Obama: 'Gov. Romney Seems to Have a Tendency to Shoot First and Aim Later' - VIDEO

60_obama

60 Minutes Steve Kroft asked President Obama about Mitt Romney's remarks on Libya.

Said Obama: "There's a broader lesson to be learned here. Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later and as president one of the things I've learned is you can't do that."

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

The Washington Post, in an editorial today, called Romney's remarks a "discredit to his campaign," explaining:

Mr. Romney’s first rhetorical assault came Tuesday night in response to a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which was also besieged by demonstrators Tuesday. His statement claimed that the administration’s first response was “to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.” In fact the embassy statement was issued before the protests began; referring to an ugly anti-Islam film that was the focus of demonstrators, it condemned “those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious belief of others.”

Mr. Romney did not then know the extent of the Benghazi incident — his statement referred only to “the death of an American consulate worker.” So it was stunning to see the GOP nominee renew his verbal offensive Wednesday morning, when the country was still absorbing the news of the first death in service of a U.S. ambassador since 1988, as well as the loss of three other Americans.

  1. the man has no shame, no soul and no compassion.

keep pandering to the scum of the country, Mittens. Won't help you get to that magical star-planet when you keel over.

  2. Is he going to claim tomorrow that he "mis-spoke"?

  3. As long as he talks like this, I'm in favor of letting Romney speak as much as he likes.

It's making Palin look almost palatable in comparison.

  4. Richie Rich has no knowledge of the world outside of his mansions. We already had one President not too recently that was a complete moron with regard to his world knowledge and we all know what happened there. A very costly and unnecessary war and the alienation of many countries who were traditionally our allies.

Add this to the fact that Mitt's summer travels abroad were a complete embarrasement, God help us if he wins the election. Shudders.

  5. Obama hasn't attended a security briefing since 09/05/2012, has Letterman and Beyonce lined up, and has refused to meet with the Prime Minister of Israel. He is off to Vegas tonight despite unrest in Cairo with enormous crowds gathering, and went to bed last night when the American Ambassador was reported missing for hours.

Keep spinning. He's out in November like Carter. Remember Carter? Sure you do. The media led us to believe before Reagan's landslide that he was ahead by miles.

  6. It would be legitimate for Romney to question US embassy security arrangements, since they seem to be lacking. He's overreaching.

  7. Keep spinning "Markus." Mittens is through.

  8. Every time Mittens opens his mouth, particularly on foreign policy, about which he and Ryan know collectively nothing, he proves himself more unpresidential. No wonder even the Republicans--including his running mate--are throwing their hands in the air and giving up on his candidacy.

  9. I'll bet the Republicans are beginning to wish that, instead of nominating Romney, they'd nominated that empty chair.

  10. Markus: where do you even get your information? Mark Levine, Hannity, Rush?

So the President is supposed to stop EVERYTHING when there is unrest in the world? If that were the case he would NEVER leave the Oval office. Was he supposed to stay up indefinitely until the Ambassador was found, what if it were days? Other Presidents rested when things were going on in the world. That is why they have a cheif of staff and hundreds of other people on staff. In the event something grave happens, guess what, they will wake him! Btw do you know what time he went to bed? Maybe he stayed up late dealing with this? But apparently you know because you were in the room. Umm, let's not get into the sleeping habits of President's because even good ole Ronnie liked to rest/nap. Give me a break already.

I don't expect you will respond to my questions as you like to come in, throw your accusations and insults at Obama and the Democrats and then leave. You never stick around to back up your claims. Just throw out your verbal diarrhea and move on to the next story.

  13. The Las Vegas odds have Obama at a heavy favorite over Romney. If Romney were allowed to gamble he'd place his own money on Obama. Anyone want to take the other side of that bet? Marcus? Anyone?

Which is probably why Romney donations are sliding too.

  18. @ Markus,

You have the chance to make a huge amount of money, assuming you know things that the rest of the world doesn't. Go to the Intrade prediction market and trade some contracts that bet that your boy, Romney, wins. The odds of Obama winning are about 64% and still climbing:

    http://www.intrade.com/v4/markets/contract/?contractId=743474

What? You're just a troll, and you think Obama is going to win, just like the rest of the world does? I was just trying to help you win lots of money.

  19. Tonight Nate Silver is predicting Obama will get 315 Electoral Votes on November 6th and has an 81% chance of victory. If the election were held today, Obama has 319 Electoral Votes and a 91% chance of winning. This is not figuring in the damage Romney has done to his prospects with today's disaster.

Obama has led Romney from day one. Romney's favorable ratings have been mired in the low to mid 40's forever. No one likes Willard. The GOP hopes to help Willard and maybe even win the election through voter suppression, that will lower Obama's vote total, but if Democrats turnout, the margins will be too great to allow the GOP to steal this election.

I predict Obama will collect 332 Electoral Votes. If Obama picks up NC, it'll be 347. I think the Democrats will hold and maybe even expand their Senate majority. I also think the Democrats will pick-up House seats, enough I hope, to give the gavel back to Nancy.

Any way, on the Morning of November 7th, I'll be laughing heartily at Markus and Jason. Not that I don't laugh at them already.

  21. Keep whistling past that graveyard, girls. The media had Carter beating Reagan by up to 40 points prior to their first debate. They were just as terrified then as today.

  22. ..and you'll be singing a different tune come 11/7. Do you honestly think this nation can't see thru Mittens? You underestimate the intelligence of America, my friend. Oh, and you are NOT a girlfriend of mine. Keep posing, poser. You are as fake as a $3 bill.

  23. It used to be that Obama couldn't get the time of day from most gay people on this site. It's nice to see the real enemy has been made clear. Now we can unite, at last, I pray.

  24. @ Markus,

Girls? So you think gay or bisexual men (including yourself) are girls? I think I understand your agenda now. "Whistling past the graveyard" means ignoring bad things that might happen. So you get on a gay-rights message board and try to convince readers that bad things (Romney) will happen to them. Just to make them feel BAAAAD. Is that what your parents tell you to do before they punch you in the mouth and throw your queer ass out of the house during the holiday season? Yes, I'll be mentioning that again until I get a straight answer (no pun).

  25. @ARTIE: son't hold your breath waiting for an answer from Markus. He never backs up his stupid claims.
