Vote based on the state of the economy and Obama’s record…or lack there of

    Romney in 2012!!!

Obama is a liar and is only pandering to the LGTB!!!

  2. TANK says

I know that some of the bitter, middle-aged queens who comment often here aren’t going to like this, but I have to say, I’m getting a little tired of seeing Zach Wahls popping up into the political conversation every two weeks or so. Yes, he is an admirable person, and I am glad he is our ally, but come on, let some other cute twinkish in a fratboy kind of way dude have a chance to develop a following in the gay community! You’re cute, Zach, but you ain’t that cute! Just keeping it real, y’all… just keeping it real!

  3. TANK says

LIZ, I know you are really the misanthropic RATBASTARD in disguise, so please take your pathetic longing for love from straight white Republicans who hate you and defile some other forum… please!

  4. RHR IN TN says

Liz, plesae explain how voting for Romney, who has pledged to not only stop the momentum of equality for LGBT’s, but to actually take away what rights we already have, is in my best interest. I’m all ears.

  5. Liz says

    RHR,
Again, you are not focusing on the real issues.
We need to be worried about our nation’s economy. What about the deficit? We spend money we don’t have…We need to stop giving our taxpayer money away. We need to end the corruption now. The fact is Obama is corrupt!
And he is inept…Inept in his policy and in his ability to negotiate and work with the Senate and Congress
Obama is not going to give you equal rights
Our community will reach equality, but it won’t be under Obama’s watch.
Obama did not bring about change.
He has failed to live up to his promises.
    He’s all rhetoric
It’s time to fire Obama and give someone else a chance to make the right decisions and govern wisely
and it might surprise you…what Romney is capable of
A decent, moral, and intelligent Man!

  6. Luke says

Liz is a troll but there are too manies LGBT that vote for people who want to take away their rights and this because they think that few dollar less taxes will change their world.

  7. DrJWL says

TANK you are the average bitter gay who gets snippy about cute boys who take away the attention. Get over yourself and your “keeping it real”. Whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean.

  8. RHR IN TN says

I agree with you on one point, Liz. We need to stop giving our taxpayer money away. We need to stop giving it to “job creators” in forms of tax breaks. No jobs, just money in their pockets. We need to stop moving taxpayer money into offshore tax havens. Put that money to work here in the US. Romney has pledged to take away rights we already have, yet you still try to sell him as someone we should trust. Since you know all about Romney, Liz, perhaps you can tell us exaclty how many classes he would actually like to divide the people into?

  9. Caliban says

How soon they forget. Who had been President for almost 8 years when the economy tumbled? George W Bush, a Republican. What was a major factor in the malfeasance of the banking industry and Wall Street? Deregulation, which is practically the Republican party’s raison d’etre.

Which political party still promotes a “trickle down” theory of economics despite the fact that it has NEVER worked? The GOP, by tailoring their policies to benefit NOT even the “1%,” but the .001%. This while the middle class shrinks each year, their earnings stagnant since the 1980s.

Which party appointed the Supreme Court Justices who made the “Citizens United” ruling that allows limitless corporate cash in elections, essentially putting democracy for sale to the highest bidder? They were appointed by Republicans.

Which party, in response to the vast number of people without access to health care, the common experience of seeing financially ruined by even fairly common illnesses, is basically “drop dead”? The GOP. This even though it has become an everyday occurrence to see a news story about a violent attack that ends with “donations to cover health care costs can be made….” Even though it’s common to see jars at local stores begging for spare change to cover medical bills.

Which party has been behind the demonization of LGBT people to benefit themselves politically? Republicans. They oppose even the most basic of rights for gay people, not just marriage but protections in housing and jobs.

Which party’s Presidential candidate is a high-profile member of a religion that has involved itself POLITICALLY across the country including Hawaii to oppose gay rights? The GOP, through their candidate Mitt Romney.

Who would have to be insane to vote for Mitt Romney? YOU!

  10. says

Liz, what will you do with all your money and luxuries when you would be stripped off all your basic rights or to say, have no rights in comparison to your straight counterparts whatsoever. Jeez, if only people could trade their money for rights. And even if it’s all politics then also we should realise that if we all vote and make Obama win this time with a large margin then it would not only build considerable pressure on them but also on other parties who aspire to win in future or stay in power for that matter to bring a change for good. So guys be responsible citizens and do vote for Obama so that unlike us, our children won’t be deprived of the rights that we crave for.

The only politician who ever made me feel hope and tingle with goosebumps is Obama, to hear a sitting president say he supports Gay Marriage is chilling. Pandering or not what does it matter. Obama has done more then any other president has done for us.

