Chick-Fil-A Recalls Muppet Kids Meal Toys, Declaring Them Unsafe

According to a photo published to the 'Wipe Out Homophobia" Facebook group, Chick-Fil-A has announced a voluntary recall of Jim Henson's Creature Shop Puppet Kids Meal toys, and is blaming it on safety issues. There's no information on when the notice was allegedly put up, but the "recall" is backdated to one day before the Jim Henson Company cut ties with Chick-Fil-A for its donations to anti-gay groups.

The notice says "Willow Bend Mall" which is in Plano, Texas.

Says the notice:

"We apologize for any inconvenience but as of 7/19/12 Chick-Fil-A has voluntarily recalled all of the Jim Henson's Creature Shop Puppet Kids Meal toys due to a possible safety issue. Please be advised that there have not been any cases in which a child has actually been injured, however there have been some reports of children getting their fingers stuck in the holes of the puppets. We are offering a substitution of a complimentary kids icedream cone in its place until a replacement toy is available."

Coincidence? Perhaps they're worried the kids might touch something gay-friendly.

  1. This just begs a lawsuit for libel from the toy manufacturer

  2. The bible says that if you lie you are an ABOMINATION. Chick is lying about the alleged recall. They're trying to save face. ABOMINATIONS!

  3. Chick-Fil-A should recall their food. They have racked up several health violations over the year including storing "Raw dog food with Ready-to-eat Food" The rest will turn your stomach:

  4. What happened to....

    Thou shall not lie?

Thou shall not bare false witness against thy neighbor?

It's amazing how so called Christians will break any of the top ten sins when justifying their hatred of homosexuals. Disney should sue the crap out of them for defamation since this is obvious bullshite.

  8. Unclear if this is a company directive or just a store manager looking for effect; I suspect the latter

  9. Dan Cathy made his statement on 7/18 and the PR machine started spinning and issued a damage control statement on 7/19.

Chick-Fil-A stores are entirely/almost entirely franchisees. They pay royalty fees to Chick-Fil-A to use their name and use their processes. I'm wondering how long it's going to take for the franchisees to sue Chick-Fil-A for damaging their business and future revenues. As a franchiser, you can't simply go around saying things that alienate the customer base.

  10. "We at Chick-Fil-A dont' want your children playing with a toy that might make them compassionate to diversity, so instead we're going to substitute it with something to help make your kids fatter"

  11. Anti-Miss Piggy? This war, b*tches!

  12. My guess? This is fake.

Either photoshopped, or somebody printed this out, put it into place at the store, and took a picture.

This announcement would open them to a lawsuit from the Henson company, and really, if they simply wanted to announce that the toys weren't available any more, simply saying that would make much better business sense.

  13. "...reports of children getting their fingers stuck in the holes of the puppets." Is Chik-Fil-A accusing the muppets of encouraging child on muppet sodomy? Priceless!

  14. I just wrote Disney informing them of this bullshite. Obviously nothing will probably happen but it irritates me how this is such an outright lie but an organization that prides itself on its so called morality. I contacted Disney Consumer Products and here's the general contact link if anyone else is interested. It would be a semi miracle if Disney didn't put up with this.

  15. Let's recall that Bigot-Fil-A is a franchise business and this is likely the work of a lone conehead. Still, a defamation claim from the manufacturer is indeed a viable response.

  16. "Fingers getting stuck in the hole" Is that a veiled anal sex joke?! Wow, now the true colors are showing.

I can't believe people actually eat food made by these massive assholes.

  17. Here's the contact information for The Henson Company. I would call myself but I was already in a bad mood today and this just made it worse. Don't think I would be a very level headed LGBT representative at the moment.

  19. This is obviously a hoax.

    1) Only one of these pics have shown up, from a store supposedly in Texas.

    2) Since no official word has come from company headquarters, this would open them to a legendary lawsuit.

    3) It's not hard to run off a fake statement on fake letterhead, run into a store, place the sign, snap a pic, and then run away.

    4) The cause of the "defect" is too vague, and seems to be worded for comic effect.

    5) I don't think the toys have been released yet, anyway, they hadn't been finished.

    It's still funny, though.

  20. @Paul: It's not a hoax. Here is a Facebook page from a Chik-Fil-A store also claiming the "voluntary recall" lie:

  21. @MICHAEL: why should we call the Henson Company?

    Posted by: LARRY | Jul 24, 2012 4:23:32 PM

  22. Hey guys, I called the CA number and as soon as I started thanking them for their support they transfered me to a statement line where I was able to leave a message, thanking them for their support and expressing how frustrated I was with this lie. If you feel like it, just call that number and tell them you'd like to make a statement and you'll be transfered. I feel so much better now.

@ Larry... Who else do we call?

  23. Lots of Dan Cathy water-carriers posting in here all of a sudden.

  24. Looks like a whole bunch of Chick-fil-A stores have issued the same "voluntary recall", Paul.

  25. They are getting it bad! This is what happens when businesses decide to get social. Hopefully, businesses will learn to keep their mouths shut or just suffer the consequences from their views. Good job, Muppets! The chicken isn't that damn good anyway.
