Anchorage Pastor Kicks Out Boy Scout Troop: 'No Homosexual Will Enter the Kingdom of God'

The Anchorage Baptist Temple in Anchorage, Alaska has kicked out Boy Scout Troop 1316 and Cub Scout Pack 316 over the organization's decision to allow gay youth, the Anchorage Daily News reports:

PrevoThe church's decision came now, months later, because "we were just hoping there would be enough repercussions that the Boy Scouts might reconsider, and they haven't," the church's chief pastor, Rev. Jerry Prevo, said Thursday.

Prevo said he wasn't worried about backlash. The Bible's message is plain, he said: "No homosexual will enter the Kingdom of God."

Rev. Tom Cobaugh, the Baptist Temple's education minister who serves as liaison with the Boy Scout troop, later clarified the decision:

"Troop 1316 and Pack 316 were ministries of the Anchorage Baptist Temple," Cobaugh wrote. "ABT has not changed its position because the Bible has not changed its position on sexuality (see Leviticus 18:22, I Corinthians 6:9). The BSA has changed. They caved on their position because of political pressure and the threat that it may affect their bottom line financially, through donations and/or their tax-exempt status."

  2. Make you your minds Xtians! If you support
Leviticus 18:22 then you must also support Leviticus 20:9-10, right? Children who curse their parents and adulterers must be STONED TO DEATH! What's that? The one about The Gays still applies but not the other two.
    Figures. Hypocrites!

  4. Proving yet again that Alaska is nothing more than a haven for misfits and malcontents. "Education" minister indeed, more like minister of brainwashing. Literalizing the bible and creating rigid responses to changing realities will kill what's left of christianity. Freddie Phelps would be proud.

  5. Apparently this congregation was fine with the Boy Scouts when they allowed Mormon, but not gay, members. So, according to these good "Christians," it is absolutely fine to reject God and worship Satan through the Mormon cult, but you can' be gay. That's a breakdown of the relative "badness" of sin I hadn't heard before.

  11. Anybody who bashes Alaska ^^ is just a bleating airbag. There are plenty of great people and the place isn't known as the Greatland for nothing.

This guy is evil incarnate. He is the moneychanger in the temple. He is the Pharisee. But the best part about this story is that the media framed the conversation by talking about the group Christians For Equality who are making change up here.

As much as an ass Jerry Prevo is, he is the architect of his own demise.

  13. AKChris,
Why does the government of Alaska have to pay people to live there?

  15. it's the best thing to happen to those scouts. why risk polluting their young minds with the bs being fed by that "church"?

they will find another sponsor, and will be better for it. all scouts would be better off away from these delusional hypocrites. our tax dollars subsidize this sh!t?

I wish the bible came in bigger sizes. I always hate patching together pages for birdcage liner.

  18. Like his spiritual leader, he probably looked out his window and got inspiration from Russia. He's also lining up to get the Mike Huckabee Gay Concentration Camps contract - "if you can beat them, you can freeze them".

This week's slogan: "Pray away the gay - or else!"
