Pennsyvania Man Believes Family is Being Targeted in Hate Attacks Because His Daughter is Gay

The FBI has offered assistance to a Sarver, Pennsylvania family after they found a swastika burned into their lawn. John Namey, the family's father, says they are being targeted because his daughter is gay, WPXI reports:

Namey said this incident is not the first personal attack against his family. Namey showed Channel 11’s Vince Sims pictures taken a few days ago of his stepson’s truck, which was covered in pink paint and had a derogatory image super glued in coins on the hood in addition to two flat tires.

Namey said he thinks he knows why his family is being targeted.

"We have a 16-year-old daughter who is openly gay, and she has been targeted in school because of that," said Namey.

“Ignorant and uneducated” is how Namey described the people that are lashing out at his daughter.

"Grow up. Let people be who they are. Don't judge people based on race or sexual orientation. Everybody is different. Just let people live their lives and be happy," said Namey

Boeing 777 Crashes While Landing at SFO: VIDEO

An Asiana Boeing 777 has crash landed at San Francisco International Airport after its tail came off while landing, KTVU reports:

According to a witness, around 11:30 a.m. the plane was just about to land -- its landing gear had come down -- when the tail of the plane came off. After wobbling for a minute, the aircraft flipped upside down, coming to a stop on runway on it's back, according to witness Kathy Muhler. When it came to a halt, smoke was pouring from the aircraft. Fire crews responded minutes later, Muhler said.

Twitter user David Eun was on the plane, and tweeted the above photo: "I just crash landed at SFO. Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I'm ok. Surreal..."

But that nightmare turned into a miracle as hundreds of people managed to flee the shattered hulk of the jetliner, even as flames spread through the passenger cabin.

Two people were killed and 49 seriously hurt when Flight 214 crashed at 11:27 a.m. But the rest of the 307 passengers and crew members escaped either unscathed or with lesser injuries, Doug Yakel, an SFO spokesman, said at an evening news conference.

As night fell, emergency vehicles with their blinking lights still surrounded the burnt-out remains of the jetliner. Holes ringed by charred metal were ripped out of the plane's top, and the back of the plane was open to the elements where the aircraft's tail once was.

A visitor at SFO took a video of the plane shortly after the accident, AFTER THE JUMP...

Screen Shot 2013-07-05 at 4.30.19 PM

While it has no doubt been a difficult couple of weeks for anti-gay activists in light of the recent pro-equality SCOTUS decisions, many are still working hard to get their message of bigotry out to the masses. This week, progressive radio host David Pakman hosted American Family Association's Bryan Fischer to discuss Anthony Kennedy's vote, the dwindling anti-gay movement, and even The New Yorker's recent Bert and Ernie cover

Homophobic Dominican Cardinal Facing Pedophilia Accusations In His Diocese

Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez, a Catholic Cardinal from the Dominican Republic, is facing a great deal of controversy as of late. Cardinal de Jesus has recently come under fire for using a gay slur, "maricón" (which is generally translated to mean "faggot"), to refer to James "Wally" Brewster, Barack Obama's gay nominee for U.S. ambassador to the Caribbean nation.

Now, the Cardinal could potentially be facing even greater trouble, thanks to accusations of pedophilia taking place in his diocese, as well as evidence of a potential cover up.

Dominican Today has reported that the "Santiago Office of the Prosecutor on Wednesday announced it awaits the Immigration Agency to specify whether Catholic priest native of Poland, Wojciech (Alberto) Gil, accused of pedophilia  by several families, left the country with another identity." Gil managed to flee the country after the accusations began to draw attention to the small village of Janico. Two minors from the village have also left the country, although it has not yet been determined whether they did so in the company of the priest.

Cardinal de Jesús López Rodríguez's diocese announced that the priest has been placed on suspension, effective May 30. Although ASKARBENT has noted that said suspension was not reported until July 3. They were also quick to note the suspicious timing of certain events...

"Gosh, Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez! Got any ideas about how, as public outrage mushroomed, your priest could have left the country so stealthily, perhaps under an assumed name and maybe even with two embarrassingly talkative minors? Have you thought about asking around — maybe one of your other padres knows something! Maybe you do, but it slipped your mind... We're guessing that the civil authorities would be all ears should you decide to favor them with your distinguished input. Don't be shy, now; we know you can run your ecclesiastical mouth when you want to!"

SpaceX Grasshopper Rocket Makes Stunning New Leap, Landing: VIDEO

Over the past year, we've been keeping tabs on Elon Musk's SpaceX Grasshopper rocket, which can take off and land vertically. The craft has now made its most impressive (and visually stunning) leap yet.

Watch the rocket's latest test, AFTER THE JUMP...

On June 14, SpaceX's Grasshopper flew 325 m (1066 feet)--higher than Manhattan's Chrysler Building--before smoothly landing back on the pad. For the first time in this test, Grasshopper made use of its full navigation sensor suite with the F9-R closed loop control flight algorithms to accomplish a precision landing. Most rockets are equipped with sensors to determine position, but these sensors are generally not accurate enough to accomplish the type of precision landing necessary with Grasshopper.

Previous Grasshopper tests relied on the other rocket sensors but for this test, an additional, higher accuracy sensor was in the control loop. In other words, SpaceX was directly controlling the vehicle based on new sensor readings, adding a new level of accuracy in sensing the distance between Grasshopper and the ground, enabling a more precise landing.

Grasshopper is a 10-story Vertical Takeoff Vertical Landing (VTVL) vehicle designed to test the technologies needed to return a rocket back to Earth intact.

'Big Brother' Houseguests Fired After Using Racist, Homophobic Slurs: VIDEO

Screen Shot 2013-07-05 at 6.06.14 PMWhile Big Brother's summer season may have just kicked off, two houseguests are already facing serious real-world consequences for their comments in the house.

Aaryn Gries, a 22-year-old Texas college student and GinaMarie Zimmerman, a 32-year-old New York pageant coordinator have both been fired from their respective jobs outside of the game after a conversation between the two of them, laced with racist and homophobic slurs, found its way to the live-feed and YouTube. The Huffington Post reports:

Aaryn and GinaMarie first made fun of Helen, an Asian-American contestant. "Dude, shut up, go make some rice," Aaryn says. Later, GinaMarie adds, "Andy was like, 'I'm gonna punch her in the face,' and I was like, 'Maybe that'll make her eyes straight."

The conversation then turned to Howard and Candice, two African-American contestants. "Blacks stick together....They're like tokens...They're like black Barbie and Kens," someone on the tape says, before another voice says that Candice's 'blackness' was coming out.

They then worried aloud about Andy getting the MVP 'because everybody loves the queers."

In statements posted online, Zephyr Talent, the Texas modeling agency that reps Gries, and East Coast USA Pageant Inc announced the two organizations have severed ties with their respective employees.

More, including a video clip of some of the comments, AFTER THE JUMP...

Sadly, the hateful comments have not been isolated to just these two Houseguests. Many of the 16 member cast already have a long list of terrible things they've said in the house, ranging from casual use of the n-word to one contestant calling openly gay houseguest Andy a "fag" to his face. The offensive comments became so frequent in the house that producers were forced to make a rare announcement over the house PA system warning contestants not to use slurs against other housemates. CBS also issued a statement of their own saying "At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by several of the Houseguests on the live Internet feed to be offensive."

Unfortunately, the various comments and conversations were edited out of CBS' broadcast, leading gay former Big Brother contestant Ragan Fox (a personal favorite of mine) to post an open letter to the producers, urging them to air the comments so that viewers can see the "racism, ethnic discrimination, and homophobia that these people encounter in the house."
