11-Year-Old Brought Gun to School, Planned to Shoot Classmate for Calling Friend 'Gay': VIDEO

A Vancouver, Washington mother's call to school administrators may have foiled her son's plan to kill a fellow classmate, KPTV reports:

The mother of an 11-year-old boy called school administrators to report her son may have taken kitchen knives to school, and that's what led police to find 400 rounds of ammunition and a gun in his possession, according to court documents released Thursday.

Vancouver police school resource officers detained the boy at Frontier Middle School on Wednesday at 9 a.m. after the mother's phone call. They said they found a .22 caliber handgun in his front pants pocket.

Detectives interviewed school administrators, and were told the boy said a voice in his head was telling him to kill a classmate for calling his friend gay, the court documents said.

In a later interview with police, the boy told detectives he planned to shoot his classmate in the arm, and then shoot himself in the head.

The boy is being held on charges of first-degree attempted assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon on school facilities.

  1. what will be the spin?

tony perkins: this is the result of making kids too politically correct. now they're shooting kids with biblical views that find homosexuality offensive (and choose to use it as a slur).

  4. does this mean that god is now making it totally clear he doesn't like anti-gay bullies and bigots? he's starting to speak directly to individuals.

  5. I think what it means is that the child may be becoming psychotic. Onset of puberty is one of the times the break occurs. This is a very sad story--one not to be politicized in the usual ways we discuss stores of guns and shootings. Please try to be sympathetic. It's terribly sad for all concerned.

  7. In the GOP/NRA utopian dream world, all our differences will be reconciled with gunplay.

  8. It's such a relief a mentally ill child was caught BEFORE going on a killing spree. I hope he gets the mental help he so desperately needs.

Unbelievable this kid's parents would keep a gun within reach of their disturbed child. If his mother thought her kid would bring knives to school she had to know something wasn't right with him.

  10. Perpetuating the poisonous message that something is wrong with being Gay has consequences.People are weak minded and kids are very impressionable.

  14. Man this kid has a strange brain. He planned to wing the "bad kid" and kill himself? Even though he wasn't the target of any bullying (I'm sure he was also bullied at some point)

Since he didn't shoot anyone and is still alive I have decided that I like this kid. I would like him studied to gain better insight to this kind of thing and it's becoming insanely rare for any of the perpetrators of such horrors to still be alive, rarer still to be stopped.

Everyone involved seriously deserves a medal, this town should come together and celebrate that they sidestepped a tragedy.
