Tony Perkins Again Blames SPLC For FRC Shooting On Fox News: VIDEO

OReillyCorkins

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins has again claimed that Southern Poverty Law Center and related groups played a role in Floyd Corkins' allegedly shooting a security guard at FRC's base in DC earlier this week.

"Now, Bill, let me say: the gunman, Floyd Corkins, pulled the trigger yesterday. He is responsible for shooting my colleague and my friend. But, let me say, I believe that the Southern Poverty Law Center is responsible for creating the environment that led to this," Perkins said on Bill O'Reilly's Fox News show, which headlined the segment by wondering if the FRC shooting was politically motivated.

More from Perkins' argument against SPLC: "Because they disagree with our positions on marriage and certain religious issues, [they] have labeled us a ‘hate group’, and that gives license to lunatics like this to come in with a gun and shoot innocent people.”

Perkins was also asked about his group's association with Chick-fil-A, the conservative-run chicken franchise from which Corkins bought 15 sandwiches before heading to FRC's HQ. Perkins claims FRC and Chick-fil-A had the most frivolous of relationships, but hinted that he wouldn't mind getting more personal, especially if money is involved. "Chick-fil-A gave us $1,000 a few years ago. Far from being a big supporter of ours. We wouldn’t mind having their support but they haven’t been that way," he said. The conservative big-wig then brought the topic back to SPLC's list of hate groups. "In those reports, they say, ‘The Family Research Council, which is a hate group, a certified hate group from the Law Center.’ when you you marginalize people like that it gives license to people like this to take action.”

  1. Marginalized people. Hmmmm. FRC has never been one to marginalize anyone.

  2. What the F is this A-hole smoking?

The FRC, and groups like it, have marginalized LGBTQ individuals for decades and it has resulted any many assaults, deaths, etcetera.

They have earned the designation as a hate group.

  3. O'Reilly can be tied to Dr. Tiller's death, easier than the SPLC can be tied to the FRC shooting.

  4. FRC's response is to "shoot the messenger", pardon the expression. If they don't want to be labeled a hate group, then they need to tone down their anti-gay rhetoric and quit funding campaigns to deny gays basic civil rights.

  5. Hey, remember when Bill O'Reilly crusaded against Dr. George Tiller and called him a baby killer, and then he got shot and killed? Maybe he should tread lightly on this subject, or, just, you know, shut the hell up.

  6. To Faux Noise, BO, and Perkins/FRC, I offer this commentary on their commentary: bullsh*t, bullsh*t, bullsh*t.

  7. Most people ignore Tony Perkins as the wingnut he is at this stage, but I have a real problem with cable networks bringing him on air without an opposing view. FOX and CNN are the most guilty of this. Doing that gives off the impression his speech is legitimate, the things he says are just and that his beliefs are righteous.

  8. Byron,
Your comments about the FRC's rhetoric is not completely accurate. The SPLC did not designate the FRC as a hate group simply because of rhetoric. The designation as a hate group resulted from the countess lies the FRC has told throughout the years about the LGBT community.

  9. Funny how the hate group label bothers Tony. Really bothers him!! And it comes from a credible organization. Recall the shooter in the Sikh temple? The SPLC was brought in to that case immediately because they had been investigating the shooter for years! Truth hurts doesn't it Tony! Come into the modern world and reality and quit labeling the LGBT community as the willing army of the Prince of Darkness, etc., treat us like human beings and maybe you'll get the label removed.

  10. Being against homo/lesbian activities is comparable to drug junkyism. Since Blake mentions smoking, peope who do homo/lesbian activities are more likely to smoke so drugs are gay. Transexuals are worse than the homos and they should make it a crime to do sex changes.

But Tony Perkins did not blame the SPLC for the shooting, he just doesn't think that FRC should be marginalised as a hate group. Personally, I wouldn't care if I was labeled as a hate group because I oppose homo/lesbian sexual behaviors because it's good to be bigoted against gay/lesbian sexual behaviors just as it's good to be bigoted against crack smoking and again DRUGS ARE GAY. If it can be predicted an unborn baby would be homo/lesbian or worse a transexual, then go ahead and abort them. Abort the homos and transexuals.

  11. It's hysterical that Tony Perkins is calling the security guard "my colleague and my friend". You know he didn't know who the guy was until this happened.

    Posted by: Andy | Aug 17, 2012 9:35:27 AM

  12. Oh Snow, don't forget to add extremely ignorant, stupid, homosexually repressed, low IQ people to the list of babies that should be aborted.

And again, the FRC did not get labeled a hate group because they oppose gay people, it's due to the blatant lies they tell, genius.

