Bill O'Reilly Equates Gays Wanting Marriage to Atheists Waging 'War on Christmas': VIDEO

Oreilly

Bill O'Reilly was angry that Father Jonathan Morris went on Fox & Friends and criticized the 'War on Christmas' meme that the right-wing pushes every year, offering O'Reilly the opportunity to mount a robust defense of one of his favorite topics.

O'Reilly also used same-sex marriage as an example of Christian traditions being taken away:

"If you guys don't start stepping up soon and more forcefully, you're going to lose your Christian traditions in this country. Let me give you one more example. Gay marriage. I got nothing against gay marriage. Not my issue. I want homosexual Americans to be happy and to pursue happiness. So I'm not going to be an anti-gay marriage warrior. But if you believe, and the other Christian religions, and there's a lot of em. That gay marriage is wrong and harmful, then you gotta get up there and make just as strong an argument, and you haven't. And that's why public opinion is turning against - in favor of gay marriage. You're losing these wars, father."

  1. You'd think Bill O'Reilly would have a heart attack if he was really so worked up about his positions. Unless it's just marketing.

I notice he doesn't write his own books. I wonder if he's read them?

  2. "I got nothing against gay marriage. I want homosexual Americans to be happy and to pursue happiness." - so Bill O'Reilly supports gay marriage?

  4. i want them to be happy as long as they know their place

  5. When will the Fox News types all worked up over the war on christmas realize that there is no war. Christians can display anything related to their religious holidays that they want to on their own personal property and the property of their churches. No one will try to stop them. It's just when they want to take over PUBLIC property for their personal religious uses that a problem arises.

  6. Because one should be allowed to force others to follow their religion, right? I think Bill needs to retake elementary civics again.

  7. Nobody wants to do the dirty work anymore. I guess this is their way to turn away from what they know in their hearts is wrong.

  8. Well, Bill, then I guess you've been insulted.

  9. Translation:

"If you guys don't start stepping up soon and more forcefully, you're going to lose your Christian traditions in this country."

Blowing the dog whistle telling Christians its time to start going after the gays again.

"Let me give you one more example. Gay marriage. I got nothing against gay marriage. Not my issue. I want homosexual Americans to be happy and to pursue happiness. So I'm not going to be an anti-gay marriage warrior. But.."

Damage control to make him look like he's not anti-gay while at the same time throwing gay people under the bus. He's not going to be the anti-gay marriage warrior but hes going to back up those who are.

".. if you believe, and the other Christian religions, and there's a lot of em."

and there's alot of them is code for tyranny of the majority. Another dog whistle.

"That gay marriage is wrong and harmful, then you gotta get up there and make just as strong an argument, and you haven't."

Dog whistle # 3. The people in Bills audience are the ones that believe that it is wrong and harmful and he is reinforcing their fears.

"And that's why public opinion is turning against - in favor of gay marriage. You're losing these wars, father."

Dog whistle #4. This is why O'Reilly is successful, he puts in sime truth with the lies. Most right wingers don't put in truths that they don't want to hear.

  10. "And that's why public opinion is turning against - in favor of gay marriage."

Ooh, he caught himself there, right before he accurately summarized what the anti-gay marriage movement stands for -- "public opinion is turning against homophobia, scapegoating the LGBT community, and being unabashedly intolerant of others' differences."

  11. Does Bill know that the Pilgrims would be disgusted with Christmas being represented by all these pagan symbols and rituals? The first century Christians right up to the 18th Century Christians knew nothing of Christmas trees, santa and all this other bullsh*t!! The Christmas of today is simply a very successful advertising campaign first started in the 19th Century to sell stuff to dupes. Christmas for most so-called Christians has become a orgy of materialism.

  12. The Puritans actually forbade the celebration of Christmas altogether

  13. Damn you Quest, I was going to say that! I find it interesting that the thumpers get all up in arms saying gays hate christmas, but have no problem with all the commercials for Rolex, Mercadies, Macy's, etc etc spouting all the " you'll only be happy this Christmas if you buy all this junk" routine. Most of my friends gay and str8 focus more on friends and family then "stuff".

  14. Ugh. O'Reilly is a such a POS.

The Religious/Political Right has had PLENTY of opportunities to give a rational basis for their opposition to same-sex marriage and they've failed miserably. Most notably at the Proposition 8 trial. The best they have to offer is "Well the BIBLE says..." and that doesn't cut it in a court of LAW.

That Mormon judge is another recent story upheld a discriminatory law, suggesting that if gays could marry then straights wouldn't, without a SINGLE piece of documentary evidence. And believe me, if there WERE documentary evidence from any of the MANY states and countries that allow same-sex marriage, the Right would have trumpeted it EVERYWHERE. It's all just fear-mongering and bullsh*t and more and more people, particularly young people, are beginning to see through it.

  15. Agreed QUEST. Christmas is been redefined by human greed and these Christians who want to blame everyone else, don't even realize it.

    Posted by: Gast | Dec 4, 2012 10:27:32 AM

  16. Bravo Quest.

First, there's only one "Christian religion", with numerous versions, varieties , sorts, kinds and permutations.

And the real, true, genuine and destructive attack comes from the merchandisers and devaluers of whatever spiritual gold may be among the dreck peddled by all those versions, varieties, etc.

  17. how lovely. this holiday season, let's remember that gays are ruining america. but i aint anti-gay, yo, i just pointing out that if y'all were more hateful then gays wouldn't be accepted.

    merry christmas, love bill o'reilly.

this year for Christmas Bill is asking Jesus for two big falafels to rub into the boobs of a coworker. true story.

if Fox News Headquarters, and everyone in it, got pipebombed to smithereens the country and the world would be in a better place.
think hiroshima, except with ZERO innocent victims.
the fox news viewer is the stupidest most uninformed and lied-to entity in america.

oh, and last i saw,the consumerist culture of greed and violence as exemplified by this country's EMBARRASSING black friday sales and riots is the leading killer of "Christmas"

    puke.

  20. @Quest: While your last sentence is fine, you're grossly oversimplifying in a way that would no doubt please O'Reilly and Faux News.

  23. O'Reilly said: (paraphrasing);
"all of the European countries have collapsed because of this"
Hmmmm, did CNN International, Sky News, ITN, or any others carry this story? Where was I when these countries "collapsed" ???
I'm a fairly informed person, how could I have missed this?
