One Million Moms Gripe Ineffectually At Their Televisions

The_new_normal-showFirst it was JC Penney, and then Toys'R'Us, and then Green Lantern, The Gap, Kraft, Marvel Comics, and D.C. Comics -- the anti-gay organization One Million Moms has ineffectually boycotted, or threatened to ineffectually boycott, more things than any ineffectual boycotters in recent memory. And they're back at it! Their current target: NBC's new sitcom, The New Normal.

From OMM's website:

To sum it up, this show is about a homosexual couple who hires a surrogate to have their baby. The season premiere is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 9:30/8:30 p.m. Central. It is no surprise that openly gay Ryan Murphy, is one of the executive producers and director, who also brought us "American Horror Story," "GLEE," and "Nip/Tuck."

NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture.

Note the sneering reference to "openly gay Ryan Murphy," which is supposed to mean -- what? That gays shouldn't have jobs? Or that gays shouldn't be power players in the entertainment industry?

It is the case that consumers of all kinds of art, sitcoms to operas, are frequently exposed to sympathetic portrayals of characters they find unsavory, because the point of most art isn't to model some viewer's idea of utopia. Adults deal with it. And so do One Million Moms, most of the time. They're Christian, but they don't gripe about the atheists on The Big Bang Theory. They're probably very nice, non-violent, law-abiding citizens, but they don't gripe about the Soprano family. They only gripe about highly visible gays. Pretty weird.

  1. These people really need to get over their obsession with gay people. What is it about us that drives them so completely insane more than any other section of society? If they don't want to watch The New Normal then they don't have to. I absolutely hated the show 7th Heaven and would quickly change the channel when that came on.

  2. No, they don't want us to have jobs, or lives, or relationships. They want us DEAD.

  3. I think that they were trying to say that the only reason a TV show about a gay couple exists is because one of our own has the power to make it. Which, sadly, is probably true.

They were probably trying to call up the whole gay recruiter stereotype as well. Using the TV show to pervert innocent young minds and all that jazz.

  4. Thanks Brandon, that's exactly the point that I think is most non-sensical about all these anti-gay christianists that I don't see articulated that much in the media. Why are they so obsessed with all things gay? If their main problem with it is because 'the Bible says....' then why are they also not off crusading against atheists or agnostics or buddhists or people who get divorced or men who don't get circumsized or people who eat pork or shellfish etc... and blah, blah, blah. Why so focused on the gay?

  5. I love one million mom's!! They have great taste. I know immediately if there is a great show, store, company I should be watching, supporting etc... by their boycott decisions. Thanks OMMs. Who knew that these 3 mothers would produce such a great guide?

  6. "Openly gay Ryan Murphy" means that if he was closeted they'd have no problem with him...or something. I'll offer my strategy to the 40,000 Bigot Moms once more--BOYCOTT EVERYTHING, then just pick out the few things that fit your narrow view of the world.

  7. Yep. Greed, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, pride, (straight) lust ... they don't have a problem with TV shows that showcase any of those. But, love? They are totally, irrationally obsessed with getting rid of any depiction of gay love that exists. The moms need some serious professional psychiatric help. Both of them.

  8. We are a nation of some 350,000,000 people. Half are female. Don't count the 100,000,000 or so children, and you're still talking 125,000,000 women. Now, some women don't and won't ever have kids, so let's chop the number again, to 100,000,000 moms.

I can't fathom why this group would call itself 1,000,000 moms. Unless, of course, they're just not that bright...

  9. Exposure to this silly group serves to heighten their absurdity!

  10. Several months ago on the AFA website-- under divisions-- also listed with the OMM was the
One Million Dads. BUT that link had not showed any activity since 2009 (?). The Dads are gone now from the site---Obviously the Dads left them to fend for themselves......

Wonder where the Dads are ?

  11. How many "goog" christian women watch soap operas? Great moral values and support of marriage. white washed sepulcurs all of them

  12. It's too bad there's not a truth in labeling law for lobbying organizations: they should be called "1700 Closeted Lesbians with Carb Addictions and Bad Feet" as that is probably a more accurate description of their core constituency.

  13. It's going to be another terrible Ryan Murphy show; who cares? I think I have my fill of terrible shows with True Blood, tyvm.

  14. One Million Moms would LOVE for you to tell them about trash you find on TV. Go ahead. Tell them what you think of their pointless crusade:

  15. "Because the point of most art isn't to model some viewer's idea of utopia." Or some director/writers view of their utopia? Right Ryan Murphy? Aaron Spelling did more for gay television than this ego could produce in a life time. And you shouldn't slam the Moms. Isn't that what so many of you want to imitate?

  16. I see you don't have a Fundie to English dictionary available. Allow me to translate as unfortunately I speak fluent Fundie thanks to my upbringing among East Texas Southern Baptists.

openly gay means that not only is Ryan Murphy a HOMOSEXUAL but he doesn't even have the decency to hide the fact that he's a HOMOSEXUAL!

I hope that clears that up.

  17. Imagine when these not-quite one million moms become not-quite one million grannies and their grandkids, raised in a world of growing acceptance, google and discover their sort-of loving grannies weren't so loving - but associated with a campaign of such bigotry and hate.

  18. Haters gonna hate.

    Posted by: Fireblazes | Jul 22, 2012 4:05:55 PM

  19. If hate is the only excuse you've got, good luck. What will happen when it seeps into your marriages. Then you'll really have a better understanding. Odds favor that.

  20. Blame their husbands! Obviously they were stuck in an unhappy marriage with nothing else to look forward to. Never mind the attention they could never get from their spouses. I'm just surprise they are not some potential Toddlers and Tiaras to keep them away from this activities. I guess the whole idea of having the attention themselves better than on someone else and that's including their kids.

  21. No VoenixRising, they don't want us dead. These religions, cults and other such superstitious organizations would no longer be able to use us to make money. It is through the demonizing of one class of people that another class comes to power.

  22. Has One-Million-Moms reached the status of Hate Group? If not, why not?

    Posted by: OS2Guy | Jul 22, 2012 4:37:01 PM

  23. You know..

I really used to HATE OMM... I really, truly did.

Now, I LOVE them.. I really, truly do!

It seems that each and every company/product they boycott sees a noticeable upsurge in popularity, that simply MUST translate to greater earnings. THIS is the most AWESOME thing ever...

We should all contact OMM with a long list of all of the Gay positive companies, and products currently out on the market.. and have them publicly announce their boycotts. I'm sure those companies would greatly enjoy their increased exposure, and increase in profits!

    Keep it going OMM!!!

They're an arm of an anti-gay hate group. Not weird at all. And they're not Christian in any real sense of the word -- only in the defensive, self-proclaimed victim sense.

  25. Those creatures and their failed campaigns are so pathetic that I don't know why to lose time reporting whatever new wackery they start. Just let them boil in their vaginal juices.
