  2. The reason a string is being used to pull the trigger on the 3D printed gun is the very real possibility of the unit blowing up and taking a hand along with it should you actually pull the trigger. Also, they apparently have to reload after each shot.

    One thing they don't show is the accuracy. With a
    commercially purchased gun held in a mount like that, the bullets should all hit in nearly exactly the same spot. So, what does this one do?

    Plus minimum cost (used) for the 3D printer that made the gun is around $8,000 via some Internet bargain, and a professional machine takes some skill to use and maintain.

  3. ...just checked the original article - someone used a cheaper printer, but had to replace the firing pin frequently and it failed to fire more times than it fired. Apparently there was a firing pin retainer that they excluded but that was in the original design.

    They had to replace the firing pin after each successful shot, according to the article, so it is really a one-shot-before-maintenance gun, at least for this version.
