Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert Destroy Megyn Kelly for White Santa Remarks: VIDEO

Santa_stewart

FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly's assertion yesterday that Santa and Jesus are white were like a sack of toys coming down the chimney for Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, who noted that Kelly's statement about Santa is the official slogan of oppression:

"Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable, doesn't mean it has to change."

  1. It's never been clear if the Thomas Nast character was based on St. Nick or not, since there isn't a lot of similarity, but at some point the two merged, possibly in the 20's and then certainly by the 40's with all the new Christmas songs and movies from that period. Ironically, we get the merger between these two characters, but Christmas and New Years split to become two separate holidays where before they were the same holiday. This again was largely a nineteenth century development.

  3. The other thing that Megyn Kelly could have pointed out is that there are already all sorts of Santas. The individuals playing Santa Claus at events and in shopping malls tend to be drawn from the local area. Depending on where you live, there are black Santas, Hispanic Santas, Asian Santas, American Indian Santas, Asian Santas, Polynesian Santas, and, yes, white Santas!

  4. I'm more blown away by the White Jesus comment. Really Megyn?

  5. Both Father Christmas and Santa Claus are based on a real-life man--and, yes, he was white. St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor, was from a wealthy Greek family. He used his family wealth to secretly help those in need.

In his most famous act of charity, he came to the aid of a man ho had fallen on hard times. The man had three daughters and had no dowries for them. He was terrified that they would not be able to marry and might even be forced into prostitution in order to survive.

Over three successive nights, St. Nicholas dropped bags of gold down a chimney--in some versions, he threw them through a window--thus providing dowries for all three daughters. Therefore, even the tradition of Santa Claus bearing gifts down a chimney comes from the kindness of St. Nicholas.

  7. RONCHARLES: Not quite. St. Nick's day is Dec 6th, and that was a traditional day in Europe to give gifts to children. However, the Germanic holiday Yule was for the Solstice (and essentially New Years), and also featured a robed and bearded version of the God Odin. During the nineteenth century the two holidays essentially merged and kicked New Years a week later. The Christianizing of Yule into Christmas took centuries and replaced Odin with "Father Christmas" figures. As St. Nick's day and Christmas merged you get "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (roughly the period from the 6th to the 24th moving over time). In most of Europe this started in the 1840's. The icon personage of Santa Claus was created by Thomas Nast. Otherwise, you get a bunch of vaguely similar personages from European Tradition.

  8. This would be an awesome debate if either person was real.

  9. Jesus and Santa were both caucasian. Why is this a problem? There are many black men who sneak into your house at night. If you want a holiday for them, make one.

    Posted by: Rotundra | Dec 13, 2013 7:27:38 PM

  10. Kevin B - Whether these people existed or not, or existed as we know them, is irrelevant. They are part of European culture and they are historically caucasian.

    Posted by: Rotundra | Dec 13, 2013 7:29:12 PM

  11. RonCharles, the kindly looking black man in the video still above is a scientific reconstruction of the bones in the real St. Nicholas' tomb. Does that look like a white man to you?

Every early representation of the original St. Nick is also of a dark skinned man.

    http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/real-face/

has FIVE different historical representations, as well as the sixth, the facial reconstruction seen in the video still above. His nose may have been haved in the historical representations, but he is still a dark skinned man.

  12. Anon, the merger is credited to Coca Cola's advertising at the turn of the century. And yes, David, Megyn and her bleached hair should be feed to rabid fanged reindeer.

Seth, the white Jesus thing was definitely appalling. Has Fox made any additional statements about Kelly's idiocy?

  13. Do Jews consider themselves white? Is Jon Stewart seen as a white man? Jon is Jewish and he is white. Truth in what M. Kelly said. Jesus was Jewish but he probably had an olive skin tone.

  14. Well Lawrence O'DOnnell should be proud of himself. He and his little shltheads have successfully made you stupid. "White people" is not a race; caucasian is a race. Greeks are caucasian, Swedes are caucasian, no they aren't interchangeable. By the same token, you have a range of negroes who are all negroes, and mongoloids who are all mongoloids. This is why we use clinical terminology and not "white people" and "brown people". Of course, Lawrence O'Donnell wants to confuse the issue, because for whatever reason he wants to make the "white people" as small a group as possible. Swedes, Celts, Germans, Rus, Italians, Greeks, Turks, Hebrews, Persians, and most Egyptians, North Africans, and Indians are all caucasian.

Saint Nicholas may well have been portrayed as having dark skin. My roomie is from Sicily and is practically an Arab in skin tone. No, she isn't black. She's a white woman, more specifically a caucasian woman.

    Zeta, you are an ignoramus.

  15. CC what are you from Mars? Why do you ask what you surely know?

    Posted by: Enchantra | Dec 14, 2013 12:10:31 AM

  16. Santa is White. He's a Dutch/German/English character. This just in, so is James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, and yes Dr. Watson. Sorry Lucy Liu. Also White, Robin Hood, Maid Marian, King Arthur, and Walter from Breaking Bad.

Jesus is neither Black nor White, as a Jew from Nazareth, he probably looked like your average Jordanian or West Bank villager. Askenazi I.e. European Jews have significant Euro admixture including red hair and blue eyes.

But don't worry, Shaft, JJ from Good Times, and Fred Sanford are still Black. So is Blackula and Blade and ... oh heck I got nothing.

  19. Hmmm...I wonder if Stewart and pals ever ran video of president Obutthurt lying to the American people. I wonder if the perpetrators of this site ever posted video of president Obutthurt lying to the American people? I'm just wondering.

  20. Whiskeypace - Just because a people are darker skinned doesn't mean that they are somewhere between races. There are dark skinned people who are as removed or more removed from Africa (if you accept the Africa as sole cradle land theory) than Swedes.

The race baiters have successfully polluted the discussion and reduced it to "the color of my skin" when in reality the races were defined by factors other than skin color. And while the 19TH century scientists didn't have DNA to work with, they got it correct to an amazing degree using physical traits, geography, language, and culture. They knew, for example, that Australoids are not Negroes, and that American Indians were a fairly recent caucasian-mongoloid hybrid.

  21. I think Jon Stewart's main point is that FOX is supposedly a news channel and why are they wasting time talking about a dumb, non-existent issue?

    Posted by: Dave | Dec 14, 2013 5:47:33 PM

  22. First of all, if Jesus even really existed...(no real proof at all BTW) he would NOT have been white. It's doubtful that there were a lot of white Jews in the Middle-east 2000 years ago, anymore than there are lots of white people there now. If Jesus was anything he was of Middle-Eastern/African decent. Which means dark hair and olive to brown skin.

FOX news is so full of morons it really is unreal. How does this "news" station get by with their complete and utter lies and idiocy? Of course, the other network stations are just barely a step above FOX in actual news, class, intelligence...etc. It's no exaggeration that the US media has completely gone to crap!

  23. Hey, Justwondering and those here ripping on Jon and Stephen...you obviously never watch either show or you'd know that they don't hold back on the Democrats or President Obama or other news stations when they behave like idiots! Sure, both Jon and Stephen are liberal leaning, but I've always known them to call out an idiot regardless of their political views. And yes, they have both bashed Obama for his lies and stupid mistakes.
One can't say the same for anyone on the Right.

  24. Plenty of people with olive skin and dark hair are considered white, John. Argument fails.

  25. So many racists posting here. And yet, Fox News has declared racism to be vanquished in America.
