Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Hospitalized After Car Accident

Senator Harry Reid was transported to the hospital after his caravan was involved in a six-car crash, the AP reports:

ReidNevada Highway Patrol Office spokesman Jeremie Elliott says he doesn’t know Reid’s condition after the crash, which happened about 1:10 p.m. Friday on Interstate 15.

The freeway runs parallel to the Las Vegas Strip.

Elliott says six vehicles were involved in the apparent chain-reaction crash, including two Las Vegas police vehicles, two civilian vehicle and two Capitol Police vehicles.

CNN adds:

Reid's caravan of four vehicles was traveling northbound on Interstate 15 when it was invovled in a crash with another civilian vehicle, according to the highway patrol's public information officer Loy Hixson.

Reid was transferred to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas by one of his caravan vehicles. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to Hixson. Nobody else involved in the incident was transferred to the hospital.

  1. "The injuries did not appear to be life threatening,"

I pray so. That's one Mormon I do respect.

  6. Didn't his wife have a pretty serious car accident within the last couple of years?

  7. I hope he is ok. What I don't understand is why elected officials (other than the President) have to travel in these motorcades. Obviously, as shown by this accident, it is no guarantee of safety. Last week Paul Ryan arrived in Atlanta and they completely shut down the busiest freeway that runs through the heart of Atlanta at 5:30 PM on a weekday. Traffic was gridlocked for hours just so he could get to his event.

  10. After Reid claimed Romney did not pay income tax for 10 years... maybe the insider's of the Romney camp put a "hit"out on him? It would not surprise me. Reid is not just a Mormon... he's a Democrat and a thorn in Mitt's and the Republican Right Wing agenda to convert and subvert America's future.

  11. I've witnessed these endless motorcades [opps...sorry, 'Caravan'...much 'nicer' word] for a long time. POTUS I understand, although shutting down whole roadways is absolutely pushing it, even for him. VPOTUS? Now we're stretching it...security detail? Yes. Big 'Caravan'? No. Shut down highways? No. A 'Caravan' for the majority speaker? This is ridiculous. He can sit in traffic like the rest of us plebs, it would do these characters some good to appreciate how the average person lives.

And what's this B.S. with treating a former president like he was still The Man? Bill Clinton was in town, and for ll intents and purposes he was going around with a full secret service detail and 'Caravan' like he was still POTUS...including 'Lane Closures'! Seriously, WTF? Bill, GW, Old Man Bush, Jimmy...they can all get around the same way the average American does, and that includes sitting in traffic, waiting....and waiting...and following the same rules of the road as everyone else. As for their S.S. security details, I'll grant them that, but they and politicians like them should think about that the next time they try and pass laws that deny the average citizen the legal right to defend themselves and own firearms, while they travel everywhere with well armed 'Details'.

I hope the speaker and of course any of the plebs involved in the accident is OK.

  12. CNN reported that Sen Reid was released from the hospital and is in good condition. Thats great. He is an excellent democratic leader. Hopefully after this election he will still be Majority Leader. He is a Mormon you can love.
