Stephen Fry Tells Author of Russian Ban on 'Gay Propaganda' He's Making Big Fool of Himself: VIDEO

4_fry

Earlier this week we posted a clip from Out There, Stephen Fry's docu-series about homophobia for BBC2, which featured Fry interviewing the founder of 'ex-gay' group NARTH. In this new clip, Fry confronts Vitaly Milonov, the author of St. Petersburg, Russia's ban on 'gay propaganda', and tells him how ridiculous he sounds.

Says Fry:

"You really ought to stop because you're making a great fool of yourself on camera. This is going to be shown around the world and if people hear you speaking like this they're going to think so little of Russia. They're going to think, 'Is this man actually allowed to use the street and the telephone, let alone be a politician?'"

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. I would love to see Stephen Fry talk to Brian Brown, Bachman, Tony Perkins, Scott Lively. What is going on in Russia is insane but there are just as many dangerous figures in this country.

  2. In these sorts of circumstances, it's more important to let the idiot speak his piece and draw out from him all the insane consequences of his position than it is to interrupt him and tell him that he's a fool.

The latter might make you feel better in the short term, but it's the former that has more influence on the moderate middle.

  3. He's clearly a very bitter and angry gay man who couldn't get laid because he looks like the Hunchback of Notre Dame so he decided to punish the entire gay community through the legal and justice system. He wouldn't be the first to do that and to use the church as a hiding place and combat trench. America has TONS of them in town halls, legislatures, congress, courts, Exodus, NARTH, the American Family Association, the Family Research Council...

  4. It's no easy task to have patience and wait for evolution to take it's course...but can anyone even imagine that this "deputy" and his ilk, the lies they perpetrate and the baseless fear mongering they spew will ever survive the next great wave of human evolution? Darwin's principles of evolution are on our side...it's just a little tedious waiting for them to die off.

  7. As a British Gay man can i say how proud we are of Stephen Fry. An absolute National treasure. Hero in fact. Like Fry, Rachel Maddow and many others i really believe we can fight more battles with class, wit, brains, eloquence and tenacity.

  8. The picture behind this man is that of the patriarch of the Orthodox Church in his Medieval dress. That's why his logic resembles that of the Medieval Church.

  9. My BF and I sat down and watched episode 2 last night and the show just keeps getting better. This is an amazing series. If you have access to it then by all means, watch.

  10. Repeat Post : last one was removed because of use of a 'bad' word.

I saw this on TV last night. It was wonderful.
Stephen Fry is a hero of our time. I agree with MIKE above , Fry and Maddow are vocal, fearless champions and we are extremely lucky to have them on our side.
I hope Stephen Fry reads this and knows how much we appreciate what he has done for our gay community..

One day our young gays will be able to come out and be themselves because of the battle led by these heroes.

( There Andy, happy now ? No bad words.
    PS : it's 2013 )

  11. Who cares? Let's add more to this mish mash. Roberts is the story today. Trump says he can do a lot for Russia. He's an f-ing mannequin who can read a teleprompter. His Baltimore class is showing Gays should be outraged! This is far worse than the chicken salesman.

  12. Stephen is simply pointing out the obvious, that this man is not either a great intellect nor a comprehensive politician.

The man is a sad little guy who probably chokes his chicken to pictures of guys on the internet and then swears off these attractions.

    Sad, ugly closet case.

  13. And yet Vitaly Milonov uses an iMac a computer made by a company whose CEO is a gay man.

  15. I'm sure the guy is a "useful idiot" for Putin, as most of the hand select members of parliament are in Russia.
