Transgender Woman And YouTube Star Found Murdered: VIDEO

Domonique Newburn

Transgender woman and aspiring actress Domonique Newburn was found dead in her apartment in the Fontana area of San Bernadino County. Prior to the incident, Newburn was best known as one of the three main characters in the YouTube docu-reality series Hollywood Houseboys, which chronicled the lives of three queer black men, who each had aspirations to make it in the entertainment industry.

Newburn's ApartmentNewburn's body was found around 4:30 PM Tuesday afternoon, after neighbors had heard indications of some sort of domestic dispute and called the police. When officers finally arrived, Newburn's front door was open and she had already died from her injuries. The San Bernadino County Coroner told CBS 2 that the victim had "sustained trauma and was pronounced dead at 4:38 PM."

Prior to the incident, neighbors say that Newburn was "quiet" and kept mostly to herself. They were also unaware of her status as a transgender woman. “She was very quiet, very nice and you just would never have thought something like this would happen,” said neighbor Ronald Jackson. Witnesses told authorities that they saw a "bare chested" man leaving the scene of the crime shortly after the alleged incident took place. They then report seeing the suspect steal Newburn's car, a black, four-door 2004 Mercedes C240 sedan with the California license plate 7AAY925. The suspect is being described as a Black man, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with an average build.

  1. Bare chested man fleeing scene? Some get violent when fooled by gender. Who knows? Sad story.

  2. This is so awful.. she had so many dreams for the future. It's also sadly unsurprising, the rate at which transgender women of color are murdered is absolutely horrifying.

  4. @ME

You're going to pay for that reprehensible comment. You better believe it : what you throw out into the world - comes back.

  5. Only four comments? :(

Anyway, he didn't have to die like this. I'd never heard of that youtube show; I'm glad youtube is here as an outlet for shows like this which would never get on network tv in the US (and the show is about black men? it's not getting on cable, either).

Thoughts and prayers to his family.

  9. I grew up not far from Fontana, and lived near by for most of my life. It is a very rough area. What used to be a middle class/working town became poor almost overnight when Kaiser closed the steel mill. Yes, Kaiser, used to make steel.
While this may look like a hate crime, it could just as easily be something else. Robbery, a drug deal gone bad, a domestic issue. Or a random act of violence.

  10. @Zeta SHE identified as a trans woman and SHE deserves to be referred to as such. To use male pronouns to refer to someone who identified as a woman is pretty disrespectful, especially right after they are murdered, possibly for being trans.

  11. I am sending love and light to her family and friends. Nobody deserves to leave this life in this fashion.

  12. @ Estaban, why? because the victim is black?

@ Jesus, he's a dude. He liked to relax his hair and wear lipstick and dresses. That was no reason for him to die (or be told that he's really a woman for liking those things, but that's another conversation). No one deserves to be brutalized like that. I hope they find his killer.

  13. There are such evil people in this world who will kill a person just for being different and having the nerve to show it. It makes me sad.

  14. @ZETA: You (or decent people, anyway) identify transgender people by the pronoun that human being wishes to be identified by out of respect, in this case, respect for the dead. It honors how that person saw herself. That's quite different than being told "he" is "really a woman." Is anyone saying that? Don't think so. I'm not sure why some people have such a hard time with gender--ignorance or willful ignorance?

  16. Very, very sad.

This headline is misleading. It makes it sounds like two people were murdered. Why not "Transgender Youtube Star Found Murdered"?

  17. A person is dead and you're worried about pronouns?

  18. These homophobic persecutions and killings must cease!!! The perpetrator(s) must be held accountable and brought to justice!!!

  19. A HARMLESS young person, who was living their life the way anyone deserves to, was killed horribly.
My heart goes out to Domonique. She was like many beautiful transwomen we have lost to this senseless violence.
This makes me sick and sad this keeps happening.
