  4. Now that's what I imagine with I think of France and Europe and their open culture. Not the vehemently anti-gay marriage stuff that hit the news a while back... This act would never fly in America. Too prudish here. Very clever. Adorable!

  7. AriesMatt - It might not fly in the United States of America, but North America consists of a bit more than that.

That particular show was in France, true, but these gentleman hail from Canada, North America:

“Les Beaux Frères” are a dynamic and appealing duo. Their charisma and talent has been praised through North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Their training at the National Circus School in Montréal and the Circus School of Québec have elevated their performance technique to an international calibre, and has also contributed to their versatility in circus arts and the style and energy that they bring to the stage. That's why they can be found performing everywhere from the circus tent, the cabaret stage, festivals, street shows, or in contemporary circus companies. Notably, they have performed with Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, and the 7 doigts de la main.

  10. @Edude: thanks for the background, but you obviously knew what AriesMatt meant. No one hears "America" and wonders if it's meant to include Canada and Mexico.

And while that performance might not appear during halftime at the Superbowl, I could imagine seeing it on fairly mainstream TV, especially award, PBS, or late night shows---or even (in abbreviated form) as part of a feature on 60 Minutes (it doesn't show nudity or take a stance on homosexuality...indeed, at a couple points the two performers show good-natured "shock" when things get intimate). The problem is less the content than the lack of US shows showcasing the arts in any form.

  13. Paul R - Your point illustrates my point perfectly.

AriesMatt said: "Now that's what I imagine with [when] I think of France and Europe and their open culture."

I said: "That particular show was in France, true, but these gentleman hail from Canada, North America."

You said: "No one hears 'America' and wonders if it's meant to include Canada and Mexico."

Let me rephrase: "No one hears 'France and Europe' and wonders if it's meant to include Canada."

My point to AriesMatt was that there is "open culture" to be found a bit closer to home than France and Europe.

    Peace.