For years now, Tank has started his rants off with “you bitter, middle-aged queens”. Tank, sweetie, I’m sure you’re a bit long in the tooth yourself by now, Hun.

the “forward” letters/GLBT Obama logo at the parade at the end of the clip would make a great tee-shirt. create the art from that angle, and it demonstrates progress.

  15. Michael says

Romney is just an empty suit who is far too grand to eat cookies from the best bakery in town, perfectly willing to diss the nice ladies who were duped into hosting him and setting out snacks for his worthless ass. In his world, his “little culinary folks” nibble the burned edges off his cookies and array them tastefully on doilies spun from spider silk for his delectation. And that’s the way it is.

  16. says

    @ LIZ :

    You are wrong, wrong, wrong.
You want to turn the Supreme Court over to a majority of conservative right wingers like Alito and Scalia and Thomas….and that’s where a vote for Romney will take us.

@ CALIBAN above is correct…….the Republicans brought destruction of the economy, undermined Magna Carta, approved torture, acted criminally on wire taps without getting warrants, reneged on their committments to the Geneva Conventions, were “on the bridge” for 9/11,and recklessly ignored the warnings, and have given and continue to support tax cuts for the wealthy.

Obama has got rid of the shame of DADT, supports marriage equality, has brought cases through the Attorney General to declare DOMA unconstitutional and has prevented absolute catastrophy in the economy, which is where Bush and the Republicans took the country.
Liz, Republicans are essentially social climbers, they will sell their souls/integrity for self advancement, they have no interest in, or commitment to, the concept of a society where social programmes are lauded and seen as the mark of a civilized society.
Instead the Republicans are the Tea Party of self interests, don’t want to pay tax, hide their wealth in foreign accounts and bible thump the bitterness of the Bible to claim the support of the Almighty.
Republicans are enemies of society……they are the personified selfish instincts of all megalomaniacs.

  17. Mary in Iowa says

Liz, from one lesbian to another….. You just don’t get it. Republicans will say you are a no one right to your face – why would you want to give them any power to do so! Obama 2012! Democrats 2012.

  18. rick says

I agree with Zach that it is important that we re-elect President Obama. I can’t believe that someone on this site doesn’t like him because he is too “cute”. Zach Wahls is a very articulate spokesperson for marriage equality and his convictions come from his personal experience. Keep talking, Zach, we appreciate your support!

  19. rick says

Liz, Romney will take us right back to where we were under Bush. Obama has done the best he can with a Congress that actively opposes everything he does, just because they don’t like him, and that is hurting the economy and the country.
Romney says nothing on most issues, changing his position based on whatever audience he is addressing, but is very clear on LGBT issues. He is willing to change the constitution to take away any rights we have already achieved and deny any in the future.
Obama, on the other hand has refused to defend DOMA, eliminated Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, vocally supported marriage equality and more. He has done more than any previous president to advance the cause of equality. I support him 100%.

I usually don’t read the comments made on towleroad posts. They’re just so depressing, self-hating, and rife with predictable, too-cool-for-school contrarianism that it leaves me feeling sad for our community. I hereby reaffirm this commitment. :(

  21. alexander says

I like the new Rick better than that sick f*** that posts on here. Anyways Zach Wahls is awesome. Also as a gay man adopted by lesbians when i was 11 considered old in the fostercare community, better protections for gay parents would only help make things better for even my own siblings. even if gay parents divorce one would have to pay child support like in a hetero divorce. so this is all for the kids and promoting monogomay for gaymen in particular…well it’s a tough sell let’s be honest ya’ll men are pigs, but it’s also not impossible for even men to truly commit once they’ve found that one and it’s hard enough without being told we have no rights to marriage like everybody else.

  22. Jim Stone says

Zach is even more amazing in person. My partner and I met him in San Francisco in Feb. He’s mature, intelligent and charming and he’s only 21 years old!! He’s got a great future ahead of him. You go Zach!!! Jim and Dave from Cleveland are soooo proud of you!! It is because of people like you that perhaps someday we will have marriage equality in Ohio. Thanks so much…

  23. Patric says

Very well said, Caliban. I can’t say that I’m in the slightest bit surprised to see that Liz has returned to post further comments since your post went up yet, instead of attempting to refute even one of your assertions, she simply rambles about drinking the Kool Aid. This of course is the m.o. of those like Jason, Markus, Ratbastard, Liz and other Faux News viewers. They don’t have the intellect or knowledge of history, policy or world affairs to engage with us on substantive policy, so they simply content themselves to repeat the talking points they’ve been handed by Sean Hannity and El Rushbo.

“What about the deficit? We spend money we don’t have…We need to stop giving our taxpayer money away.”

