Elton John Anticipates 'Difficult Life' for His Kid

Elton John spoke with the Radio Times about his son 19-month-old son Zachary:

EltonBut the singer said he was preparing himself for what would be a rough time growing up for his son, who is now 19 months.
He told the Radio Times that the toddler did not yet have an inkling of his father's fame.

"I want music to be a huge part of his life. I sit him on my lap and he doesn't bang the piano. He tries to copy me but he's not formed enough yet to know what I do, thank God. When he finds out, he'll look at me as if I'm bonkers. Being the child of someone famous is a huge ball and chain around your ankles. It's going to be very difficult."

The Rocket Man singer told the magazine: "At school other children will say, 'You don't have a mummy'. We've come a long way, but there's still homophobia and will be until a new generation of parents don't instil it in their children."

He added of his son's upbringing: "It's natural for him. He calls me 'Daddy' and David 'Papa'."

  1. Last weekend I saw the most solicitous, attentive two gay dads with their four or five year old little blond kid. I saw such pride and care and love in them.
Such a kid with such parents should have no fear.....coming from such a loving home is a head start for any kid.
Congratulations you Gay Dads in P'town, whoever you are.
And don't fear Elton, it's a whole new world beyond your generation.

  2. I can't wait for the release of this generation's, "Mommie Dearest"!

The problem here isn't two dads, it's that one is Elton John!

There isn't enough attention in the world to satisfy his neediness.

  3. If Elton's worried, he could always give his child up for adoption and perhaps a chance at a better life.

  4. I don't think I have ever seen a paparazzi shot of Julia Roberts with any of her kids.

It is entirely possible that Elton John could protect his son from the spotlight.

    If he wanted to.

But I suspect that he is not going to allow an accessory like a child go to waste.

Elton John is a disgusting fame-whoring pig.

Stop sticking that child in front of camera lenses and stop talking about him if you want to protect him.

  5. Strange and maybe a bit selfish for a man in his mid 60s to have a child through surrogacy.

  6. I suspect the kid will get hassled more for having a parent who is old enough to be his great-granddad.

  7. they talked about how not having a child was a waste of his talent being potentially passed on to the next generation.... no comments needed here...

one thing Elton does not get is that children do not learn by what we tell them, they learn by what we do, how we act... I believe the child will find out first how his father is a bully and disrespectful of women (the two last Madonna runs are an indication of that) and how money trumps integrity (the Rush situation)... perhaps there is no integrity at all...

and really, anyone with money should adopt an already living child, and not make a new one to satisfy their ego....

that child will have a difficult life because those two parents are not nice people.... I see a future entitled bully....

  8. I am sure Elton will teach his son that homophobia or racism are only acceptable if you are getting paid for them.

Therefore appearing in a series of concerts in Apartheid era South Africa or being the wedding singer for bigot Rush Limbaugh is perfectly acceptable.

Elton John is a gross human being.

Any why did he think it was wise to wait until he was 65 to have a child (especially with his previous problems with addiction)?

Oh silly me - I forgot that this child is this season's must-have accessory. It gets Elton a lot more press if he can include the baby pictures.

  9. "It's natural for him. He calls me 'Daddy' and David 'Papa'."

    More like 'Gramps' and 'Daddy'.

  10. Elton John depresses me. From his comment wondering why we need gay marriage a few years back to this totally out of touch comment about his pampered son, he just doesn't seem to get it. In the long run, legalized gay marriage will help bring our relationships into the mainstream which will reduce teasing directed at the children of these relationships. I think he just likes to whine and be the victim while at the same time singing at and celebrating Rush Limbaugh's wedding. .

  11. Elton's AIDS Foundation, and his music from the 70s, are about the only things keeping me having any respect for this guy now. (His antiquated "Uncle Tom" views on gay marriage, his selling out to make corny Disney movies and performing for assholes like Rush Limbaugh, his stunt with Eminem, paying for porn stars to be in his entourage, his nasty, sexist and bitter feud with Madonna...)

On top of this, he is worried that his son is not going to have a normal life because of his fame, so he makes Gaga his godmother? Oh, yah, because SHE's going to provide him with a normal life. I'm not saying this to be mean about her, but even if she would be a great mom, and she could be, she's hardly an average person. Her fame is even bigger than his... it's sort of like going from the frying pan to the fire. He has his head so far up his ass he doesn't even make sense any more. It does make me worried for this little boy.

  12. Well, comments par for the course. Any gay male who has achieved anything in life--even one who has "outed" himself unlike most other successful gay people--which activists are always holding up as the Holy Grail of gayness--and even one who has contributed millions to AIDS charities and other gay causes........any gay male like that is routinely hated on and despised.......

......while bitchy, self-involved, totally unprincipled "divas"--straight women who have done absolutely nothing for the gay community (Madonna, Lady Gaga, Cher) are held up as "icons" and worshipped as though they were deities.

Sometimes I think gay men really are emotionally disturbed people who are in desperate need of mass therapy.

  13. Contrary to belief,EJ isn't broke, has plenty of $. His kid will have a a very privileged childhood and up-bringing. His greatest danger is homophobia, it's being too spoiled, too out of touch with the real world.

  14. CORRECTION:

    That should read ISN'T homophobia

  15. I am sure with all the Christian love his child should have a wonderful life. Correction, that should read with all the Christian hate the Christians and the children will all suffer and have a miserable life, like they are having now.
