Gavin 'Captain Stubing' MacLeod Says the 'Love Boat' Theme is About Coming to Jesus: VIDEO

Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain Stubing on the classic 70's and 80's TV show The Love Boat, tells the anti-gay American Family Association radio show 'Today's Issues' that the show's theme song is all about coming to Jesus.

LoveboatSaid MacLeod:

"'Love exciting and new, come aboard, he's expecting you'. If you listen to the lyrics it's all about Jesus. It's a whole new approach to that song. I do that whenever I get into a group of believers, because it gave me - I said, wow, the Lord didn't tell me about that until how many years we were off the air. And it's really about 'Come aboard, Jesus will take care of you. There's a new love waiting for you. A love that will never let you down'."

  3. What ever floats your boat.

Follow up question: He's still alive?

  4. Well, yeh, if you change the lyrics you can make any song fit your silly little fairytales.

"He'll be there for you (when the rain starts to pour)"

OMG! The Friends song is about Jesus! Hallelujah

  5. Gavin has been a wingnut for a very long time.I guess shepherd's calling wasn't in the cards at the time for poor little Julie who took a liking to white powder during the show.

  6. Gavin must have fallen overboard a few too many times. When God talks to you about the true meaning of your TV show, it's time for prescription medication.

  8. I think it's kinda sweet. As gay folks, haven't we learned to live and let live if it's not hurting anyone.

  12. He was on the Today show last week and yeah he's a big time fundie now. You know, to be the Son of God, Jesus can't hide for sh!t. Idiots keep finding him.

  17. Gavin has drunk the Kool-Ade and committed intellectual suicide. Too bad, he seemed a decent sort, but clearly he has no work and no friends, and has to consort with the AFA Jesus junkies.

  18. Oh Christ....

  19. @JOEBLOW he supports the AMA which VERY MUCH attempts to hurt us, so your comment is wrong. If you are unfamiliar with American Family Association then look it up and read what kind of stuff they are up to and you will probably change your mind afterward.

  20. Thanks for ruining Mary Tyler Moore for me.

  21. Odd. Seems he's changing the lyrics of a 40 year old song to support his political beliefs...

It's not "He's expecting you", it's "We're expecting you". And there's also a line that says "The Love Boat promises something for everyone." Sounds like one big ol' floating orgy to me!

    Come for Jesus!

  22. Um, Gavin? Is Charo supposedly an angel in this scenario? What about Julie? What about Isaac? (Well, he can pour the communion wine…)

  23. Is this awesome proof or the mental instability required for true religious fervor or what?

    Posted by: DrJWL | Nov 12, 2013 9:58:59 AM

  24. @Giles - I would not think Gavin McCleod was so sweet or harmless for supporting the American Family Association. I did a quick search for connections between Gavin McCleod and the AFA but didn't immediately see anything. I'm inclined to believe you, but I wouldn't mind seeing some documented connection.

    "We're expecting you...something for everyone"

Pffftttt. It's obviously about the Greek Pantheon.
