Mexican Lawmaker Asks Authorities to Ban Gay Weddings from Public Spaces

Rafael Mendoza, a lawmaker from the Mexican state of Colima, has asked authorities to ban gay weddings from public spaces to keep them from the eyes of children, the AP reports:

MendozaHe said Tuesday that society is not ready to watch gay weddings, saying the mothers didn't know what to tell their kids when the two men dressed in charro suits kissed.

"Parents are coming to me, to my house, to tell me they are against the city carrying out these weddings in public," Mendoza said. "I am not against these civil unions; the only thing is I don't want them in public."

A rival political group said it plans to file a human rights complaint this week charging Mendoza with discrimination. His own party, the Democratic Revolution Party, asked him to take back the comments, since the leftist party has championed gay marriages in Mexico.

Mendoza's request was in reaction to the marriage of an American man and a Mexican man in a city plaza. He is giving up his party leadership in the state congress over the remarks.

“He said Tuesday that society is not ready to watch gay weddings, saying the mothers didn’t know what to tell their kids when the two men dressed in charro suits kissed.”

OK, I know he meant charro, not Charo, but wouldn’t a double-Charo ceremony be the best drag wedding ever?

Mothers don’t know what to tell their kids?

Louis C.K. – “I dunno, it’s your sh###ty kid, you f###n’ tell ’em. Why is that anyone else’s problem? Two guys are in LOVE but they can’t get married because YOU don’t want to talk to your ugly kid for f###n’ five minutes?

@Jacques, you pulled the exact quote I was going to. Its PERFECT in EVERY situation where people run to the ‘what do I tell my kids’ defense.

Its pathetic. And when they say some part of society ‘isn’t ready’ my question is WHEN will it be? What has to happen to make it ready? The real answer is exactly what IS happening, things have to be done in the open, just like this is. Otherwise society will NEVER be ‘ready’.

Don’t let blacks vote: we’re not ready
Don’t let women vote: we’re not ready
Don’t let integrate races : we’re not ready
Don’t let races intermarry: we’re not ready
Don’t let gays have legal sex: we’re not ready
    Don’t sign ENDA: we’re….oops.

Because when children ask, it’s just too hard to explain that these two guys or two women love each other and are getting married?

So that’s just too complicated? geesh! Kids don’t ask much and they aren’t looking for complicated answers either.

Oh, those poor stupid Heterosexuals. My heart really goes out to them. However are they expected to have endless babies and explain the world to them? Didn’t they do their job by having babies in the first place; now they have to parent them, too? It’s just too much for them to bear. I guess the blood just runs out of their heads everytime they have sex or a baby. Why, God, did you make heterosexuals’ lives sooooo haaaaarddd?