You do realize that by far the largest contributors to our current deficit are the Bush tax cuts for millionaires, the wars begun in Iraq and Afghanistan by Bush (the former ended by President Obama)and the Bush Medicare prescription drug benefit and not President Obama’s successful stimulus law, don’t you? See http://theweek.com/article/index/217524/what-caused-the-national-debt-6-culprits ,
http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3490 and http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/06/23/988055/-10-Things-the-GOP-Doesn-t-Want-You-to-Know-About-the-Debt You must realize, as someone who professes to be very concerned about deficits, that the reason that unemployment isn’t 7.0% despite 28 consecutive months of private sector job growth under President Obama is that, unlike Reagan and the two Bushes when they faced economic downturns, the number of government employees has decreased under this President, don’t you? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/public-sector-austerity-in-one-graph/2012/06/11/gJQAv89NVV_blog.html Again, you must realize, as someone who purports to be concerned about deficits, that economists agree that the status quo ante of the U.S. health insurance system, which features health care costs as a percentage of GDP far in excess of the world’s other leading economies, was a major contributor to government deficits and that the non-partisan CBO has concluded that Obamacare will reduce the federal deficit, don’t you? http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2012-07-24/budget-office-obamas-health-law-reduces-deficit Finally, you must realize, as the histories of Herbert Hoover and FDR should have taught us and as the more recent experience of Europe should have reminded us, that economically sluggish periods are not the time to be focused on deficits and austerity but that we should instead be focused in these times on investing and job creation, such as proposed by President in his American Jobs Act and rejected by the do-nothing Republican Congress, don’t you? No, of course you don’t. http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/24/austerity-and-growth-again-wonkish/

“The fact is Obama is corrupt!”

OK, I guess, if you say so. You must realize that it is really tacky to assault someone’s character without offering a shred of evidence to back up your charges, don’t you? No, of course you don’t.

“And he is inept…Inept in his policy and in his ability to negotiate and work with the Senate and Congress”

As for policy, you must realize that (i) the non-partisan CBO has found that the President’s stimulus law prevented the unemployment rate from shooting above 10% as the effects of the Bush recession continued to rock the economy ( http://blog.wvpolicy.org/2012/02/29/cbo-report-shows-the-stimulus-is-still-boosting-the-economy.aspx ), (ii) 3.5 million private sector jobs have been created in the last 2.5 years, (iii) he killed bin Laden and has brought al Qaeda to its knees after Bush let bin Laden get away at Tora Bora and (iv) his investment in the U.S. auto industry has proved to be a resounding success despite certain others having urged us to “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”, don’t you? http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57380517-503544/let-detroit-go-bankrupt-column-dogs-romney-in-michigan/ As for the President’s ability to work with Congress, I’m not sure quite what he could have been expected to accomplish when Senate Republicans have used the filibuster to a degree never before seen ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/the-history-of-the-filibuster-in-one-graph/2012/05/15/gIQAVHf0RU_blog.html ) and the Senate Republican leader has declared it his number one goal to prevent the President from securing a President term. http://politic365.com/2012/01/27/the-10-worst-moments-of-disrespect-towards-president-obama/

  25. Patric says

“Obama is not going to give you equal rights.” You do realize that the number of concrete steps taken by the President’s administration to secure equal rights for LGBT people, including DADT repeal, refusal to defend DOMA, a federal order re hospital visitation rights and so many others that are far too numerous to list here (but some of which are listed here: http://www.hrc.org/resources/entry/obama-administration-policy-and-legislative-advancements-on-behalf-of-lgbt ), dwarf what any previous President has done for our community, don’t you? You do realize that by far the two most significant steps that this President has taken in terms of their future impact on LGBT equality are the appointment of two progressive Justices to the Supreme Court and that Romney has promised, by contrast, to appoint Justices in the mold of notorious homophobe Antonin Scalia, don’t you? No, of course you don’t. http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/Governor/Massachusetts/Mitt_Romney/Views/Supreme_Court_Justices/

“It’s time to fire Obama and give someone else a chance to make the right decisions and govern wisely
and it might surprise you…what Romney is capable of”

You do realize that, when Romney was Governor, Massachusetts ranked 47th in job growth and suffered the second largest labor force decline, don’t you? No, of course you don’t. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/06/04/494282/5-facts-about-the-massachusetts-economy-under-mitt-romney/

“A decent, moral, and intelligent Man!” I’m curious, is it the gay-bashing or the strapping his dog to the roof of his car which was more significant in leading you to so admire this “decent, moral” man?

Don’t worry, Liz, I don’t expect a response to any of this. I completely get that you’re in way over your head and that I’ve drunk the Kool Aid.
