Russian 'Burn Gays in Ovens' Actor Sued by Gay Rights Activist

Ivan Okhlobystin, the popular Russian actor, sci fi writer, and aspiring politician, who has made headlines recently because of his remarks that gays should be burned alive in furnaces and his call for Putin to criminalize gay sex, is being sued by a gay rights activist, RIA Novosti reports:

Nikolai Bayev said in a post on his Facebook account Wednesday that he did not expect his suit against Ivan Okhlobystin to succeed in Russia, but that he hopes to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
Bayev seeks 30,000 rubles ($850) in damages, his lawyer Andrey Zaytsev said.

Okhlobystin reacted in typically combative fashion on Twitter.

“The very existence of the lawsuit offends my religious sentiment,” Okhlobystin wrote.

  1. I'd like to start seeing lawsuits like this happen in the United States....libelous accusations and threats of death need to be called out in a court of law.

  2. He's calling for the murder of gays, and his religious sentiment if offended?

THIS is why civil rights ALWAYS always always must trump religious rights. Because the religious believe they can override any law. And they believe that if you "offend" them, they can kill you.

  4. And the interesting thing about religious beliefs is that people just make them up as they go along.

  5. "Aspiring politician" - We may have figured out who his sideshow is for.

Religion which is used as a cover by/for poor examples of humanity is causing the current rift in religion. Humanity will always trump religion in the end, just as it always has. Only by meshing the two and not placing blame on self created outside scapegoats can religion return to it's roots and survive.

  6. Okhlobystin is reportedly also a Russian Orthodox priest. So I'm sure this really does offend his religious sentiment--the sentiment that a "man of God" (nudge nudge wink wink) can do or say anything at all and get away with it. Accountability is only for little people.

  7. As I said before, the go for the final solution along the way. Just let it get set in youth minds. Then they will get to rule on it.

  12. Instead of a lawsuit, how about offering him a padded cell?

  13. “The very existence of the lawsuit offends my religious entitlement,” Okhlobystin wrote.

    Fixed that for you, Bysty.
