Russian TV Official Dehumanizes Gays On Popular News Program: VIDEO

Deputy General Director of the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Dmitri Kisilev recently dehumanized gays on a popular, government-run television program broadcast by the state-owned network Rossiya 1.

His translated comments state, "I think that just imposing fines on gays for homosexual propaganda among teenagers is not enough. They should be banned from donating blood, sperm. And their hearts, in case of the automobile accident, should be buried in the ground or burned as unsuitable for the continuation of life."

The audience applauded after Kisilev's comments.

The New Civil Rights Movement adds that Vesti — the show where Kisilev delivered his comments — is "Rossiya 1′s top news show — which airs all across Russia every two hours," and that Kisilev has served as Deputy General Director of state broadcasting since 2008.

Regarding Rossiya 1, the BBC notes: "Russian TV is dominated by channels that are either run directly by the state or owned by companies with close links to the Kremlin. The government controls Channel One and Russia One - two of the three main federal channels… TV is the main news source for most Russians… Russia is a regular target for criticism and condemnation from media freedom watchdogs."

  1. Horrific comments. My God what our brothers and sisters in Russia must live through each day with statements like these coming down from the powers in charge!

  2. We need to get RT removed off cable systems. It might be a damned good idea.

  5. He looks like Dr. Evil. And nobody speaks out against it out of the fear to be hauled off to the gulag or dosed with polonium.

  6. I'm surprised that retread from the Third Reich didn't say "Jews" instead of "gays" due to a slip of the tongue!

You know, while it might not be feasible to move the Olympics from Sochi due to time constraints, it wouldn't be hard to set up on-line stores for all the trinkets, tee shirts, and other things people buy at such events, so none of the money spent on that goes to Russia.

  7. I'm so tired of hearing about canceling Sochi due to time constraints and the like. They should be cancelled due to the imminent danger to gays and lesbians in Russia. If the 1936 Olympics would have been canceled sure there would have been some money lost. But the Olympics would have continued four years later nonetheless and maybe a broader view of Nazi Germany would have been focused on correcting what was going so wrong. Currently this Russia thing is much smaller and should be nipped in the bud. Cancel the Olympics. Boycott Coke, McDonalds, P&G and all Olympics advertisers.

  9. 'Unsuitable for the continuation of life' and the assembly of lawmakers applauds.

Easily stamps 'LIE' to that official propaganda BS that 'it's about protecting the children'.

    Wake up world.

FYI Jews are the second most maligned group in Russia. The nightly blog posts are full of anti-gay and anti-semitic rants.

  12. His remarks about burning and burying the hearts of gay Russians is incredibly chilling. It seems like just when I become desensitized to the terrible and hateful things homophobes say they somehow come up with something new and especially sick to say. I'm scared to see what the inevitable upcoming homophobic laws are to be.

  15. This really, really needs to be shown to President Obama! I don't think he realizes the depth of hatred in Russia. It makes me sick. People are in danger...and we're 'playing games'.

  16. Obviously Nazi Germany is alive and well in Russia. Turn your back on this country without hesitation. There is no excuse for anyone in the free world to support Russia in any way, shape or form.

  18. As a teen, I found it hard just living in a small town in Canada. I can't even imagine the fear of being discovered or just being who I am, if I would of been born in Russia instead. It's as if they think that by not saying gay people exist or even by killing us (unsuitable for the continuation of life) that it would eliminate homosexuality from their country, forgetting that we are born from straight people.

  19. Spoken like someone with a secret rentboy he keeps for weekend fun times.

As far as boycott, personally not in favor of one. I would however like to see the IOC ban Russia from competing in their own games.

  20. This is the tip of the iceberg (and it is chilling) of the kind of media propaganda that's propping up their propaganda law. To those who say, well, the propaganda law isn't so bad if you read what it says, BS. This is the climate it is taking place in, a climate where LGBT hearts shall be buried in the ground or burned. This is what Putin and the Church have worked to achieve.

  21. Ok, I've read some further statements from the guy over at and he says he was talking about the need for Russia to introduce laws banning gays from donating blood or organs, like the ones that exist in Western countries.

The guy is still a hideous homophobe, but this puts things in a different perspective. Apparently, Russia still allows the hearts of gays killed in accidents to live on in other people, while the majority of Western countries do not. Ironic, really.

    Posted by: borut | Aug 11, 2013 8:49:38 PM

  22. Yes: the context of this comment, which was much longer and aired about a year ago, was that the US also considers gay people diseased, because they don't use their blood or their organs.

It's one more reason to get rid of the FDA blood ban -- it's used by homophobes around the world to confirm that gay people are shunned even in the US.

  23. If your're closeted in Russia how do they know you are gay when you die?Or how do you tell a straight heart from a gay heart?

  24. speaking of jews, why aren't any jewish groups standing up and loudly denouncing the russian law? hello...anybody out there?

    Posted by: northalabama | Aug 11, 2013 9:01:49 PM

  25. GB with the exception of a very small handful of activists, everyone is closeted in Russia. Most gay men still marry in Russia. So yes, they would have no way of knowing.

That's what the laws and homophobia in general are supposed to do: keep people completely invisible (ostensibly so others won't be tempted to join them).
