Westboro Baptist Church Files Amicus Brief in SCOTUS Prop 8 Case; Will Join NOM at Rally in March

The Westboro Baptist Church has joined those filing amicus briefs in the Prop 8 case before the Supreme Court, Good As You reports, using verses from the Bible as its legal citations.

Check it out, AFTER THE JUMP...

Phelps-roperWrites the WBC, in conclusion:

Same-sex marriage will destroy this nation. If the leaders of this country treat what God has called abominable as something to be respected, revered, and blessed with the seal of approval of the government, that will cross a final line with God. The harm that will befall this nation, when the condign destructive wrath of God pours out on a nation that purposefully, in a calculating manner, institutionalizes marriage licenses for same-sex unions, is the ultimate harm to the health, welfare and safety of the people. The government is duty bound – in this Christian nation – to institute the standard of God on marriage, and pass and uphold laws that forbid same-sex marriage.

“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of theLORD your God.” What interest could be more compelling for the government than to seek the blessings of God on this nation, by obeying His commandments and following His standards?

And that rally and march that the National Organization for Marriage is planning on March 26? Westboro will be there beside them, of course.

  1. Ha! There you go Maggie..... NOM and Westboro, true partners in hate. Let America choose who side they want to be on. Thanks Fred!!

  2. Actually that's awesome! No one is more universally hated than WBC. Their presence will be a strong reminder of the kind of people that oppose equality and do our side WAY more good than harm.

  3. Their argument has a huge flaw--we ALREADY have same sex marriage in the US. That horse is already out of the barn!

    Too late WBC!!

  4. These people are a phenomenon. They think about Gay, ALL the time! I wonder of what their heads are full, in their daily lives. They must awaken and fall to sleep, thinking about Gay. ...And their dinner conversation, it must always be about The Gay. They must think and talk about Gay more than any of the rest of us...

  5. I'm all for NOM and the WBC to be there, arm-in-arm, showing the world what hateful bigots they are. Hopefully there will be lots of media there to film the event.

  6. I guessing that NOM invited the WBC to join their rally. What could be more fitting?

  7. When the entire country sees that NOM is linked up with WBC... you just can't get better negative PR than that.

    Perfect!

  8. So what? Like anyone with a remote intellect respects the views of WBC or NOM? Come on.

  9. Who would have guessed? The WBC is a cover for a pro-gay agenda? Step 1- Become the most hated organization in the United States. Step 2 - regularly take the anti-gay position to drive everyone else to the pro-gay side. Genius!!

  10. WBC is nuts - so the others who filed must be horrified. Or not.

  11. Those people are full of hate hate hate.

  12. This seems fishy. I mean, NOM is horrible, but also somewhat politically savvy-- would they really link up with WBC? Seems like suicide-- which is fine with me, just surprising...

  13. ...You nailed it Kile!..These people are literally OBSESSED with the Gay.They say nothing about other sins, prostitution, adultry, et al....THIS is all they think about. I have always thought that ol' man Phelps has some serious personal issues about "the Gay"...most likely he was abused by one on his cracker relatives in his native Mississippi..maybe he hates his own attraction to men, maybe he has been turned down more times that he would care to admit...Shirley, the Uber-Hag daughter, has her own issues...had a son out of wedlock...(Hey, that's a sin, huh?) and he is overly protected by her...and most likely he is closet case and surely damaged by having been birthed by this freak. Can you imagine anything worse than having to claim HER as your mother!...Holy crap!..these people are a huge jive mess. I think it is terrific that they are going to cause some stir among the NOM ranks. This will be fun to watch...party on, freaks!

  14. Thankfully for the rest of us, this nation *isn't* a "Christian Nation" and that such is specifically forbidden in the founding documents of our country -- something the WBC apparently 'forgot' about.

  15. but seriously, the WBC have be some kind of gay super-plot,right? can you think of any pro gay demonstration that could have anywhere near the impact that having the WBC show up to even further delegitimize NOM. MOM must be horrified at the prospect of marching side by side with the group the pickets babies funerals. nothing we could say or do could have the impact on the SCOTUS this group and THAT BRIEF, OMG. please let it be read out loud to the open court.

  16. I was reading and expecting maybe SOME empirical evidence on why SSM is so bad, but they entirely quote the bible and jewish scholars. Convincing indeed!

    Posted by: joe | Jan 30, 2013 10:09:44 AM

  17. Personally I'm thrilled the WBC will be there alongside NOM. NOM, the AFA, FOTF, and all the other anti-gay groups are EXACTLY like Westboro Baptist, with the same Biblical sources for their homophobia, but rather than be upfront about it they couch their hate as "Christian love" and pretend to be civilized about it- keep their hate rhetoric in check for the most part.

The hate and the basis for it are the same, the only difference is the toned-down media-savvy style. Westboro is just those groups with the mask ripped off to expose the ugly truth underneath, so it's great they'll be standing beside them so everyone can see that.

  19. Surely there must be something in the bible about how showing your bare legs is a mortal sin!

Shirley might be the only person on this planet who can make Brian Brown embarrassed about what he does.

  21. This is EXCELLENT news. Almost everybody considers WBC to be a bunch of whackjobs. I have confidence they will COMPLETELY REPULSE Kennedy and Roberts. Roberts will NOT want to be on the same side of history as Fred Phelps -- chief justices care about legacy.

What a dumb, counterproductive move for them to take. And great news for us! :)

  23. I got a great laugh reading that. I don't see how that would sway anyone that didn't already think as they do.
