Barbara Walters Discusses George Zimmerman Interview That Never Was: VIDEO

ZimmermanWalters

While Sean Hannity always had exclusive rights to George Zimmerman's first television interview, Barbara Walters was also supposed to have an interview with the man accused of shooting and killing 17-year old Trayvon Martin. That interview never happened.

According to Walters, she and her producers flew down to Florida to chat with Zimmerman, but the 28-year old had a demand they couldn't grant. Walters wouldn't say what that demand was — "It was a condition that, being a member of ABC News, I was unable to grant.” — but many speculate cash-strapped Zimmerman wanted ABC News to put him up in a hotel for a month.

Though she didn't get to conduct an official interview with Zimmerman, Walters did spend about an hour with him and describes him as "polite, soft-spoken and stubborn."

Watch Walters discuss the aborted interview mission AFTER THE JUMP.

  1. I don't mean to sound callous, but I don't understand why this story has garnered so much attention. Absurd and even racist murders happen every day because of our stupid lack of gun control. Also, Zimmerman is clearly insane, and anyone who would allow him on neighborhood watch with a gun also bears some responsibility.

  2. What makes this story relevant, Paul, was the fact that the police tried to get the guy go and helped him cover it up, because the kid that was killed was black. Murders happen every day and racist murders may happen almost as frequently, but it's not every day where you have overwhelming evidence of that murder and the police still won't prosecute.

Because of the police's action, it's going to be very hard to convict Zimmerman -- they've created doubt where none should exist. The hunted down and guy killed Treyvon when he was told to stay in his fracking car. The book must be thrown at him.

  3. So, if I murder someone in cold blood I get to spend an hour with Barbara Walters too?!

  4. This article leaves out the fact that Zimmerman and his lawyer CALLED IN to the show today while it was on air! Barbara politely declined allowing him to make comments or have a mini, phone interview. She basically said that if he wasn't willing to have the sit down interview yesterday that she flew in for in Florida then she didn't think it was a good idea to have a truncated one via phone.

  5. I hate Barbara Walters. She's always been a second rate journalist and now she's more washed up than ever. She is pathetic on TV - she just tries to be nice and friendly with everyone instead of asking any decent questions.

It's time she retired. She's smug and boring.

I think it's depressing that someone as old as her still NEEDS all this attention.

I know The View is a crap show but surely even they want someone better to present the show.

  7. @Ryan: OK, thanks. I certainly wasn't defending a murderer.

  8. You want me to watch a TV clip of vapid, clucking, retarded harpies talk about an interview that DIDN'T even happen? Are you high?

  9. Icebloo: Wow. No. Really. Wow.
You HATE a woman you've never met and has never caused you any harm?
I guess you think it's ok if others hate you for the very same reason?
    Wow.

  12. I understand what Paul R was trying to say- and I guess, the hope is that we have national debates over pressing issues like these and hopefully the more people that are educated, it's less of a chance that horrific things like this happen.

As to Zimmerman, ughhh...... What'd I'd really like to say other than I hope he gets swift justice.

  13. 'm sure someone in Fort Lauderdale would have been able to put him up in a hotel for a month.

  14. But ofcourse this murderer would grant his first interview to Faux New's Hannity. They're all a part of the kill a "suspicious looking" black guy crowd with only conservatives championing his "cause" and donating the cash for his defense.

  15. ICEBLOO: Don't trash Barbara Walters. When she was younger and later in her life she interviewed many world leaders and every President. She was pioneer for women in television, and became the first woman to become a sole anchor at ABC, with a then unheard of $! million in 1976. She is an institution in television. She has interviewed all the current stars with her Academy Awards specials. Walters also mentions in her biography, that she had an affair with a black senator. Just because someone may be getting older, don't trash them. It only demonstrates lack of knowledge and history.
    You'll get old too.

  16. I'm sick to death of this story

  17. Tony,

You're not the only one tired of this media sensationalized story. A majority of comments on various blogs are people sick of hearing about this and how the media manipulated this incident and keeps spinning.

  18. We'll never know the truth of what happened that night. I believe both parties were guilty of inappropriate behavior and acting like they were above the law. Conducting oneself with class would have avoided being in either Trayvon Martin or Mr. Zimmerman's shoes

  20. Liberal media bias. They say Fox News is bias. No Fox News shoot sstraight. This story has been fabricated by liberal media from the start. It's hilarious at this point and a majority of the country outside of MSNBC loons know it

  22. Most people are spinning this story to suit their own preconceived notions.

  23. Walters sweats desperation. Her zeal to have the spotlight shining on her with the subtlety of an operating room lamp when it has nothing to do with her reeks of fawning ego.

  24. Of course he went on Hannity - the go-to program for America's Bigoted Low-Thinkers.

grown adult man follows and pursues younger, shorter, lighter unarmed teenager. police tell grown adult man to back off and stay in his vehicle. grown adult man ignores police, and pursues unarmed teen, with his gun. armed grown adult man does not identify himself to unarmed teen, teen tries to run, armed grown adult man chases him, and unarmed teen is murdered by armed older heavier taller grown adult man.

you'd have to be a pathetic low-thinking racist scumbag yourself to twist that into Zimmerman being anything other than an unhinged trigger-happy bigot.
