CBS Airs Disclaimer Over Racist, Homophobic Statements from 'Big Brother' Houseguests: VIDEO

Bb15disclaimer

For the first time in 15 seasons, CBS aired a disclaimer before broadcast of Big Brother in response to outrage over racist, homophobic, and other prejudiced remarks by some of the houseguests.

JeremyLast night's episode featured one segment in which Amanda called out Aaryn for her racism, warning that Aaryn was going to be judged by America. The houseguests, of course, have no idea what repercussions their remarks are having in the real world.

A new clip from the live feeds shows BB15 houseguest Howie, who is black, leaving the backyard after Jeremy (right) calls himself "African" because he has flies landing on him while he is eating.

Watch both clips, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. I don't even watch this any more. It was somewhat interesting to me the first couple of years, but not anymore. More like Big Bother.

  2. What are their ratings? Have their ratings and advertising revenue gone up since their deliberately and carefully chosen 'racist' and 'homophobic' houseguest have been mouthing off and getting a lot of airtime? Is this some kind of joke? Scripted for publicity, ratings, and advertising revenue. And then claim it opened a 'dialog' about homophobia and racism, to make the 'progressives' happy.

  3. This is all so contrived - & all about marketing. The 'fuss' the press & bloggers are making is all calclated (by the Network)to generate higher viewership. It's not about political correctness at all.

Producers & directors will continue to push the envelope, but will run out of taboos in due course. More & more viewers will be turned off. Remember when a bleeped expletive or two on Jerry Springer caused a stir back in the day? Now there are so many bleeps on pretty much every TV show, you'd think you had tinnitis. Try watching The Maury Show & see if you can stand it for longer than three seconds. Well, when could anyone ever stand The Maury Show for longer than three seconds?

  4. CBS is playing word games. The contestants were chosen for their views. Stop being deceitful, CBS.

  5. But people keep watching. What does that says about the viewers?

  6. Nothing like lawyers figuring out how to separate a corporation from issues, but still profit from them. The new Red, White, White, White, and Blue.

  7. Aaryn apologized last night, hmmm no mention of that. Yes she is a "mean girl" but she's equally mean to everybody. Are some of her comments prejudiced and ignorant, yes. But racist/homophobic, no.

  8. CBS should halt the game and Julie should call out Aaryn, Spencer, and Howie and remove them from the game for their racist comments. And it should be done live, on-air. Then let these game players step out into the real world and see that their hate has caused them the loss of their jobs and the respect of America.

No one is denying them free speech. But we all are condemning their hate speech.

Aaryn's claim that she just says these things but doesn't really mean it is total bullish*t. No one believes her.

  9. Actually if you look at their pre-game interviews, so many of them talk about loving diversity and being excited about meeting different people -- even the ones who keep spouting racism. The criticize CBS and say they sought out racists is just nonsense. You guys are running your mouths without the facts to back it up.

I'm glad CBS is finally airing this stuff. It's happened in the past where contestants said some hateful things, but it never really made it to air. CBS seems to have wanted to always sweep this stuff under the rug, but this time they couldn't get away with it. But I'm glad. A lot of the viewers of these show are the exact kind of racists who don't realize they're being racists -- so it's good to have a mirror held up for them.

  10. James oh my god you're completely delusional and anyone who has seen this show and actually defends Aaryn is a piece of sh*t of the highest order. She has literally zero redeeming qualities, she'd be a terrible human being if she weren't such a vile bigot.

I'm still watching this season and rooting like hell for the select few contestants who are not morally repugnant pigs, I'm already so emotionally invested in the underdogs lol

  12. JMC, so you think by calling someone names and using fowl language is the way to prove your point? And then you have the audacity to call Aaryn a terrible human being. Pot meet Kettle.

  13. CBS tried to not address this issue, but when it became viral AND it influenced the storyline of why Aaryn is so disliked, they had to air it, otherwise things may not make sense. Has it boosted ratings? Yes, and I'm sure CBS is happy about that, but their initial response was to shy away from it and not be exploitative.

These people are not prompted to say what they do. Why would they want to appear as racists? They are young and stupid, but probably also believe to a small degree with what they've said. It's a shame that they are going to learn their lesson when they get out. Amanda hasn't always been PC, but her telling them off after trying to help Aryan, was absolutely true. Some will be viewed as racists for a long time.

Why would CBS pull people off the show, especially Howard? What has he done except be the voice of reason that has helped Candice deal with the racial attacks? So far, he's been one of the truly "good" individuals that is upfront with his struggling with his morals versus what is needed for the game. Yanking him makes no sense. This is a game. America has some influence on it and they've been successful in getting 2 players out of the game.

And btw, Spencer's comment about "Kermit the fag" to Andy was hilarious. The boy was dressed all in green. I'm not sure if other homophobic things have come out of Spencer's mouth, and I don't know the context of their relationship. Taken out of context, I was outraged at it, but once they showed what had taken place, it was funny. However, if Spencer had been picking on him and they aren't friendly, then yes, that is homophobic. But it's about context.

  14. Yes, cultural, demographic and even scientific information can be gleemed by observing scat. But if entertainment is your only reason for viewing this pile of dung, don't wonder why it often stinks.

  16. Slamming a reality show is something anyone can do without fear. But in truth, this season of Big Brother has been one of the most thought-provoking. For the first time in many years, the TV edit of the live feeds actually reflects some of the vile attitudes that happen in greater society, too. CBS used to pretend these kinds of things were never said. This year, America gets to see the ugliness and judge it. The fact most of this went down before the Zimmerman verdict just proves how timely it is for our society. Talking about these things is a huge step forward.

  17. Show needs to be cancelled. CBS is adding to and exploiting the problem instead of helping.

  18. WHAT DISCLAIMER? Watched the start of the show just to see the "promised" CBS disclaimer. It did NOT happen here, and one would guess at MANY other stations too! Instead they cut to an EXTRA glut of inane commercials that undoubtably earned them a SH*TLOAD OF EXTRA CASH, the true HEART of the network's "family of broadcasters"!

  19. I love Big Brother. I've watched every season except all of season 1. Whoever says this show is scripted has no idea what they are talking about. You get to see these people live 24 hours a day and most of the time they are just laying around. True that CBS does only air the highlights and they do change around the timeline of events because they already play for veto by Sunday so they already have a lot of the footage they need for the fights and arguments.

  20. if cbs is so offended why don't they bounce the offendersbecause these people help build ratings and ratings build money. cbs please can the false apologies and state the simply racists and homophobes create interest and interest creates ratings for s total waste of airtime

  21. Back the f*ck up CBS. I stopped watching Big Brother years ago since EVERY SINGLE SEASON they somehow managed to make all the straight people buff and beautiful but made sure the gay guy was totally queeny and unattractive.

Now, after playing up the stereotypes as much as possible, they're trying to act as if it wasn't their entire point to make this drama unfold?

    Posted by: Michael | Jul 15, 2013 5:52:00 PM

  22. excuse me, that should have read "straight white people"...

  23. James: Just stating the obvious, anyone with even a shred of moral fiber could plainly see Aaryn for what she is lol sorry not sorry

    Posted by: JMC | Jul 15, 2013 9:10:29 PM

  24. Have a double eviction on Thursday night and get rid of Aaryn and Jeremy.
