GOP Nominates Anti-Gay Pastor E.W. Jackson for Lieutenant Governor in Virginia

Anti-gay Pastor E.W. Jackson joined Ken Cuccinelli and Attorney General nominee Mark Obenshain on the Virginia Republican ticket over the weekend.

JacksonJackson told the Washington Post that he has never been hateful about homosexuality:

“I think people always try to put that in the context of being hateful and it’s not,” he said. “It’s a particular worldview that every Christian for the most part who goes to church across this commonwealth shares: that marriage should be between one man and one woman. And anything else is an attempt to redefine an institution that really can’t be redefined. But I also like to let gay folks know that that same religious faith requires that you care about everybody, regardless. . . . It’s about religious principles, but never, ever about hatred or bigotry.”

Jackson has linked homosexuality and pedophilia: "I know their people say, well, it’s unfair to associate homosexuality with pedophilia or some of these other previsions. But I believe that there is a direction connection because what they really want is absolute sexual freedom."

Jackson has said gays are psychologically sick: "Their minds are perverted, they’re frankly very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally and they see everything through the lens of homosexuality. When they talk about love they’re not talking about love, they’re talking about homosexual sex. So they can’t see clearly."

He commented on the Democrats' embrace of marriage equality this way:

Later this month when Democrats make same-sex marriage part of their official Party Platform, the former practicing attorney says they will be spitting in the face of every Bible-believing Christian in America: “They will be saying, 'We don't care what you think, what you believe, or what the Bible or the God of the Bible says. We know better than God.'”

And he has said pro-gay rights liberals “have done more to kill black folks whom they claim so much to love than the Ku Klux Klan, lynching and slavery and Jim Crow ever did.”

  1. This guy is evil. Simple as that.

  2. Ok I actually have more to say, because this guy makes me furious (buzzfeed put together a list of his most homophobic comments).

It's really time to stop giving these haters a pass. We can draw a direct line between his vile rhetoric, and the hate-crime-spree that has swept through NYC, and which frankly, takes place every day across this country. Even the seemingly benign stuff spewed by conservatives (like how we just need to be "healed," and made "whole") gives cover to the likes of Elliot Morales. It makes us the "other" -- ones who are damaged and therefore somehow lesser than.

It's got to stop. Now. At every opportunity, we need to point out that these guys have blood on their hands. As does any media outlet which gives these guys a platform.

    It's really that simple.

  4. These reported comments of his are beyond ignorance....they indicate a visceral reaction to gays and to "homosexual sex".
So we can't love , and we can't think beyond sex.He is another one of the gay-sex obsessed homophobes ......and as often as not that turns out to have closet based paranoia.
Why doesn't he become a Catholic and have done with it.

  5. It boggles the mind how he can't remember the Bible being used to justify racism.

  6. Pastor Jackass is just one in a series of many who claim righteousness while spouting hatred and divisiveness. Which, of course, qualifies him to be a GOP candidate for public office.

  7. Typical blabber spoken from a true sexual fundamentalist, of which most come from the GOP.

  9. The "delusional slate" is running to again govern the state of Virginia. However, it seems the state's marketing slogan "Virginia is for lovers" applies only to those of a certain non-GLBT persuasion just like the edicts coming from the current GOPer administration.

  10. If you want to know why there are anti-gay hate crimes, look no further than this man. Every person in a place of (socio)political power that continues to promote and encourage anti-gay prejudices and discrimination is telling society that we're dangerous people who need to be stopped.. Stopped from what? Existing. Being legitimized.

they've all got blood on their hands.

  11. There lies a sickness within the church system where emotionally stunted and sick individuals are allowed to attempt to be divisive and separate gays from God. I truly think their behavior is repulsive, sick and destructive, certtainly not what true Christians are about.

  12. He's a perfect match for the Cooch (Cucinelli, current AG and gop nominee for governor): same pandering to the brain-dead, teabaggers and crypto-Nazis of Virginnie. Boycott this hopelessly ignorant, aggressively hateful state.

  13. It's quite telling that Pastor E.W. Jackson conflates pedophilia with "absolute sexual freedom". They better keep an eye on this one.

  15. i love the irony:

gay republicans lean right because they hate black people.

and black republicans like this guy lean right because they hate gay people.

they support the GOP because they both hate each other.

and, i'll just say it, they're all pathetic wimps who suck up to straight white moneyed men.

and i'd like to thank Samuel L. Jackson for his unflinching portrayal in Django Unchained, where he showed exactly what these doormats are.

