Russian Series 'Moonlight People' Covers Plight Of Gays In Russia: VIDEO

Midnight

Director Catherine Polyanskaya made a bold move and has begun filming the first Russian gay soap opera, "Moonlight People." (Russian language link) The first season is planned to be eight episodes long and the stories are inspired by real-life events for gays in Russia. Since it is unlikely that the series will be picked up in Russia as it would easily fall under the nation's ban on gay "propaganda," the trailer was released with English subtitles in hopes, according to Polyanskaya (Russian language link), that a Western studio will pick up the series for production.

  1. It's absolutely a story that must be told. I hope everyone gets to see this.

  2. Very interesting. These people, the Russian LGBT themselves, with no doubt some powerful influences from the West, are going to free themselves by producing a whole body of work in films, stories and books, along with every media outlet, to create a body of underground pain so compelling and authentic that the whole world will reel from the example that the Russian government is setting in the oppression and hounding of its gay people.

The whole story has the potential to be at least as thunderous as the body of work which has come down from the days of the Berlin Wall, or which is being created daily in the Israeli/Palentian conflict. However in the case of Russia vs Its Own there will be no credible controversy, it will be a story of unprincipled and ignorant assault that will ultimately embarrass Russian civilization itself.

  6. Mostly the Russians agree that it's (unfortunately) a realistic portrayal of life for Russian gays, especially in the provinces.

The director claims all the actors have no connection to the LGBT community... Because of course there are no gay actors. Well, at least no out actors. Or out anybody else.
