Chick-fil-A Does Not Appreciate Chick-fil-A, Says Chick-fil-A Press Department

Despite the fact that CEO Dan Cathy keeps acting as if he speaks for all of Chick-fil-A, the franchise's corporate press office has sent around this short statement distancing themselves from the right wing "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day".

Jeremy at Good As You reports that mega pastor Rick Warren tweeted earlier today that Cathy called him and reported that the company set a record of some sort. The hashtag read "OutOfChicken."

  1. Why would you post something so misleading (both headline and substance)? Chick-fil-A did not create this event. And what's the support for your FACT that "that CEO Dan Cathy keeps acting as if he speaks for all of Chick-fil-A"?

Do you really not understand the reason for this press release? I really hope that this is just willful stupidity, rather than your actual interpretation of why this was issued.

  2. Well, they sure showed those starving children what good Christians they are by spending money at Chick-fil-a to stuff their own bellies...

  3. Publically??????
    How about publicly.

  4. The saddest thing about this statement is the incorrect spelling.

  5. This whole thing was almost certainly a ruse orchestrated by the Republican party to unite the "tea party" around a common enemy. Since dead fish Romney doesn't exactly get country folk's blood flowing...he lacks a risible fake Texas accent like Bush II after all...something like this is the next best thing. Stir up some "librul" and homo hatred to "energize the base". The language was carefully chosen to bait the left: "guilty as charged"...i.e., "f--- you, gays". It's sad that the advocacy group involved in hysterically manning the boycott cannons didn't see that they were being duped. And the moronic governors - don't get me started! You know when the slimeball Bloomberg manages to be on the ethical high road, there's a real PR disaster at hand.

  6. Oops...of course I meant the mayors.

  7. As I recall my Scripture teachings as a child in Sunday school, Christ was not portrayed as a bigot - quite unlike his Chick-fil-A "guilty-as-charged disciple" Dan Cathy. What a disgusting interpretation of Christian teaching.

  8. They can't have it both way. They need a stronger statement that "we don't appreciate Huckleberry's appreciation." What if KKK launches a "KKK appreciates Chick-fil-K day" ?

  9. When Christ said NOT to lie , 'religious' anti-gays say they are 'christians'.

When Christ said NOT to judge, anti-gay 'christians' argue back it's 'freedom of speech' and 'freedom of religion'.

When Christ did NOT condemn homosexuality at all, anti-gay 'christians' protest that homosexuality is an 'abomination' to their 'god' and condemn it as 'sin'.

When Christ gave the commandments to love God AND love thy neighbor as thyself as the GREATEST commandments above ALL biblical laws, Hate-Fill-AntiChrist organizations like Chick-Fil-A and other anti-gay 'christians' strike back again in support and vote for hateful discrimination laws like Amendment1, Prop8 and DOMA, the highest federal discrimination law above all state laws.

When REAL Christians and gays go against the anti-gay 'christians' , the latter call it 'intolerant'.

  10. Ha, ha. Someone's figuring out that when an extreme partisan takes up your cause and claims your business as part of the fold and calls everyone outside the fold haters and bullies, it's liable to cut off half your clientele.

  11. They won. We lost. Same-sex marriage is a smokescreen meant to distract us from our true target - getting The O-Man re-elected. Instead of bitching about this, we should be putting our money in campaign efforts. Eat somewhere else. Freedom on Hate Speech? I don't want to live in an interment camp in the middle of nowhere.

  12. I must agree w/M. Scott Hernandez. Chick-Fil-A and the anti-equality crowd put on quite a show on the national stage. Very well orchestrated, and they ensured every media outlet at every store location documented their success. We should learn a thing or two about their strategies and methods of we are to be ultimately successful in our efforts towards equality (we can't always rely on the courts to do the right thing). I doubt the media will allow this controversy to go away, and I highly doubt the "Kiss-In" being organized by GLAAD will be very successful either. . .not because I don't want it to be, but I hardly see the pro-equality side being as passionate, organized and focused on our message as the other side is in its efforts.

  14. They didn't win, people. That's what the right-wingers want you to think. Don't buy their propaganda.

When the controversy dies down what Chick-Fil-A will have learned is that giving huge financial support to anti-civil-rights groups will ruin any plans they have to expand beyond the bigot belt. They're out of step with the corporate world, and the fat-asses lined up yesterday will enter the history books as a shameful bunch of dinosaurs. And when the brouhaha has died down (and it will since the US has the attention span of a fly) any time CFA attempts to open in an equality-supportive place, their non-discrimination policies will be looked at very very carefully.

They Huckabee groupies put on a good show yesterday, but their run is ending. (He's not nationally unelectable by accident.) Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. If we're not successful in our efforts it's in large part because of the defeatists who always see our civil rights in terms of how they're playing with the right wing.

  15. Those people only bought meals for one day. They won't do it every day. Chick-Full-of-Hate need customers every day and their numbers are falling.

This protest/boycott IS working people. Keep up the good work. Humpty Dumpty CEO is going to be out of a job very soon if we continue this boycott.

    Posted by: Icebloo | Aug 2, 2012 2:03:49 PM

  16. Chick-fil-A is a privately owned company. Because of this, it has no ticker symbol and is not able to be purchased by everyday people. Like most private companies, you may only purchase stock if you work within the company. How can we tell if this protest/boycott IS working?

    Posted by: M. Scott Hernandez | Aug 2, 2012 2:19:31 PM

  17. In the short term this was a coup for Chik-Fil-A. In the long term, as Ernie mentioned above, they're trying to expand beyod the bigot belt and good luck with that. They're opening a number of stores here in the SF Bay Area in the next month and they didn't score any new customers in their "Chicken Pride Day". They had a bunch of bussed in christians from outlying areas who think going thru a drive-thru is a political statement.

  18. I just hate that Huckabee was able to get some attention for this. He's a nothing Governor of the second poorest state (thank god for MS. Yet he is able to drive a national campaign of huge magnitude. As Keith said, it was well orchestrated and covered by local media at every local. He was able to convince every christian that it was their "christian duty" to eat at CFA--and it worked! People are that frighted of us and they saw this as a way to retaliate against the vicious gays attacking their "christian values." Really!!!
I should mention also that all Chic-Fil-A's are privately owned and many of those owners are gay and lesbian. So, when we boycott CFA, we also attack so of our own lgbt.

  19. While it is disappointing to see all the news reports about all the supporters lined up around Chick Fil A locations, one must also look at something else. While there were a lot of people, I would seriously doubt that there were a million people taking part in this demonstration of anti-gay animus. If there were a million participants, that means that they had 0.3225806451612903 percent of the population of the United States supporting their efforts to shove a chicken sandwich down their throats.
