Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy Still Flaunting Anti-Gay Politics

DanCathyTweetChick-fil-A executives this week promised to stop supporting and donating money to political causes, particularly homophobic organizations that work to restrict people's rights. Apparently CEO Dan Cathy didn't get the memo.

The Advocate reports that Cathy on Tuesday tweeted a picture in support of the 2012 WinShape Ride for the Family, a ride aimed at fighting same-sex marriage.

That long ride is a fundraiser for an organization that helps lobby against marriage equality. Registration forms for the event ask that checks be sent, not to the WinShape Foundation that Chick-fil-A operates, but directly to the Marriage and Family Foundation at 5200 Buffington Road in Atlanta, Ga.

The forms say the ride fee is $3,500 for each individual or couple. But sponsorship packages posted online show that organizations could pledge $5,000 for "silver" status, $10,000 for "gold" or $15,000 and more to reach "platinum." The Chick-fil-A logo accompanies everything, and so does the WinShape name, but it's unclear whether the foundation continues to make donations.

The Marriage and Family Foundation was the top recipient of Chick-fil-A's estimated $5 million in anti-gay donations.

  1. I'm shocked....shocked, I tell ya, that C-f-A's lead clucker still supports anti-SSM forces. I suppose I won't be "eatin' mor chikin'" at C-f-A any time soon!

  2. LOVE the name. "Riding To Drive Our Own Children To Suicide" is more like it.

  3. I believe the reports of the death of their bigotry were greatly exaggerated

  4. I'm sure this is a calculated strategy to try to have his cake and eat it too. Boycott's on as far as I'm concerned.

  5. Because nothing says anti-gay more than a bunch of bears in leather and chaps.

  6. It's also a calculated strategy to keep the subject in the news, since the only political effect it can have - thankfully a small one - is to "energize" the Republican base.

  7. I thought that the moratorium had to do with the company not giving money, not individuals in the company. Given that this is on Cathy's personal twitter account and not the one for Chik-Fil-A, I think this doesn't apply.

  8. I guess the part below about WinShape only applies when/if they feel like - and that's not yet. So - still no more pickled filet for me.

In a letter addressed to Alderman Moreno and signed by Chick-fil-A’s Senior Director of Real Estate, it states, “The WinShape Foundations is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.” In meetings the company executives clarified that they will no longer give to anti-gay organizations, such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage.

  10. Did not I comment yesterday that the whole thing was a public relations scam
Foolish amateur gay rights organization Chicago fell for it

  11. @Peter.... Yes, it's Dan Cathy's personal twitter account. But, if you read the article, you will see that the event "WinShape Ride for the Family" has Chick-Fil-A's logo all over everything and the WinShape name all over it. WinShape is the Chick-Fil-A Foundation that they said would no longer support these types of groups. The only difference here is that they are directing the donation checks directly to the anti-gay hate group instead of running them through the WinShape Foundation. It just sounds like they are acting like a political "bundler" now by gathering up checks from other people and handing them over to the hate groups.

  12. no matter what the board of the company says to try to run damage control, as long as the ownership of the company remains the same the policies will be the same as they always have been...

    so no chik'n for me...

the company will be anti-gay until it is sold or (possibly)until another generation runs it..

  13. Locked and loaded against the gays. Sounds like an invitation to gun-violence against LGBT people to me. Shame on you Dan Cathy.

  14. If companies are people and people vote with dollars then the destination of the restaurant’s donations are open for public debate. It very well should be an issue as to where peoples’ hard-earned money goes after the chicken goes down their gullet. This issue has made our little feathered friend the modern martyr as Chick-fil-A laughs all the way to the bank. Watch the poultry be nailed to the cross and pierced by the spear of destiny at the hands of those devious cows on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/08/holy-rollin-poultry-on-cross-chick-fil.html

  16. CONTINUE the boycott until the CEO moron is pushed out. It's not costing us anything to avoid eating there so continue to avoid the place and ask your family, friends & co-workers to stop visiting too.

This boycott IS working. Franchisees are pissed and are putting pressure on the Board to remove the CEO. It's costing them money. Money talks. The franchisees are not supporting us, they are just worried about losing money but that's the thing that is going to help us get rid of the CEO.

CONTINUE the boycott. They are getting worse. Now they are even blatantly telling us lies.

  17. JUST BOYCOTTING THEM is not enough -- keep spreading the word that they use cheap PR tricks to pretend they have changed.
And who the hell is the group in Chicago that fell for the idea that was a rights victory?

  18. I wonder why he is such a hateful man?

You'd like to think that he would realize his obsession with gay people is a little odd....

    (Should he be joining GOProud?)

  19. You don't start a boycott that is doomed to failure. It just makes you look weak. Just look at those "million moms" who are failing miserably at their silly boycotts.

  20. You might make a better impression if you would out Mike "I'm not gay" Piazza instead. He's given plenty of money to the anti gay Catholic Church, and even opened for the Pope.
Piazza has a greater obligation, not to mention a lot more money than Dan Cathy. Don't let him enter the HOF in shame.
