Mariah turned uninteresting after she started hanging out with rappers and began pandering to the hip hop crowd. It’s a shame because she has some amazing talent. I did like Almost Home a lot, though.

Also, this hashtag thing has gone far enough.

  2. Another Flop says

What’s with this rent-a-rapper crap she does on every single? Can she release a single by herself anymore? And why does she keep doing this bland, dated R&B? Her 90’s stuff was so much better.

i really like this. very good timing with the sunnier season upon us. though, it’s certainly more of miguel’s song than mariah’s. which isn’t bad, necessarily.

Why is it everytime a black male singer is mentioned on this board, he’s called a “rapper.” Ummmm… Miguel is a singer. And if you listen to the track, he’s clearly singing. And there is NOTHING hip hop about this track, Jesus.

I think this is refreshing, loving the retro wall of sound production and its a complete departure from anything she’s done recently. Breezy and perfect for the summer.

Although Mariah, the hashtag has got to go.

  7. AriesMatt says

What parts of this song are rap and/or R&B? It’s a straight up pop song and a good one at that. It is odd that Miguel has the singing lead the first half of the song, but Mariah makes up for it on the back end. I like it.

It’s blatant racism that’s what it is whatwhat. They see a dark-skinned face on a album cover or single cover and he just has to be a rapper/sarcasm. Also just because someone is dark-skinned DOES NOT mean they are black. I’m so sick of everyone who isn’t obviously white or asian being labeled black. It treats black people as “others”. Anyway I like this song, it’s definitely different from of her older stuff but that’s not always a bad thing.

  9. Andy says

Other than her first CD, I basically can’t stand Mariah Carey. I think she pretty much single-handedly destroyed R&B music with her horrific over-singing and constant, inappropriate vocal acrobatics.

Having said that, this song sounds nice to me. It’s basically an old-style pop song, with an actual melody, and well-sung by both vocalists. Even Mariah manages to show some restraint.

    Get A Grip,

What are you on? Derrick was saying that when they see a black person on the cover, they always say its a rapper. Are you on crack? Only his last sentence actually mentioned the song! LMFAO!

Madonna had the same problem on her Hard Candy album. People heard one or two songs on it that sounded “R & B” and knew Timbaland/Pharrell/Kanye were involved and they shunned it. It was a dance album, like most of her stuff, but people didn’t bother to give it a chance. Candy Shop, a horrible song, was the exception, but something, perhaps racism, perhaps something else, caused even longtime fans to shun her. I haven’t been able to listen to the whole song, but I don’t hear rap or any of the crap that Mariah did, truly, fill her songs with in the past. People should at least give it a chance.

I’m with the majority of the people on this feed who are quite frankly fed up with the need to classify people based on their looks alone. Oh the irony of the gay community!

  13. says

Miguel is not a rapper – he’s an R & B singer. He sounds like the love child of Prince and Marvin Gaye. Check out his video for “Adorn” and see for yourself what a true up and coming talent he is.

  14. luke says

It’s not bad, the music gives off some kind of early pop music, though i can see why some would say the music is bad.

it sounds like something you’d hear the archie’s or josie and the pussycats play

  15. James says

The song is OK, but I would have liked it a lot more without Miguel. Better than Triumphant and Almost Home, but nowhere near as good as her 90s work or even some of her 2000s stuff.

  16. Tom says

maybe they added the hashtag to avoid confusion with Christina Aguilera’s song “Beautiful”? but to honest, just adding a hashtag is weird…

  17. says

‘Triumphant’ aped a lot of her big first single releases of the 90s – giest rappers: check, simple rnb hook: check, but it just wasn’t a good song. Sadly, despite doing a 180 on this song it’s not much better.

More time in the studio and less time providing scenery on idol or the home shopping network please, MC.
