  1. If rights come from god then when religious people take them away, in the name of god, there are only taking back what they think is god's. It is dangerous. Similarly, if rights come from government, then government can never violate rights.

    This country was NOT founded on the idea that government creates rights, only that government is meant to protect rights. As Jefferson wrote, "to secure these rights, governments are instituted amongst men." Rights precede government and are superior to it. That is precisely why government should not be allowed to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples.