    Posted by: Max | Aug 17, 2012 9:35:36 AM

  13. Well he should certainly know about marginalizing people. It is what FRC does best. Now that the shoe is on the other foot perhaps he would like to take back all the lies they have spread about gay people. That m ight get them off the SPLC hate group list. Which is what got them on it in the first place not the fact that we disagree with their politics.

  14. From Bryan Fischer of the AFA:

"SPLC claims it only lists organizations as 'hate groups' if they engage in the 'propagation of known falsehoods' about homosexuality. But the SPLC website itself lists numerous falsehoods about homosexuality. For instance, the SPLC says, without a single shred of proof, that homosexuals are born that way, that it is impossible to leave the gay lifestyle, and that homosexuals are not at elevated risks of depression, anxiety and substance abuse disorders.

"In other words, if propagating known falsehoods about homosexuality qualifies an organization, then SPLC belongs on its own list.

"We call on SPLC to explicitly and publicly condemn the motives of yesterday’s shooter, and to remove both FRC and AFA from its hate group list."

    My G-d, what chutzpah!

"without a single shred of proof"?? Do they have ANY evidence for their position? How about relying on SCIENTIFIC evidence since the 1960s and not just Biblical self-evident "truth", which, of course, cannot be challenged.

Others (such as Laura Harvey of Mission America) have explicitly said that traditional values cannot cause bullying, as they are actually the solution to the problem. It's always the other guy's fault.
    (deep sigh)

  15. What Francis said.

And I would write to Bill O's mail segment, saying that "if the SPLC created an environment that led to this, the FRC creates an environment that leads to over 1,000 anti-gay hate crimes, including murder, every year," but his editing team would probably slice and dice my comment to make me look like a moron, just like they did a few months ago.

They are bad, bad people - Bill, Tony, etc. They can never win a fair fight.

  16. Don't want to be labeled a hate group? Don't BE one. Maybe this will be Sandusky's cry in prison. "If only they hadn't called me a pedophile people wouldn't be kicking my ass daily in here. What bastards."

As for snowisfun....I have spoons with more intelligence. What an idiot.

  18. At this point, I consider it my duty as a gay man to register and own firearms to protect myself and my family.

The rhetoric is escalating, and we all know what THAT inevitably leads to.

If these religious fanatics and conservative extremists think that they can beat us up and take our kids, they are NOT going to do it without a fight.

Yeah, we have a few crazy violent people on our side - BUT they pale in comparison in numbers to what THEY have on their side.

    Protect yourselves.

When I see sucha quote from the likes of Bryan Fischer, it's obvious even before ai do any research that he's just making cr@p up. I'm sure that the SPLC has never put out a press release saying that it's "impossible to leave the gay lifestyle.".

Anyone who makes it a havit to fact-check can clearly see who is telling the truth. Here is a link to the SPLC's page on homosexuality, which is very different than what Bryan Fischer pretends (Oh, and of course their reasons for the designation of FRC as a hate group, found elsewhere on the site, of course has NO RESEMBLANCE whatsoever to the reasons that Fischer and Perkins falsely pretend the SPLC has given):

  22. Max, MichaelandFred, thanks for your thoughts. As I wrote, homo&lesbian sexual behaviors is comparable to drug junkyism. Even if orientation doesn't change, it's best for homos & lesbians to quit gay/lesbian sexual activities & go celibate. Transexuals are worse than homos & you know how I've said that they must make it a crime to do sex change mutilations.

If homos&lesbians are aborted, then homo/lesbian sexual behaviors disappear. If transexuals are aborted before birth, then sex changes will disappear. They must cure GID, not surgically mutilate. BTW, I'm not Judeo-Christian but I agree with FRC. I don't care if I get called a bigot. Black lesbian Pam Spaulding is a Black Crack lesbian as Pam Spaulding is crack junky. Anyhow, drugs are gay-that is fact just as Black crack lesbian Pam Spaulding does smelly farts & shits-Pam Spaulding farts & shits just like every1 else does.

  23. People generally do not attack hate groups. When was the last time someone tried to shoot the KKK?

    SLPC has done nothing wrong.

Bill, on the other hand, by calling a doctor a killer, has much to explain.

Now that FRC has gone down this road of blaming others for creating some sort of atmosphere, I expect them to be held to account for creating an even worse atmosphere against LGBT people, resulting in actual deaths.

  25. I hope TR reports on this Monday, but here's a heads-up:

"Liberty Institute and the Family Research Council are releasing a new report called 'The Survey of Religious Hostility in America' on Monday."

They are complaining about 600 or so incidents over the past 10 years. Let's compare that to the number of gay-bashings just this year... let alone over a decade.
