  1. re: creator of Sean hayes' show: only about gay people would this be said, not about any other minority or characteristic. it's exhausting and insulting

and there's no such thing as "post-gay" or "post-racial" for that matter

  2. 'That is the subject of why the defendant didn’t want to be seen with the victim. He didn’t want people to think he was gay.'"

    Post-orgasm remorse. Happens a lot.

  3. Gomez, I agree. The post-gay term is offensive.

  4. "post-gay" - what the hell is that? Sounds like code for "de-sexualized."

Watch "Husbands" on The CW Seed instead and laugh your ass off! Season 3 premieres August (15).

  5. ....a gay Jewish, white supremacist. I've heard it all now.

  6. Poor Sean, so early he was pre-gay, and so late now he's post-gay.

    Or could just be homophobic.

  7. RIP Mr. Rispoli, I'm glad your name will live forever.

  8. "Post-gay" is an awkward way of conveying his meaning, but I doubt that it's mean to be insulting. Being gay really isn't an issue in many places in the US, Canada, and Western Europe. I'm sure this guy is just living in a vacuum where at least half of his friends and coworkers are gay and the other half couldn't care less.

For the record, the Onion's Chick-Fil-A spoof is more than a year old.

  9. I agree that "post-gay" is awkward, offensive, and inappropriate. It's a similar construction to everything wrong about "straight-acting" and for all the same reasons.

It's offensive and inappropriate even when the person or the situation in question is, at first glance, indistinguishable from a situation involving a straight person, or in which it's not immediately apparent that the person isn't gay.

It just adds absurdity to the offensiveness to even consider using the term about anything involving Sean Hayes. It's impossible to imagine Sean Hayes doing anything in which his being gay isn't central and obvious - and pretending otherwise either claims that there's something wrong with being gay, or sucks all the joy and light out of a Sean Hayes performance, or both.

  10. That Chick-Fil-A Onion article was from a year ago.

  11. "Cooper also owns an estate in Quogue."
    LOL: Seriously? That's pertinent...?
    ah, "merka"

  12. "described as a gay, Jewish white supremacist"

Oh wow, is that someone from here?

    Posted by: Fenrox | Jul 29, 2013 9:49:41 AM

  13. Also, wow, Post-gay is in no way insulting or problematic. Every other disenfranchised people had this moment where the novelty of their disenfranchisement is trumped by who they are. Why would we be different? Also, you simply can't take umbrage with the fact that disenfranchisement is a novelty for the public, its like that for everyone, it's called society, flippantly saying that a whole aspect of society needs to be "fixed" is a useless argument. You need a plan and a standing.

  14. @Lymis: Sean Hayes has been involved in a lot of projects with no gay subplot, acting as Jerry Lewis, as Larry (the "stooge"), in The Cat In The Hat and in Promises, Promises, plus co-executive producing Hot In Cleveland and Grimm.

@Gomez: The equivalent of "post-gay" would not be "post-racial;" it would be "post-black" or "post-Jewish" or "post-female."
    I think it's a poorly-chosen word.
I can imagine a world that doesn't identify people as gay, straight or bi and whether someone's spouse is male or female is no more interesting or surprising than whether their spouse is blonde or brunette, tall or short. But it's hard to imagine the characters in this sit-com will actually portray such a nonchalant environment where there are no such issues.