  16. It’s a particular worldview that every Christian for the most part who goes to church across this commonwealth shares: that marriage should be between one man and one woman...LOL. The bible is full of plural marriages (Lemch among many others) so exactly where does he come up with this one-man-one-woman thing?

  17. It's a very Christian worldview to believe that if a woman is found to not be a virgin she she marries that she shall be executed.

Also, public prayer is clearly something Christ objects to.

Also, these right-wing Christofascists don't care.

  18. This man is surely certifiably insane. And the VA GOP loves him. He is one alongside the guys who've been attacking gay men in NYC. He has to be called out and exposed for his violence instigating rhetoric.

  19. What's your take on the documentary "Runaway Slave"? Is there no truth to the fact that Republicans started the slave freedom, civil rights, and black protectionist movements? I find it deplorable that there's so much division in politics, that there is no more "For the People" in elected officials beyond the "I know all that you need, so there's no need to think anything beyond the just vote for me mantra". If it's not partisan enough for you, it doesn't get a discussion. Ever read the book "How Do You Kill 11 Million People, Why the Truth Matters More than You Think"? Let's have a real discussion on the direction of America, the historical founding of America, and the wedge the political class really drives. There's never room for thoughtful discussion with those who disagree when your mind is so perverted by partisanship.

  20. I live here in VA am embarrassed by my states continuous support of hate and discrimination. I hope that we can get a viable candidate to oppose the extreme views that have been put forth by many of VA's elected officials and finally bring our State Politics up to an inclusive standard. This is a beautiful state with a lot of smart, talented people working towards making our Communities and our Country a better place to live for all of it's residents.

  21. Why do all these monsters have thyroid eyes...that sort of Hannibal Lechter no-blink stare like Michelle Bachman or Ann Coulter. It's not intensity...it's manaical.

  22. @mmt1: It's not partisanship to say that Pastor Jackson's views on gay rights and homosexuality are in synch with the Republican platform and the voting records of the vast majority of elected Republicans. It's simply fact. The Democratic party wouldn't let this loon near them.

He just serves them up with an extra dose of religious zealotry and paranoid craziness. He's a token black puppet for anti-gay crusaders who are more than happy to use him as a wedge tool. (BTW, today's Republican party bears no relationship to the Republican party of yore, so to make a link between them is ludicrous.) You can't have thoughtful discussions with people, like Pastor Jackson, whose minds are perverted by irrational animosity.

  23. “It’s a particular worldview that every Christian for the most part who goes to church across this commonwealth shares: that marriage should be between one man and one woman.

Lie #1. Most Christians in the commonwealth do not. Simply not true."I know their people say, well, it’s unfair to associate homosexuality with pedophilia or some of these other previsions. But I believe that there is a direction connection because what they really want is absolute sexual freedom."

Lie #2. He either knows this is a lie and says it or is ignorant of what homosexuality is. (I'm not sure which is worse, lying or ignorance...but people of his state should know he's one or the other.) But this is untrue and insulting. If someone equated the color of someone's skin to intelligence, this man would be outraged. Yet he has no problem equating someone's sexuality to unrelated criminal behavior, proving again he's not very smart.

"Their minds are perverted, they’re frankly very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally and they see everything through the lens of homosexuality. When they talk about love they’re not talking about love, they’re talking about homosexual sex. So they can’t see clearly."

Again, a lie or he's utterly one of the most ignorant people standing on a pulpit. Even simpletons know this isn't true. But again, this man is talking through some perverted pseudo-religiousity in psychologically desirous language -- he is ALL ABOUT SEX. He thinks about it more than most gay people. Which tells you everything about this pervert. It scares him because he must want it badly.

Bottom line: either ignorant or a liar. Nice pick GOP in Virgina.

  24. Well, my sperm source (aka "dad") happens to be white but other than that, they're cut from the same mold...and I mean down to the little toe. It's willful ignorance. I've watched it my whole life & recognize the symptoms. The worst part is the "willful"...they could have chosen enlightenment...but didn't.

  25. Because of the growth of the DC metro area, VA is becoming solidly Democratic. The GOP is still in 2008 mode where appealing to the religious base is seen as the key to a quick nomination. It's clear that doing so, however, will probably make the team unwinnable in Nov.
