The Real Science Of Pain: Video

In this new clip, they take on the subject of pain asking questions like: What exactly is it? Can scientists really quantify pain? And of course the big question; what's more painful - giving birth or getting kicked where the sun don't shine?

  1. I think their conclusion is good - pain is subjective. Hypnosis for example, can help medicine-free painless birthing.

    However, for run-of-the-mill births, I think females have it worse. Getting kicked in the balls is super painful for 10 minutes, but labor can last up to 24 hours! That's like getting kicked in the balls every 10 minutes 316 times consecutively. Not fun.

    When you can't measure two things objectively, it's unscientific, and irrational, to just say "TIE!"

    The scientific answer is "I don't know".

  4. I agree, Adam. I've had three of those damned things, and every nurse I ever talked to said she'd rather give birth. Labor lasts at most a few days, my last stone took 8 months.
