1. Derrick from Philly says

Agree with you, NOTSAFEFORWORK. Sasha is very brave as all Transgender folk are.

  2. Faux Family Outcome "Study" says

There you go again, posting things about which I have neither knowledge nor interest.

What white skirt-wearig “he-shes” do is of no concern to me! Brave, schmave! What’s brave is walking in Philly with pink-sequined, faux-leapoard-print hip-high suede boots, and a magenta velour track suit! Girl child ain’t safe with the fashionista police around! Ooooo, child!

  3. Gigi says

I think Thomas should be tried as a adult. Lighting someone’s clothing on fire is not a prank.

  4. Seb says

@Derrick: Can’t you read? Sasha isn’t transgender. Agender is different from transgender. Also, positive stereotyping is still bigoted. All trans people are not brave, any more than all Chinese people are good at math or all Black people are good at basketball.

  5. Kevin says

Ugh. I’m too disgusted to go back and count the amount of times that news reporter used male pronouns. Sasha identifies as agender and their father was quoted that they prefer gender neutral pronouns. How hard is it to respect someone’s identity? Also, this isn’t homophobia, per se, this more a form of transphobia.

  6. Seb says

@Little Kiwi: What a ridiculous comment. How do you have Sasha’s back? You are 3000 miles away. You aren’t involved in Sasha’s life. You aren’t sending any money. You aren’t doing anything, other than reading about the story on a blog. What a self-important ass you are.

  7. Derrick from Philly says

. @ “All trans people are not brave, any more than all Chinese people are good at math or all Black people are good at basketball.”

    Yes, they are, silly.

  8. Derrick from Philly says

. @ “All trans people are not brave, any more than all Chinese people are good at math or all Black people are good at basketball.”

    Yes, they are, silly.

  9. Derrick from Philly says

    Hey, SEB (or Rick)

I let you off too easy.

Whether or not Sasha is Transgender isn’t my point…really. Sasha is fighting the same battle concerning gender role expression as Transfolk and many Gay folk.

Also, I’ve NEVER met or seen a Transgender person who was not brave.

  10. Seb says

I don’t care what “your point” is. The important point is that Sasha identifies as agender, not transgender. If you call Sasha transgender, that is misgendering. That you would justify misgendering, then try to make it about you and “your point” says something about your disrespect for both agender and transgender people.

As for your other comment, you are admitting that you are a bigot. Just because the transfolk that you have met have been brave does not mean that every trans person in the world is brave. That is stereotyping in its purest form. It is horribly unfair to trans people. They are human beings, not comic book characters. They don’t have to live up to your fantasies and unrealistic standards.

What a horrible person you are. Please do us all a favor and stop posting about trans and agender people.

  11. Derrick from Philly says

LOL @ “What a horrible person you are.”

Yes, just horrible. When I look in the mirror I see Regina Giddens…in black face. Oh, what a b.tch I am.

  12. Thedrdonna says

@Seb, actually Sasha identifies as genderqueer and nonbinary as well. This places them solidly in the trans* umbrella, regardless of your own opinion. That is, of course, unless there’s an agender separatist movement nobody is aware of? I’ve never known or seen agender folks who didn’t feel as though they fit in with the larger trans* community.

  13. Rich says

@Kevin The only gender-neutral singular pronoun is “it”. I don’t know about you, but I would have thought it much more disrespectful to Sasha for the reporter to use that one.

  14. Seb says

Don’t know why you think you are an expert on agender people. Don’t know why you think that your characterizations of agender people are binding on them. Don’t know why you think you can redefine Sasha’s identity.

The most likely explanation is that you are an arrogant turd who cares more about “claiming” Sasha than about respecting identity.

There is no agender separatism because agender is by definition not transgender. Nor is it genderqueer. You don’t understand the terminology, yet you run your mouth off. See previous conclusion about your being a turd.

  15. Thedrdonna says

And yet you couldn’t be bothered to read my comment either, apparently, in your rush to describe how horrible I am. Sasha identifies as genderqueer, they’ve been quoted as saying such.

  16. FFS says

So glad Sasha is doing well.

Rick’s penis must be smaller than any of us ever imagined. You know, Rick, “hidden penis” is a medical condition that can be corrected surgically. No need to take you frustrations with your lack of wangage out on the trans* community.

  17. ian says

The entire episode is so emblematic of the harm bigotry inflicts on both the victim and the perpetrator. One kid is physically scarred for life and probably emotionally scarred as well; those burn scars will remind him what happened every day for life. The other kid may end up in prison, not exactly the best environment for a teen. He too will be permanently scarred by his attack on Sasha. everyone loses here.
