentalist is wrong not matter what religion it is based on. Would the historical Jesus that kept the teachers of religion from stoning the prostitute, really want people to kill the gays in his name ? Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees which is self righteousness....

  11. we should bring back KILL THE BLACKS.

    Posted by: D | Jun 13, 2012 8:25:22 AM

  12. Christians want black people, and everyone not exactly like them, killed as well. Christianity is a cancer on humanity. One that must be excised.

  13. welcome to the right wing churches, including the vatican, whose German pope in 2009 UNexcommunicated a holocaust denying bishop williamson (google eg Pope UNexcommunicates holocaust denying bishop williamson"

He probably plans to make Williamson the next Eichmann to "protect the family" and "protect the life of the church,at the expense of repeating the sending of germany's gays also to the ovens.

And his USA mouthpiece, cardinal Dolan, will speak at the repub convention. Showing that catholic charity is for the rich.

BTW re Uganda we have there the joining of muslim influence and extremist right wing catholic and xtian influence

REligion is all but dead in Europe, dying in latin America. The USA is its last stand., its battle of the bulge.

Lose this one to them and hitler will be seen as a wart on the ass of a mad tiger.

BTW Uganda - remember Edi Amin _ Muslim influence mixed with a german pope who served in the hitler youth corp and saw this in his youth
