FOX News Priest Claims Catholics are Oppressed by Gays: VIDEO

Father Gerald Murray joined Megyn Kelly and a FOX News panel earlier this week to whine about how gays are the real bigots for oppressing and victimizing Catholics:

"You can caricature Christian teaching and call it bigotry and that's reasonable speech on the left these days. This nonsense that we want to disadvantage blacks, when we say that homosexual activity is sinful, to call that equivalent to denying them their basic rights — no, we're telling them if you want to live a good life, you have to follow what Jesus said. Basically, this is an attack on our freedom to preach what we believe."

Added Murray:

"They used to want to debate the merits of gay marriage. Now, they simply want to assert that this is the only rational and Christian thing to do, and historic Christianity and the Catholic Church says absolutely not. There's no such thing as gay marriage. You can name something marriage. It's not that. But, instead of debating me on that, they want to say, 'You're a bigot. You're equal to a racist. You're equal to an anti-feminist' and all the rest, and I say, hold on, that's not the reality at all. We love everyone, including sinners of all types, but we don't tell the sinner, well, you'd like to have a legal recognition for your relationship, go ahead and have it. We don't do that."

  5. "If you want to live a good life, you have to follow what Jesus said" well Jesus never said a single word regarding the gays...I'm surprised a priest didn't know that

  6. oh, wait. i missed it. what he's actually saying is "how DARE you try to stop us from driving our own children to suicide!"

i forgot that that's the catholic version of birth control. have a gay kid, oppress them into living in the closet, and if they try to get Out of it hope that they tie their hopes to a noose.

    thanks, Vatican!

  7. Father Gerald conveniently chooses to ignore the fact that there are many gay and non-gay Catholics who believe in equality for all people, and that this is reflective of Christ's teachings, rather than what he is putting forth. Anybody who thinks that Catholicism is solely represented by people like him are mistaken.

  8. At worst he is a child rapist. At best he protects child rapists. So he doesn't have any moral authority.

  13. The Catholic Church doesn't recognize divorce at all. Their teaching is that anyone who gets divorced and remarried is committing adultery and living in sin. Yet they make no effort whatsoever to get divorce banned for all people, even though it's *much* more widespread than same-sex marriage and actually does do actual harm to children. So this is *not* about some concern they have for people to "live a good life." It's entirely about anti-gay bigotry.

  14. There was no Catholic Church either. They had a humble beginning and then grew greedy and fat, not to say arrogant. He knows better he should tone it down a little bit. It is not the good old days any more.

  15. For centuries the Roman Catholic Church have gotten away with saying you are the only virtuous ones. Now there is disagreement with you, you cry.

  16. @Simon

Well, the "Catholic Church" became the "Roman Catholic Church."

  18. Poor Father Murray must have flunked both theology and Church History. Next thing you know he'll be accusing Jesus with a birther dismissal since Jesus claimed his Father came from heaven. As pastor of "Holy Family Church" he might try to explain why in 2000 years the powers that be have not seen fit to canonize (viz. "sanctify") a single couple for being model Christians... not one! So much for the sanctity of marriage. The habit does not make the monk.

  23. "This nonsense that we want to disadvantage blacks, when we say that homosexual activity is sinful, to call that equivalent to denying them their basic rights — no, we're telling them if you want to live a good life, you have to follow what Jesus said."

In this conversation, what does being black have to do with being gay?

  24. "The left"? What is he, a Republican? "If you want to live a good life, you have to follow what Jesus said." Oh sorry, I missed the passage in the bible where Jesus says that "homosexual activity" is a sin. I thought he said "the greatest commandment is love", silly me.
