Port Authority Official: 'Evidence Exists' That Shows Chris Christie Knew About Bridge Closings

"Evidence exists" that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was not, despite his claims otherwise, oblivious to the retaliatory lane closures on the George Washington bridge last summer that have now become known as "BridgeGate", former Port Authority official David Wildstein claims in a letter released today by his lawyer.

The NYT reports:

In a letter released by his lawyer, the former official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.

Stay tuned...

  1. I think Christie is a jerk and hope he is indicted just so a public trial can occur... whether or not he is found guilty.

That said, Christie said he knew about the lane closures after they were closed. He just didn't know about it before hand. Big difference.

  4. "Define sex", "I can't hear you", "I am not a crook".....and I agree with @Steve Talbert. A public trial will put it on the books and stamp it on everyone's mind. The taint will stay with the pig forever.

  5. The letter from Wildstein indicates that Christie knew about the lane closures AS they occurred, not AFTER the fact.

It seems this scandal and Christie's other scandal, Sandygate (the withholding of Hurricane Sandy relief funds), keep rotating in prominence in the news. One of these scandals or both could ultimately cause him to resign. And I personally think he's damaged for good as a presidential contender. Only time will tell.

  7. Impeached? Resign? Are you sure you're remembering that this is New Jersey?

Sure, I'm kidding... but am I?

  9. If the allegations are proven true, well then, he's done (on both sides)! Delightful uglification for the GOP! Hope they put him in jail.

  12. There were other reasons that I didn't want him as a Vice Presidential running mate, but mainly because of his many documented vices.

  13. Stick an apple in his mouth and roast him on a spit.

The Romney campaign dug up enough Oppo on him to scuttle any hope that he would ever President. This is just Christmas coming early.

Shame he went and got his stomach garrotted for nothing.

  17. Somewhere behind I can see Hillary smiling... This will ruin CC's run for the nomination.

  18. ""Somewhere behind I can see Hillary smiling.""

Why? He would have been her E-Z pass win. Conservatives can't stand him and would have stayed home in droves. I know.

  19. You can't really believe the millions of Conservatives who stayed home for Romney were going to show up for another east coast pretend Conservative who hugged Obama and is a gun grabber and global warming alarmist? Oh don't believe he "was the best bet to beat Hillary". You can't be serious, of course the media would say that, sillys.

  20. The person who should be laughing is BARBARA BUONO, and she should go after those DEMOCRATS who abandoned her in her run for governor so they could hitch their wagon to this fat fool. After all isn't what this is about? One of the handful of elected Democrats who refused to back Christie was retaliated against. What about those who bowed down?

    Posted by: MIke | Feb 1, 2014 5:32:38 AM

  21. For Republicans, he's not conservative enough because he dropped the appeal of same-sex marriage, effectively legalizing it in N.J. effective almost immediately. The anti-tax, anti-spending Tea Party Republicans would rather waste $2 million on the appeal (as they're doing in Utah).
